Let me count the ways how much I miss and love Equinox…read more Yes, I know--it's a high-end gym. But you truly get what you pay for. I was a member of this location for over a decade, and since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I can honestly say there is nothing quite like it. The nearest one to me now is in Atlanta, and I still miss the San Mateo club regularly. This location has everything you could possibly want in a fitness facility--and then some. The Fitness Floor Downstairs is a beautifully air-conditioned workout space designed for people who are serious about exercising. No distractions, no crowds hovering by the windows--just a clean, focused environment. You'll find: * Full weight training equipment * Recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills * Dedicated spin, Pilates, TRX, and group fitness studios * A large open stretching area with foam rollers * Cold, filtered water stations throughout * Staff available for spotting if you're training solo It's efficient, professional, and thoughtfully designed. Locker Rooms & Amenities The locker rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a gym. They are consistently spotless and fully stocked with: * Plush towel service * Spacious showers with teak benches * Steam rooms infused with eucalyptus * Complimentary razors, Q-tips, and personal care items * Premium Kiehl's products It's luxurious, yes--but also incredibly practical. You can comfortably get ready for work, dinner, or travel without feeling rushed. The Rooftop Pool One of the standout features is the heated rooftop pool. It has multiple lap lanes, cabanas, and water aerobics equipment, and it truly feels like a mini country club in the middle of downtown San Mateo. The pool is heated year-round, which means you can swim in any season--something you quickly get spoiled by. They even provide sunscreen from Supergoop!, along with full towel service. It's those little details that make the experience feel elevated. Classes, Spa & Services The class offerings are extensive and easy to manage through the app. Signing in is seamless--just scan your phone and go. Highlights include: * Yoga in a beautiful bamboo studio with HEPA filtration and ceiling fans * Pilates (available as private, duo, or small-group sessions) * A full-service spa on the upper level * A juice bar and retail shop featuring premium fitness apparel Everything feels intentional, polished, and well-maintained. Location & Convenience The club is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo, making it incredibly walkable. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and cafés nearby, including one of my favorite bakeries and specialty markets. Parking is also surprisingly easy for a downtown location: * Two-hour validation * Surface lot, garage, and rooftop parking options That convenience makes a big difference in daily use. Value & Membership Yes, membership can be expensive. However, many employers offer corporate discounts, which can make the cost more manageable. In my case, the value absolutely justified the price because I used the facility regularly and took advantage of the amenities. Even when I relocated, canceling my membership was straightforward and professional--no pressure, no hassle. Bottom Line Equinox San Mateo set the standard for what a fitness club should be: clean, thoughtfully designed, service-oriented, and genuinely enjoyable to use. If I ever move to another city with an Equinox, I will join again without hesitation. Because at the end of the day-- life is short, and you should live well.

Definitely budget to get there a few minutes earlier just to find parking, but I enjoy working out at this studio thoroughly. Such a fun and motivating workout experience that will leave you feeling sore the day after.

Most of the other Pilates classes that I try to go to have random times that are not convenient for my schedule, but Body Rok has classes available all day and on weekends as well, so it's very convenient. Instructors are super motivating. The reforme machines are clean. The studio itself is very clean. (It visibly used to be a SoulCycle studio, but that's totally fine.) I'd say that my only complaint is that I wish there were mirrors on all four walls. There are only mirrors in the front and the back, and sometimes it makes it hard for me to correct my form. All in all, it's a great Pilates studio, and I really hope that they stay open. The location is good, downtown San Mateo, and it's easy to grab a snack afterwards.

They recently installed a gate where you have to scan you membership in to open the gate. Feels a little bit extra and unnecessary but I guess this is probably to curtail folks from just walking in without checking in. Luckily I have my membership check-in on my apple watch, so it's easy enough. I was impressed that by the squat racks, all the plates were in their correct spots, which is rarity for any 24, so kudos to the members and staff for keeping things tidy. The machines are definitely starting to show their wear and tear and some feel like they are on there last legs but still functional. The functional training area with the astroturf needs some refresh. There's random weights and barely any kettlebells to choose from, honestly good luck finding a pair of the same weight kettlebell lol Since my last review, the basketball courts have been reopened and it looks like people were getting some run in the morning which is great to see. There was nets on the hoops, so I'd consider that a win. It's definitely one of the busier 24 hour fitness locations, so plan to mix up your workout if you are on a time crunch.

What is even more disappointing is that this employee is sitting on the counter/table where customers are supposed to be served and greeted. Paying customers should not have to wait this long while an employee is sitting on the counter instead of properly assisting customers.

I showed up 5 minutes early and instead of focusing on onboarding or safety, the staff prioritized forcing me to create a marketing account and hand over my email before class. I was thrown into a dark room mid-class with no idea where my station was, what weights to use, or even how to start(!) the treadmill, while the oversized class made it impossible for the instructor to notice I was struggling. I had to stop multiple times just to change weights and restart. Change and restart. In the end, I lost the class credit and time. I'm already self conscious going to class and she made me not want to return. Working with Wayne at Morph Fitness is the single best decision I've made for my health. His holistic, customized approach fits a busy life -- as a working mom and surgeon I didn't think I had time to eat well or exercise, but Wayne helped me prioritize my health. I now have far more energy and feel stronger, which makes me a better mom and surgeon. Wayne's knowledge and passion exceed expectations. He understands the mechanics of every muscle and designs intentional programs tailored to your goals. He immediately identified my poor posture from years in the OR and systematically strengthened the right muscles while using targeted stretching and bodywork to relieve chronic tension. A former physical therapist, he blends corrective work with performance training. Wayne is tough but fair -- he corrects form until it's flawless and gives simple, actionable changes that become lasting habits. His nutrition guidance isn't a fad: it kept me full and energized, addressed chronic dehydration (I now drink at least half my body weight in ounces of water), and eliminated the need for sugary snacks. I increased my daily steps and added targeted supplements. In four months I've lost 10 lbs, dropped under 20% body fat, gained significant muscle, and am down a clothing size. Most importantly, my chronic back pain has resolved, my posture is much improved, and I feel the healthiest and happiest I've ever been.
