O Mai Ga!!!! What a super cool place!…read more Came here for the Día de los Muertos event and not only was the event so much fun, the location was totally rad! First, the Día de los Muertos evento was dope. So many people dressed up for it, it felt like you were in the middle of a Dia de los Muertos procession. The event offered free drink samples whiskey, vodka, tekillya among others (you know how that sampling goes [wink wink]). There was a DJ that kept the event hoppin', food trucks, and vendors. The decorations and vendor booths were super cool. As for the location, man, über cool! Never been before but totally amazed at the art. All the murals were fantastic; so much talent in one location. It was such an amazing backdrop for this event.

There just wasn't a lot to do at this year's Luminaria. I have been a couple of times in the past…read moreand had a great time. There just wasn't a lot to experience this year. Totally not impressed. There was one spot for beer, and they weren't very adventurous on the food items. They had chicken or beef kebabs for $10, some gorditas, and hot pretzels, but not a whole lot more. We got there early and went into one of the venues to watch an awesome local band called Slowpoke who had two guest violinists, and a cellist. They were really great, and it was the highlight of the evening. When we emerged however, Hemisfair Park was PACKED to the hilt with people. The food and drink booths took credit cards, so that was a huge plus. I'm going to take a pass on Luminaria or the next few years in hopes that they improve.

This public art mural overlooks East Riverside Blvd and the Colorado River. The mural is to the…read morewest of I-35 on the south side of Riverside. It depicts a skull with butterfly wings, and some mockingbirds and bluebonnets. As you know, mockingbirds are the Texas state bird, and bluebonnets are the Texas state flower. I appreciate the Texas pride in this mural. The wall this mural is painted on is retaining wall, with a residential area behind/above the mural. It's not easy to get to this mural, as it's up on a hill overlooking the roadway.

Tile mural by Jesse Trevino! This large scale mosaic is on…read morethe side of the Goodwill building. It replaces a former mural and depicts the mural being recreated by Goodwill employees, all working together for the greater good. It's kind of a meta mosaic; a mosaic recreation of another work, being recreated in the work. Jesse Trevino is an epic San Antonio artist. If you look close by to this mural, you'll see his mosaic of an angel with a broken wing at the Santa Rosa Christus children's hospital behind you. Then there's the world's largest religious votive candle on the other side of the highway from here. Jesse Trevino is a Vietnam War disabled Veteran and uses this city as inspiration for a prolific art career. This is a cool place to hang out in front of the Goodwill. All the buildings around here are cool and old, and they open up onto a little plaza that overlooks Market Square and Milam Park across the busy intersection. If you're gearing up for Fiesta, hanging out at this mural for a few before heading into Fiesta de los Reyes at Market Square is crucial.

It contains all the things Austin is known for Capitol of Texas, Lady Bird Lake and Congress Avenue Bridge (with 1M+ bats underneath), University of Texas Tower, symbols of Austin being the "Live Music Capitol of the World" and our Texas Flag. Folks visit this mural daily to take pictures. It likely commemorates their wonderful time in Austin, TX.

This mural reminds me of the things Texas is proud of such the hill country, the many waterways, cowboys and cowgirls, beaches (Yes! Texas does have beaches), parks and nature sites and rodeos. The Alamo is prominently featured int he mural (located in San Antonio, TX and one of Texas' top tourist attractions).

The instructors are great and very passionate about teaching young ones various art technique. Her favorite part of the summer camp program was having the opportunities to display all of her artwork and the art gallery and inviting her friends and family to come view it it made for such a special experience. I would highly recommend the summer cfor all little ones.

"Running with the Moon" is a work by Brad Oldham Sculpture located by Brooks Creek in the Greenlink…read morePark. A larger-than-life figure of a boy is pulling on a rope connected to a crescent moon made of stainless steel butterflies. The sculpture draws attention to the Greenline, which is s fun park but under-used. It will be fun to come back in the evening and see the sculpture lit up.

Such a cool sculpture! This public work of art on Brooks…read moreCity Base is a wonderful statue! It was built by Brad Oldham to beautify a public park with an outdoor amphitheater. The statue is all chromed out, with a kid pulling a rope, like he's flying a kite made of butterflies in the shape of a crescent moon. Interesting! The butterfly moon is cantilevered over the water, so it looks perilously perched on the edge of the pond, as if to defy gravity. It's as if the boy running with the kite string is the local individual, striving to drive into what the future holds, and the crescent moon is the community rising up behind him. Moving! Please don't climb on it.
