So I went on the Fox Farm website and found a couple of retailers that sell them close to me. When I called, none had the raised bed soil, only the potting soil. EXCEPT Rural King! They have it and at less of a cost! Rural King has everything: . Soil . Fertilizers . Chicks . Clothing . Snacks . Planters . Gates . Buckets of all sorts . Hunting supplies & Fishing gear . Chainsaws & lawn tools The service was pleasant. Informative and friendly. The prices are amazing. It's an hout from home but no traffic. Plenty of parking. I will return. read more

Think Tractor Supply on steroids! This place is HUGE. My husband and me thoroughly enjoyed walking around this store and checking it all out. Kinds of things they have: 1) Plenty of clothing - work boots, jeans, tops, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets. Also kid's sizes 2) Feed - for many types of animals: dogs, cats, birds, horses, etc. 3) Bedding - for many types of animals 4) Gun safes, guns and ammo - they also offer classes 5) Live chicks and ducks - soooo cute 6) Outdoor furniture - think nice porch swings, recliners 7) Weed killer and fertilizer 8) Bird feeders and bird food 9) Golf carts 10) BBQ grills and they are a dealer for The Green Egg (a fancy smoker, bbq) 11) Dog adoption events - they had one going on while we were there 12) Food - a few isles of snacks, drinks, etc. They also had a nice selection of jarred items - jams, fruit, chow chow, pepper jelly, pickled eggs 13) Stihl power tools 14) Magazines and toys And even more! They have a free rewards program you can join when you check out and then just give them your phone number each visit (we did that). The staff was super friendly and helpful. Went looking for Oreo, a bigger bag of the Nutrish dog food. I spent almost an hour trying to find a better brand/deal on dog food here,Nutrish doesn't have any sizes bigger than the one I purchased at PetSmart. So I ended up buying her some Purina one dry dog food and a bone from here which she ate within an hour man she's getting big. My friend bought a gun online paid but had to go into store for background check. No problem normally but wasn't told until he had to pick up so okay again but after waiting proper time, he went in first time after he got off work. 30 mins before they closed but was told nope not today because it took 15 minutes for the safe to open. So he explained he worked and that was the only time after he got off he could get there. So he went back the next day 45 minutes before closing only to be to no that the gun counter was closed. My brother usually gets his chickens from tractor supply. He got 6 baby chicks from Rural king and 3 died already within two days of purchase. They do not refund or replace. Do not buy chickens here, they clearly are not taking care of them during delivery or while at the store. Update: sister in law called corporate, the store is now making amends for the chickens. I hope they keep this in mind for future sales. read more

Just tried to return $100 Carhartt hiking boots (they're coming apart)... had the receipt - went to the service desk and the manager didn't even have courtesy to talk with us. The person at the desk used their radio and told the manager we bought the shoes in Sept - manager said they have a 30-day policy -- you deal with Carhartt! We are in Rural King (or my husband is) possibly every week... he loves this store. The fact the manager wouldn't even grace us with their presence is insulting. And I'm a bit put out they wouldn't switch/trade the shoes as well since we're regular customers. I know stores can "bend" policy... I realize we're outside of the 30 days-- and yes -- maybe I'm whining. And we will be contacting Carhartt BUT I can tell you I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING ANYTHING FROM RURAL KING THAT ISN'T FOOD/WATER. Interesting store if ur not from the area.... It's like a giant Walmart for farmers, they even sell live baby chickens, ducks, turkeys and rabbits. They sell farm equipment to clothing and food... great gardening place for ideas and they have fishing gear, boating stuff and even a good selection of pets stuff... Bought corn on the cob for squirrels. Heavily infested with weevils. And by the time I realized this had weevils all over my lanai. Corn unusable. Sealed it in garbage bag, and used a couple cans of bug spray to kill the infestation. The amount I bought would last all winter. As it is never used it once, and now waiting to be sure all weevils are dead, so I can buy corn on the cob from another source. read more

If for no other reason than to experience a real slice of rural quirkiness, this place deserves a visit. The first thing that greeted us as we walked into Rural King, was a woman with a deer soliciting donations for an animal shelter. It was all for a cool cause, but it is not every day that a shelter breaks out the big guns of a deer and a pair of skunks. So this set the tone for our visit to Rural King. It was Christmas Eve, and we only had 30 minutes to browse, but in that short period, I found priceless treasures and smiles galore. I mean, you just have to love a place that sells live chickens in the back. The whole place was like a some gigantic general store out of the old Green Acres sitcom.. "Farm living is the life for me.." Rural King's "He Haw" atmosphere doesn't mean that you can't find some serious treasures. You're bound to discover something that you never knew you needed but could not live without. For me it was some spicy pickled mushroom and a 50th Anniversary tin of Moonpies. I'm not really a Moon Pie fan--I just like the sound of the name--but I'm certain someone I know will want them. Score!!! This place may be quirkier than Walmart, andfor that reason alone, it's a shopping stop not to be missed. Now, I wonder if they have any pickled pigs feet in a jar? read more

Was there for a little shopping and have always had a positive experience, but last week upon leaving. my tire was flat before exiting the parking lot. I limped into a service station and they pulled out a 2 inch spike...thank goodness for run flat tires and the repair was not much. But I presented the spike and the bill and they said there was no evidence they were at fault. I have always enjoyed going to the store. The only thing I do noticed tyere's no diversity, staff but most of them are nice and friendly I always feel welcomed the prices are decent and every once in awhile I do take advantage of the special that they have. I like buying bird food there, and just simply look at everything there's some decent discounts when it comes to Garden items. read more

Bummer! The popcorn machine was down. We were looking forward to that. We didn't really know what to expect but Rural King has it all. You can by clothes and pigs. Chickens and gas cans. Paper towels and gummy bears. Seriously, it's a huge assortment. Think of Walmart meets Ace Hardware and Tractor Supply. It's worth a trip and an adventure. We spent $200 on a heaping cart so clearly we found some things we needed! Literally bought stuff for rice crispy treats, a gas can, squirrel food, shop towels, moon pies and more! read more

Wow! This store is pretty great for no frills good prices but the customer service is what cannot be beat. I'm not sure what goes on but the employees seem content and happy, not overworked, and generally pretty knowledgeable. However today the best part was the assistant manager Mike Leo. One of the absolute most knowledgeable guys I've ever met about gardening and lawn care. He identified stuff in my lawn immediately and told me the ins and outs of how to handle it. Stuff the extension office in Tavares couldn't do. This guy proves that, at least at Rural King, customer service is not dead. read more

Very disappointed in my treatment at Rural King today. They were checking out people in the return area and I got into that line and when it became my turn even though there were people behind me the girl sent me away. I was told to go to other check outs. I don't walk well and was using a store scooter. I've been checked out many times at the return deck. I felt really embarrassed. read more

i bought a pressure washer in for repair it was not purchased there but had it serviced before in the ocala store a few days later i called to find out when it would be ready and found out the tec was at school,and it had not been touched call again yesterday talked to the tec and get a real bad answer i then called the store manger told him what had happen and ofcause he was very sorry about my experience he told me his assistant would be there in the evening to help me pick up my unrepaired washer when i got there she was waiting for me followed her back to get my washer and was offered a choice of 3 washers to finish my job told me they would let me know when my would be ready but go ahead and use the one of my choice also gave me a $25 gift certificate this store manger went way out of his way to make me happy and made me a customer for life and will tell everyone i know how great he to satisfy me (ed israel) read more

I was treated very, very poorly by an employee there and will not return. It's to bad...I have a small farm and spend quite a bit monthly on feed and supplies. I'd rather pay a little more and go across the street to Tractor Supply where at least I feel comfortable in the store. I will give two stars for the merchandise. My dogs do like their store brand feed and I've bought some shorts that were their brand I believe for my husband that were a great deal and he likes.
