They have baby chicks for sale. I alway get my dog food from here. I purchase plants for my garden. You can even buy some food here. Customer service is good. Employees are always willing to help. Who doesn't love a trip to Rural King? The only place you can buy baby chickens, fencing, pickled eggs, candy, cowboy boots, Lodge cast iron pans, dog toys, guns, and birdseed at the same place. I went to pick up a gift card as a Christmas gift and got some black licorice while I was there. The cashier was helpful with getting the gift card. I usually get my birdseed for my outdoor bird feeders here because I've found it is the best price in the area or online. If you're a popcorn fan, they also have many different styles of loose popcorn and seasonings. There is way more at this store than you might think. read more

They have horrible service. The manager there took zero ownership. Her name tag wasn't visible, hesitated to give me her name, which make me think she wasn't a manager and was probably lying. Either way, do not do a pick up order there. They will sell it, let you drive up, and then tell you to get lost. read more

I have a soft spot for Rural King. It was my Dad's favorite store. He could spend hours in a Rural King. I would know where I was even if blindfolded. Every Rural King has the same distinct smell. I'm not really sure what it is. They have free popcorn and friendly staff. It's not really my kind of store, but hubby loves it. I guess it's a guy thing. They do have lots of farm supplies and pet supplies. It's fun to just walk around and see the unusual items. Checkout is always fast. They have a nice big parking lot. In the Spring they have a nice assortment of plants and trees. They also have a lot of seeds if you like starting your plants yourself. A very nice store! read more

Last night went down to Rural King to return some ammo (son bought the wrong kind) and when we went up to the service counter, we heard from across the registers a yell "That side is closed. You won't get service over on that side". Keep in mind there was no sign or anything to notify us. She came over and said they don't return shells anymore. I asked for a manger and she point to her name tag.... It said customerservice not manager. I said are you a manger? She replied O I guess you what a store manger and rolled her eyes. Manager came over and said "ya"... I just wanted to make sure that she was correct and we can't return Ammo? She said sure and walked off....... That is fine if you can not return Ammo (with a receipt) but there is no reason for customer service to be like that. As far as the rest of our experience, it was hard to look past the dirt on the floors, shelf's a wreck and the place a mess. You can do better Rural King. We won't be back. read more

I like the store for most things, but the gun section needs some work. Illinois is a concealed carry state, so why bother selling outside the waistband holsters and not more CCW holsters? Better still if they had holsters and lights that were compatible. Many of the guns they list on the website are out of stock. read more

I love an occasional shopping trip to the farm supply store. Rural King is a good one. Lots of merchandise, clean, and free popcorn while you shop. There aren't that many stores around where you can buy Carhartt clothing, animal feed, and automotive supplies all in the same place. I'm sure I'll be back when the mood strikes. read more

We went there to pick up a gun, and was told that the manager was at lunch, to come back later, LOL we came back later and the manager had lost the keys to the gun case, so we waited for her to find the keys, then they said the computer was down and we had to come back the next day, when we did, the computer was still down and then the manager got into an argument with a coworker, I don't believe they are very organized there read more

Never enough staff. Be prepared to wait in long lines. If you need help on the floor, well, good luck with that. They could triple the staff easily from the looks of the volume of customers. read more

This store has greatly improved, they have more stuff in here available than what they use to, the special light bulbs for our bathroom are way cheaper here they're $3.19 here vs $9.78 at Lowe's which is a huge difference. On top of that the people at this store have gotten so much friendlier which is great. This is a great little home town place to shop at, they have a lot of things here that you won't find anywhere else or if you can the prices here are much better than anywhere else. This is my second favorite store on earth. You can bring your dog and you get free popcorn. Things they have that are a big deal- 1. Taste of the wild dog food (ranked #1 on amazon for non grain based dog food). 2. Car batteries for 19.99. 3. Live chicks (baby chickens) 4. Okay so I have 2 heaters in my cart along with 2 packs of jersey gloves, a carhartt sock cap, and a box of 80 count coffee pods for a Keurig. I asked two different employees a question about ladies gloves one had no idea and some big goofy looking guy just turned and walked away. WTF FRIENDLY GROUP OF EMPLOYEES YOU HAVE WORKING HERE. And clean up your store it looks like crap. Needless to say I left cart in middle of an aisle and left. Never be back here again Waterloo is much better store employees are friendly and helpful and store is almost always immaculate well as a farm store can be. My boyfriend and I heard about a great deal through Rural King to buy a 30 lb bag of Iams dog food for about $30 vs. The 17.5 lb bag of Iams from Walmart we were buying for $23. If I had known their dog food was infested with roaches I wouldn't have bothered because the cost to try to get rid of the roaches has completely offset the initial savings. We purchased this food and after living here for three years and never once seeing a roach, within 2 to 2 1/2 weeks we started seeing baby roaches on the counters. I believe my dog sensed this because he refused to even eat the food until he became so hungry he had too until we were able to throw out the bad rural king food and get him the same food, but fresh, from walmart again. Of course anyone who has ever had this problem knows how disgusting it is and how expensive and hard it is to rid your home of these pests once established. I am beyond pissed and will never again shop at this store. I wanted to post a Review on their webpage, but it wouldn't allow me to. So I am posting it here and wherever else I can find to. Went today to purchase a riding lawn mower for my dad for Father's Day. There wasn't any associates outside servicing besides the man and woman giving away free hotdogs. I walked up to them and ask if I can get assistance on the lawn mowers, and he called someone to come out to help me. Shortly after, another man came out who was supposed to assist me, however did not even look my way. He looked very irritated, and the other guy asked him the price of the lawn mower I was looking at. The irritated associate informed us the price, which was $1,099, but still not looking my direction. The other guy told him that's all I wanted and they both did a strange smile at one another. As he was about to walk away, I said that wasn't the only assistance I needed. I asked if they delivered, and he rudely said no and walked off. I was so confused. There I was trying to purchase a lawn mower, and the worker did not even want to talk to me, yet along even look at me. I planned to purchase the lawn mower at the moment, but was going to come back later on with a truck to pick it up. Everyone was so rude beside the nice woman giving away hotdogs. They had a dying rabbit on display. It was non-responsive, twitching, clearly not-eating, and had debris on its face. It was clear that the staff was aware of its condition as well as handwritten note saying "I'm not feeling well" was placed on top of its cage. The store it's self is fine besides the aisles always being blocked the gun department is my problem way to small and the staff that is usually there drive me nuts one is ALWAYS on the phone and doesn't know jack shit about guns which is whatever get in where you can fit but get off the damn phone, the other is older man who has either no sense of time or just plain doest give a shit carries on way to long of conversations about nothing while left your standing there, if there's a crowd you might as well just grab a chair and clear your schedule, Ive had to walk out on more than occasion I was really thrilled when they got the gun department but they've really let me down read more
