I am now entering hour THREE of this experience. We prepaid for three races and arcade cards for nine teenage girls. These are not ordinary teenage girls. These are high-school wrestlers. They are feral. They are starving. They are stronger than me. I fear for my safety. I've had two beers over the course of three hours because I'm driving the girls home and trying to be a responsible adult. If this were not the case, I would currently be on beer number THIRTY and possibly asleep under a picnic table. The races? Absolute chaos. The third race has been such a disaster that: * We asked for a refund * The birthday girl's dad MISSED THE RACE ENTIRELY * There are WAY too many carts on the track * It's basically bumper cars without consent * Accidents every 6 seconds * Zero flow * Zero explanation * Maximum confusion At one point I genuinely wondered if this was an experimental stress test sponsored by NASA or the Department of Defense. The girls are now circling the track like gladiators while I sit here hungry, exhausted, and emotionally broken, wondering how a simple birthday party turned into a Lord of the Flies karting edition. Look--I'm not asking for perfection. I'm asking for: * A schedule that makes sense * Races that actually happen * A track that isn't a demolition derby * And maybe a snack so I don't get jumped by nine wrestlers in Crocs This place had potential. But today? Today was a full-blown shit show. One star. Would not recommend for: * Birthday parties * Groups * Parents * Or anyone who values time, sanity, or cartilage. If you see a tired adult staring into the distance in this building... it's probably me. Send help.

Ferraris, a Lamborghini, Porsches, and some Charger Hellcats for ride-alongside. Having never driven on a racetrack before and with multiple cars on the track, I first did a ride-along with a pro driver to learn the track, understand the cones, and learn the hand signals. Well worth the $80 before my drive. I drove a Ferrari 488 GTB. To use Vivienne's words on "Pretty Woman", "This baby corners like it's on rails!" So smooth and powerful, you hit 120mph and barely feel it. For $429, you get 4 laps around the track in one of the cars. For multiple car experiences, there are package deals. The track was great. Fun curves and some stretches where you can really put the pedal to the metal. Loved this entire experience. 10/10. Would do again. Driving out of the country club going only 30mph after that was hard. It felt comically and yet annoyingly slow

I got there an hour before the drive time. Since there were only 3 of us in our time slot, we skipped the class and did an expedited version of the do's and don'ts. I enjoyed the car and my instructor was good, but I hated the track. I was expecting something like Nascar style or at least some good straightaways. There were too many turns and not enough time to go as fast as I wanted. I only got up to 100 mph. I did that in my regular car on the tollway. If they changed the track for the Joliet location then I would recommend this place. For the amount of money, it was not enough time to really get a feel for the car. You get 3 laps. 1st one was a waste since my instructor was going through everything with me. 2nd one was when I was starting to get the hang of it. In all reality, I just had one really good lap.

I've been to multiple K1 Speed locations, so this isn't coming from someone who doesn't understand…read morehow the experience should be. I actually like the brand. But the K1 Speed Buffalo Grove location is easily the worst I've ever been to. I want to be clear. This incident has lost our business completely and to be even more clear...because of very very poor management. From the moment we walked in, things felt disorganized and poorly managed. The experience quickly went downhill. Rude staff, lack of clear communication, and an overall feeling that nobody there really had control of what was going on. Empty on a Friday. What's more concerning is that the lack of organization didn't just feel frustrating, it felt unsafe at times. When a place involves high-speed racing, there's no room for sloppy management or confusion. The environment should feel controlled and professional, and this felt like the opposite. The most frustrating part was dealing with the general manager, Nick Hurst. Instead of trying to resolve the situation or even show basic understanding, he came across as dismissive and unwilling to help. When issues come up, leadership is supposed to step in and fix them, not make customers feel like they're the problem. What's disappointing is that this doesn't feel like a K1 issue it feels like a this location specifically issue. I've had good experiences elsewhere, which makes this one stand out even more, in the worst way. At the end of the day, there are plenty of entertainment options in the area that value your time and money more than this place does. I would strongly recommend choosing a different location if you're set on K1. If anyone from K1 upper management is reading this, seriously, take a hard look at what's happening here. Between the poor management and the safety concerns, this location isn't just underperforming, it's actively damaging your brand and right now it feels like it shouldn't even be operating in its current state. Would be more than happy to share more.

My son wanted to take 2 other friends back on a Thursday evening. Unfortunately, dads was closed but I saw that mid- America was open for business score! This is way bigger than dads. They had the "professional" racers up front and put us on the beginner track on the back. Lurie set up my kids and also had them racing for 30 min. They all had a fun time despite a few meltdowns, but usually the case with a group of 1st grade boys. The cars and tracks here were in much better condition than dads where everything kept breaking. So if choosing between the 2 locations I'd probably come back here next time. It's a great way to kill some time (especially on a rainy or winter day) and a pretty affordable activity too! I also think would be a fun spot for a kids bday party!

Owner Roger Schmitt operates "Mid-America Raceway and Hobbies"…read more Mid-America Raceway and Hobbies is one of the last surviving electric model car (slot) raceways open to the public. There were thousands of 'commercial' slot car tracks in the USA in the late 1960's and 1970's; there were a half dozen racing centers in the greater Atlanta area alone. A lot of things caused the slot racing centers to close one by one- people not being as interested in hobbies and the rise of computer video games being a couple of reasons. In the last few years, there has been a revival of sorts with a certain amount of people who were glued to computer screens in the 1980's and 1990's playing "adventure" and "virtual reality" games discovering it was actually more fun "playing" in 3-D. So hobbies like model railroading, R/C airplanes, and yes slot car racing have made a comeback. For a change, more new raceways have been opening in the last few years in the USA than have been closing. All that having been said- Mid-America Raceway and Hobbies is one of the best equipped and run model car raceways in North America. Mid-America Raceway and Hobbies is about people having fun and inviting their inner child to come out to play. Rental racing cars are available so that you and your buddy can pretend you are Ricky Bobby and Cal Naughton Jr. to "Shake and Bake" around their awesome 8-lane Oval track. By the same token children are invited for hours of family fun-Mid-America Raceway and Hobbies can even arrange a memorable racing birthday party for children aged 6 and up. Call them for special package deals for a day of fun for any sized group. Does your company want to encourage team building? How about a team racing event? Drivers, pit crews, team leaders... miniature racing teaches the same working together for success lessons that "pro" racing instills. Call the raceway now to plan and schedule your corporate event. Stop in sometime and check it out for yourself- but keep an open mind that this is something intended to be a pre-digital age entertainment. It may not be the right sort of thing for impatient or short attention span children or adults.
