I stopped by in June of 2024 to purchase an FN Reflex and was delayed. I was told RK Gun Barn would be in touch, the wait began. Having just bought (2) FN 509 Tactical's, less than 2 weeks prior, I assumed they were slow. I decided to call-Day 42!!!! I was told I was denied, and wasn't allowed to purchase a firearm. When asked why I haven't received a call, crickets! Early in June of 2025, my wife had swung by after placing an order at RK Online, she was told she could NOT purchase a firearm at RK, they would refund the money, and gave no reason. I called RK and asked for an NTN number per the FBI, which should have been given to me over a year ago and within 48 hours of denial. I needed a certificate from the FBI(which the FBI said would take MONTHS, but was less than 24 hours). Turns out, this Retired Army, Combat Veteran and military families rights were stripped due to RKs mishandling of paperwork-hence the FAST RESPONSE from the FBI! I was told to take the certificate to RK, along with a copy of an additional FBI letter stating "allowed to purchase, possess and carry". The same arrogant, self loathing douche, who has single handedly wrecked the Gun Barn, (as former employees at various gun stores, or anybody that has dealt with him), whom had been NOTHING but just short of grossly offensive to my wife and I, EVERY TIME we spoke...was on shift again. He REFUSED to let me purchase the firearm, after having shown a certificate "Mr --/is in FACT able to possess, purchase from RK" AND a FBI letterhead stating "Mr--/ is able to purchase, possess a firearm". He shouted and walked off and refused to help me again. Rural King, stated plainly I was NOT able to purchase, NOR my wife, despite it being their fault, all the while lacking in basic decency, as Mr Glasses thinks he's Federal, but just one problem, Feds are not assholes, underpaid clerks however, think differently. He's a retail clerk, with a major attitude problem, who botched paperwork, was given proof I am Retired Army(as my wife and I both used our Federal IDs)-stripped a family of their rights to defend themselves, as (to use his words-If you are denied you must remove all firearms from your home and you are not allowed to carry in the state)-hence why we listened and hindsight shows us (the FBI)-he was wrong! Being condescending, as someone who's retired Army hears they have no 2A rights is ridiculous! The error was 1000% his fault, only to force me to call after 42 days to hear I'm not just delayed, I'm denied, now he's setting on FBI docs for over 3 weeks, after storming off, and I STILL don't know where I stand? He still hasn't called back. The FBI gives clear instructions on what he needed to do, but he refused to do it, he refused to acknowledge the certificate stating that I am OK to purchase at Rural King, he refused to even acknowledge the FBI letter stating that I'm allowed to purchase possess and obtain firearms. News News flash, Nobody goes through this, you are called 1/2 days after a denial and told to challenge your NTN#, (if the FFL wasn't asleep during training)-if the challenge is won, you allow the individual to purchase and that is literally it. No priors, never been to jail, and CONFIRMED, RK is at fault, all while he's a condescending prick, who screwed my family for a year, made me do ALL the work, wouldn't call when I was denied, and refuses to honor the cert from the FBI and screamed and darted off with my paperwork, and STILL hasn't called back. I left and went to Overmountain Rifleman and bought three pistols after handing the paperwork to RK, instant approval and better prices than the Big Box RK. The FBI is coordinating with the ATF who issued the FFL to RK, my congressman is underway with actions against RK for their "paperwork issue"- and they have a question "Why is this U.S. Army, Combat Veteran and his family still waiting after we sent his approval in Black and white?", "Tell me again, where you thought it prudent to say that he and his family were also stripped?" Next stop corporate. Heads WILL ROLL. FYI, the guy at Overmountain Rifleman was blown away, but not surprised, turns out he worked with this guy directly! It's pretty common. Rural King is a nice place but they have a horrible and I mean horrendous FFL practice. It is now my entire soul mission to change that for those that come after me. I will not sleep. Assistant Manager Avery was very unprofessional and really unconcerned that no laying pellets were on the floor for purchase. He was the only person that could drive the forklift there and it would take him an hour to dig the pallets out for me. There are two spots for the laying pellets and I know they just didn't run out. Went to Tractor supply to get my feed. Much friendlier greeted me at the door! Unlike Avery who acted like my not being able to purchase chicken feed was not his problem. Rural King, we ate dinner and was driving by and had never heard of this store before. Never noticed it before either which is very odd. The place was super busy so we had to check it out. We didn't have a lot of time to walk around but, we did found the dog section and bought some shampoos and items I had been wanting to get. Did some damage fast lol The store is big and I wish we had more time to look at everything, from what we seen they have everything for farming , hunting, some food items, clothes, pet stuff, lawn items everything you can think of!! Seems like if you come here you will find what you need for sure. We will stop back again sometime when we have time to walk around more and see what else they have. When you check in you get free popcorn which I didn't get since we just had dinner, so I saved it for next time. read more

It's a general store, updated to fit into the 21st Century, a great place to walk about and spend a rainy afternoon. There's a wide variety of inventory. I've purchased several casual-type shirts, and they have attractive prices on Carhart items. Their prices on Yeti products are pretty well 'full-list' however. Prices on Milwaukee and DeWalt tools are about average, but the inventory selection is very deep. Can't comment on ammo prices, because the dreaded 'ammo-hogs' had visited just prior to my visit, cleaning out the inventory stock. Access to the store is made easy by a signal light on the main road. ADA access is good. Plenty of helpful, friendly employees are on hand. The parking lot is large, and trailer-friendly. This location should fill a needed gap in farm and home needs, conveniently placed under one, friendly roof! read more

A wonderful blend of a national box hardware store, Tractor Supply and Southern States, and your favorite hunting and fishing store with an auto parts store thrown in AND grocery staples. The only downside has been staffing in the gun department: customers are often two and three deep and waiting for half an hour or more for assistance. If you are picking up a weapon, the process is even painfully longer. Not complaining about the staff but more so about management and their inadequate staffing of that very popular department. I helped a friend search for a specific farm toy (John Deere Harvester set) for a Christmas present for his 5 year old grandson. I searched a lot of hardware store sites and saw Rural King had farm equipment toys. I ordered the toy after reading shipping time and delivery time for the items they offer, shipping was 1-3 business days, and delivery was 2 business days for my area. Well, after 6 days I sent an email wanting to know if the item had shipped, I received no reply, so after 2 more days I called customer service and all they told me was I would get an update email, I did, and it says the item was shipped. I went to their website and put in the order number and it says "Not yet shipped", it has yet been 2 more days and still says "Not yet shipped". This experience has been less than pleasant and very aggravating to say the least. I feel like the item will not arrive in time for Christmas, so tomorrow I will go in search of a John Deere Harvester set from another source. The farm I work for has spent thousands with Rural King for farming equipment, but Rural King can't deliver a toy in time for Christmas. Rural King is well worth the drive; they have EVERYTHING in abundance, and much of it is cheap! What's everything? Britches; Shirts; Gloves; Hats. Traditional sizes plus big and tall. Automotive items; plumbing; farm items; food stuffs that are uncommon like sarsaparilla soda. Why not five stars? Items are often not tagged with prices, which is bad for the customer, and bad for Rural King. Things get left at the register if I find out that they're pricey, which means that Rural King employees have to restock the shelves with the items that I decline to purchase at checkout. Still, they're a great store to have around, and an even better store if they start tagging their items with prices. read more

My disabled brother was shopping there this past Wednesday and asked an employee to help him with something on a high shelf. The employee was rude and made fun of him. It's not easy to get good help in Morganton that wants to work. At the Rural king there were lot's of employees working hard. If they didn't know about something in that massive store they would find an answer and assist instantly. Freindly, helpfull staff. This store was great when they first opened, well stocked and organized, now not so much. It seems every trip here becomes more and more frustrating. When you finally do find what you were looking for it's 3 aisles down from where it's supposed to be and check every thing you plan to purchase with the shelf tag and make sure that's the actual product and actual price charged. There's no reason for a store to have so many mislabeled shelf tags. I understand that items get moved by customers but when the entire stock is placed there I don't think a customer took the time to reset their store. If it was occasionally I could understand but it's just not that way. Products are placed wherever there's an empty slot on the shelf, the bin items are a mixed assortment of anything and everything like it never gets straightened out maybe the employees don't have time to sort these things out and make sure they're properly tagged, but neither do I. I am a customer who really wanted to support this store and was excited to see it come into our town and now it's just a frustrating experience to shop here. It may just be the items I look for here I don't know but someone needs to just straighten the place up. It's starting to look more like a yard sale than a business. read more

Well no one will prolly see this review because it's not telling how great they ate quite the opposite,to start , I did my back ground check to purchase a shotgun back in October was clear since I didn't have anything on my record to prevent me from buying the gun it was for my eighteen years old grandson for Christmas,well he opened it on Christmas day loved it we went out to shoot it the same day and it was malfunctioned so I took it back to rual king the next day,they said that I couldn't exchange it and they couldn't give me my money back both was against their policy,the ONLY thing they could do was send it back to the manufacturer for repairs ,so a month goes by no word on my grandsons gun so I was up there one shopping and thought I would check on it. To find out that it got misplaced by rual king for a month or so before they found it and sent it to the manufacturer for the repair,so another month or so goes by and it finally comes back but rual king put on the card the sights were what need repaired when in fact it was a malfution problem so it goes back to manufacturer,another month or so goes by comes back ready to pick it up the manager says since it had been over 30 days I have to reapply for my gun I have already paid for months ago so I did and for some reason it came back delayed ,the mange so never hear anything from them for a couple weeks I call it is still delayed ,so I find out the law is if after three business days if its still delayed not denyed they have to give me my gun but that's also against rule Kings policy,so the manager said since it was there falt in the beginning when the gun got misplaced and they put the wrong repair on it that caused the gun to beheld up for months he would give me a gift car for the price of the gun FOR ALL MY INCONVENIENCE that I have been through and when I get it cleared up I can still have the gun ,well I have emailed the FBI and it seems my information had been compromised and I am going to have to go get fingerprinted and take my fingerprints to the closest ADF to get clear to ever buy a gun again muchless to get the one I have already paid for at rual king, I knowthis is looking but thought you needed to know how Rual king operates, now they tell me they have already gave me the money back for my gun ,which was the gift car they gave me for all my inconvenience not the gun.wwhich if you remember it's against their policy to reimburse anyone for s malfutioned gun.and I am wondering if my background got compromised at rual king never had a problem buy a gun or getting gun permits for guns until rual king,it sad because they used to be my favorite store until made the mistake of buying a malfunctioned gun from them,buyers beware. read more
