missing nuts

Shoddy work. I'm never coming back here again. I never write bad reviews but I feel compelled to in this case because its's been a real nightmare. I ran over a steel plate the city uses to temporarily cover road work. My trans started leaking a small amount but it drives fine, no issues [Lexus GS350]. I took it Russ Transmission and asked them to fix the leak [1st mistake]. They call me later that day and say they took apart my entire transmission and I needed to completely rebuild it for $4400. If I don't want to do the rebuild they will charge me $1100 to put it back together so I can go elsewhere to fix it. I decided to move forward with the repair because I needed my car back [2nd mistake]. After the repair the car drives the same as it did before. I don't notice any difference. A few weeks later I look under my car and notice 2 large bolts under my transmission missing their nuts [see pics]. I take the car back to Russ' and they install the missing nuts. Pretty concerning but I figure mistakes happen sometimes. $17k miles later my trans starts leaking again. I call the shop. They say this isn't covered by the rebuild warranty and I need to do a trans service for $300 which will replace the trans pan gasket and repair the leak. I do it [3rd mistake]. Less than 1 month later it starts leaking again. I take it back. they blame the leak on some 0-rings this time and 'fix it' [4th mistake]. Less than 1year later it starts leaking again. This time I decide to take it to Automotive Instincts in woodland hills. They find that the bolts on the trans pan are loose. They tighten them to spec and top off the fluid. NO MORE LEAK. Crazy. After this whole ordeal I started thinking back and now feel they tricked me into having my trans rebuilt for no reason. I probably just needed a new gasket and bolts tightened to spec, which would have been $300 not $4400. Pretty expensive lesson to learn. If you want your car fixed the first time do not go to Russ Transmission.

BEWARE - DO NOT GO HERE Vincent (owner) is a CROOK. I…read morebrought my car in because the electric power steering failed. It took him over two weeks to "diagnose" and attempt repairs. During that time, he replaced multiple parts that didn't fix the issue, then removed them, returned them to the manufacturer, and reinstalled the old ones (which has now caused the blind spot monitor sensor to fail). After more than two weeks without my vehicle, he finally told me the power steering was repaired. When I picked up my car, I was charged over $1,200. Before I left, he gave the usual speech about wanting customers to be satisfied and told me to bring the car back if anything was wrong. As soon as I turned the car on, warning lights started appearing. He told me they would reset themselves. Shortly after, I realized I could no longer control the windows from the driver's side, the blind spot monitoring sensor wasn't working, and several other issues had appeared, none of which existed before I brought the car in. I called him and returned the vehicle. He refused to take responsibility for the new problems that occurred while my car was in his possession. He claimed the car already had these errors, which is completely FALSE. He even said he has video footage to prove my windows didn't work (which his report from 2/14 clearly states otherwise)--unbelievable. Although he fixed one issue, several others were created in the process. Instead of addressing the damage, he accused me of "looking for someone to blame" and "trying to come up on him." He even told me I could sue him if I wanted to. All I want is for him to fix the other issues HE created. I requested a refund so I could take my vehicle to a qualified professional to have it properly repaired. He refused and insisted he had nothing to do with the additional problems. His own report reflects that my windows and blind spot monitor were working when the car was dropped off on 2/14. At that point, I knew he was a crook and was not going to fix any of the issues he created. Vincent, there is no need to respond by claiming I am lying or that my car arrived with all of these issues--it did NOT, and your own report reflects that. Based on other reviews here (which I truly wish I had seen before bringing my car in), this seems to be a pattern. Now my car is full of errors that will cost me a fortune to fix. I feel like a complete fool for taking my car here and dealing with this dishonest crook.

They listen to my complaints and…read moregave me a honest estimate to diagnose the issue and kept me informed on how the repairs on the car were going. They were able to repair my car in a timely manner and have been happy with the repairs. Their shop is really clean and they took care of my car and gave it back to me cleaner than I brought it to them. Their prices are very competitive and a good value.

I'm updating this review because the business response is misleading…read more I have a voicemail from Steve clearly stating that they did not want to get involved with my vehicle because another shop had already worked on it and he did not want me to possibly "get upset at them too." That was the exact reasoning given. This was not about warranty. It was not about saving me money. I was fully prepared to pay for an inspection or any necessary correction. I was simply asking for a professional second opinion. If a shop refuses work because they're concerned a customer might "get upset," that raises serious questions about confidence in their own work. A reputable shop stands behind its skills and diagnoses issues regardless of who previously touched the vehicle. Changing the explanation publicly after the fact does not reflect well. I stand by what I said. I had a very disappointing experience at Automotive Instincts in Northridge. I called and spoke with Steve about looking at my car after another shop had worked on it, and he basically told me they didn't want to touch it because another shop already did the work. His reasoning was that he didn't want me to "get upset at them too." That makes absolutely no sense. As a customer, I'm simply looking for a professional second opinion or proper correction if something wasn't done right. Refusing to even inspect the vehicle just because another shop previously worked on it feels unprofessional and dismissive. Cars get worked on by multiple shops all the time -- that's normal. Turning someone away out of fear of a bad review instead of standing behind your own skills says a lot. Very disappointing customer service. I expected more professionalism and confidence from a shop with such high ratings.
