The lights are beautiful ranging from neon (bright) colors to mellow colors. The architecture design is beautiful as well. Such a cool gateway into downtown San Antonio! This…read morepicturesque bridge underpass has been transformed by the talented artist, Bill Fitzgibbons. The artist made cool perforated metal light covers and LED lights that change color along the underside of the bridge. It's a great way to get into the downtown area- the lights do all kinds of cool patterns, designs, and an ever-changing display. Commerce St. is a one-way street, and it prevents traffic from going up Commerce on the other side of the highway that divides downtown from downtown's east side. Once you cross through the display of color, you enter into the St. Paul Square area where the Alamodome is, and some fun restaurants and bars. The artwork invites pedestrians to cross across the natural barrier of Highway 281/37- it's a cool revitalization idea to bring back the entirety of the downtown area. This display of color only goes at night, but the cool fixtures are still cool to look at during the daytime.

There just wasn't a lot to do at this year's Luminaria. I have been a couple of times in the past…read moreand had a great time. There just wasn't a lot to experience this year. Totally not impressed. There was one spot for beer, and they weren't very adventurous on the food items. They had chicken or beef kebabs for $10, some gorditas, and hot pretzels, but not a whole lot more. We got there early and went into one of the venues to watch an awesome local band called Slowpoke who had two guest violinists, and a cellist. They were really great, and it was the highlight of the evening. When we emerged however, Hemisfair Park was PACKED to the hilt with people. The food and drink booths took credit cards, so that was a huge plus. I'm going to take a pass on Luminaria or the next few years in hopes that they improve.

Always Dreamin'! Local artist, Cruz Ortiz created this tall…read moretower that overlooks the freeway and welcomes you to the south side. The tower gives a shout out to South Texas Tejano music legend, Selena! Viva Selena! Anything for Selenas... There's also other symbols of local things on the sides of the tower that makes it a homage to the south side- depicting tall tales, animals and other cultural items. The stars spin in the wind, and the whole thing is illuminated. It's a really cool public work of art! This tower sits 60 feet high on the corner of IH 35 South and Zarzamora on the south side of San Antonio. Cruz Ortiz is one of SA's most popular and prolific artists. He runs the Snakehawk Press that prints up political, and locally-themed posters on his screen printer. He's often at local events printing up bandannas and t-shirts.

This public art mural overlooks East Riverside Blvd and the Colorado River. The mural is to the…read morewest of I-35 on the south side of Riverside. It depicts a skull with butterfly wings, and some mockingbirds and bluebonnets. As you know, mockingbirds are the Texas state bird, and bluebonnets are the Texas state flower. I appreciate the Texas pride in this mural. The wall this mural is painted on is retaining wall, with a residential area behind/above the mural. It's not easy to get to this mural, as it's up on a hill overlooking the roadway.

It contains all the things Austin is known for Capitol of Texas, Lady Bird Lake and Congress Avenue Bridge (with 1M+ bats underneath), University of Texas Tower, symbols of Austin being the "Live Music Capitol of the World" and our Texas Flag. Folks visit this mural daily to take pictures. It likely commemorates their wonderful time in Austin, TX.

This mural reminds me of the things Texas is proud of such the hill country, the many waterways, cowboys and cowgirls, beaches (Yes! Texas does have beaches), parks and nature sites and rodeos. The Alamo is prominently featured int he mural (located in San Antonio, TX and one of Texas' top tourist attractions).
