Just a 5 minute walk from the Overgate and Wellgate shopping centres and 10 minutes from the RSS Discovery, it's a great location for both shopping and being a tourist in Dundee. Due to the central location, it doesn't have its own hotel car park but it's connected to level 3 of the Gellatly Street multi-storey by a footbridge from reception which offers parking at £8 for 24 hours. Our room was nice. Modern and clean, which is all you really need from a hotel room. I was slightly disappointed with the view - a brick wall and the footbridge to the car park - but I suppose not everyone can get the stunning view over the Tay. Breakfast was actually quite good, considering it's a buffet in a budget hotel. A full English is available, as well as a continental breakfast. The orange juice was a bit disappointing and watery though. We also ate in the restaurant for dinner. We waited over 45 minutes for our dinner to arrive and the restaurant was empty, but it was actually really nice. I opted for the cod and wedges which were pretty good, considering it's a hotel bar. If we're in Dundee again, I would definitely consider this hotel again. Great location and nice rooms.

It had a good sized bathroom with a well-powered shower. The work desk was excellent, with USB sockets for charging technology, plus a flat-screen TV and nice views over Dundee. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet consisted of some hot items (sausage, baked beans and scrambled eggs) plus continental items and a good variety of hot drinks. The Wi-Fi in the hotel was free, but a little hit and miss. I resorted to using 4G instead -- I'm with EE and there was a good signal throughout the hotel. Overall, for the price this was a bargain and I'd definitely stay here again!

I didn't know this was what Dundee needed, but it is…read more I came here with my sister-in-law for brunch and totally fell in love with it. It's a boutique hotel which I imagine is great to stay in. They also keep pretty busy serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to Dundonians. It's a beautiful example of the Scottish baronial style with a sympathetic update by the current owners. The ceilings inside are stunning, with roses all around the edges. I would love to wake up to that! The gardens are small but very attractive and quiet as the house is set back from the main road down a posh drive (with a groundsman raking the gravel at the end!). The outdoor seating looked lovely but too sunny for my ginger tinted sister-in-law. I had Eggs Benedict which was really tasty and I enjoyed every mouthful. It came in at a reasonable £5.50. My sister-in-law had a pain au chocolat with a white coffee, both of which she enjoyed. The lunch and dinner menus also looked very tempting. I liked the local suppliers map on the front. The dining room is decorated charmingly with floating teapots, an old set of scales for the tips and cute wallpaper with trees. The only thing I didn't love was 2 carefully distressed wooden boards with twee statements about hearts and home, I don't get why these are so popular right now! The service was very friendly and welcoming. Payment is at the door of the dining room, for brunch anyway. There's a drawing room with a bar across the way but sadly it was too early to sample from the Scottish gin menu. There's another rustic looking gin bar outside too which I'm sure would be lovely in the evening. In fact this would be the perfect place for a small wedding and I think I saw a small wedding bower outside, it was laid on the grass though. Another thing I liked was the vegetable vending machine outside with strawberries for £2 and a dozen eggs for £1.10. Potatoes and greens also spotted. I've never seen one of these before so I was intrigued. Anyway I loved it. I'll go back everytime I'm in Dundee hopefully.

It's about 40 minutes away from St. Andrews, but it's the closest Hilton and we were using points. The beautiful, old mansion that is featured on the website is an overly-flattering view of this hotel. That building is where the restaurant and bar are located, but the actual rooms are in an attached, 2-story stucco building that is lackluster at best. The gardens behind the hotel are very lovely on a nice day, however. The rooms themselves are fine. Nothing fancy but completely comfortable, and we weren't spending much time here. We had a king bed room that was in reality just two twins pushed together, which makes for very uncomfortable snuggling as you can feel the seam in your back. The room was small, but not the smallest I've experienced in Europe. BYO shampoo and conditioner--the stuff offered by the hotel is not good. One big complaint is that this sits adjacent to a major road, and you can hear cars on the highway at all hours of the day and night. The bar area is nice for a drink after a long day. The breakfast buffet is ample but not very tasty--low brow execution of Scottish favorites like haggis, blood pudding, eggs (very clearly powdered eggs!), beans and potato scones. The one way they over-deliver is the staff. Everyone was incredibly nice and accomodating. I wouldn't rush to stay here again, but it wasn't terrible.

The room was hot, there was zero ventilation and no way to open…read morethe window as it opened onto a kitchen exit of some kind so people could have come right in. The room was not maintained well and the bed sheets were dirty - not people dirty, but it looked like someone dropped a pen in the wash. Best part though was the shower - good, strong hot water. Too bad the bathroom fan was on its last legs and couldn't take the steam away. If it were only the room, I would actually come back here. It was all tolerable. However, the restaurant service was awful. It was like a scene out of Fawlty Towers. I witnessed the maître d yelling at a customer who had misunderstood the waiter. And when one of our tour members called him on it, another wait staff joined in to tell her off. To say there was any semblance of customer service on the two meals we had here would be a stretch. The faux maze outside the restaurant could only be used as an excuse to get out of the place fast so you didn't have to tolerate the staff attitude. For this reason, we have crossed this off our "go back to" list for sure.
