I love this record store! They have a ton of inventory and it changes every time I go in which is awesome. They're always so nice which is helpful for anyone who's socially awkward. A huge plus is they're always very kind to my daughter, a lot of places seem to not like having toddlers around! I always look forward to stopping in and taking a quick look at what they have. I purchased 2 Peter Criss albums for Record Store Day back on 10/31. On December 19th, I received an email that one of the albums had arrived but the other was "delayed." I picked up the Silver one in early January, but the White cover still hadn't come in. At the store, they had no idea when the White cover would arrive. I've sent repeated emails since then asking for an update with no response. So incredibly unprofessional and rude, and now I'm having to dispute half the charge to get my money back. No wonder independent record stores like this go out of business. You don't get ripped off like this when you purchase on Amazon. read more

Run Out is a great record store. They have such an amazing collection of vinyl and all other sorts of items. You will love this place. I found R&B that I could not find elsewhere and some old time rap that I really wanted. They also have used records. Their prices are just a tad high, but the service is so good. I really needed some help and I got it straight away. Everyone was so nice. The place is clean and organized and you can find what you want once you get a hang of the aisles. The place is not very large and it does not need to be. It was not at all crowded when I was there, so go there and buy something. I love this place. read more

The Runout Groove hates its clientele! Well ... not in the most obvious sense. I didn't feel unwelcome walking in, nor did the staff make me feel awkward after I dug through the whole store grumbling at nearly every bin. At the very least, I *need* to give credit where credit is due to the staff for remaining patient with me while I couldn't even attempt to mask my shock at what I had witnessed as I went through each bin. The selections were overpriced. The selections screamed of an older generation stocking what they assumed Zennials and Gen Alpha found cool (see: how do you do, fellow kids? ) I should have immediately walked out once I peeked at the new arrivals section only to be greeted by shrink wrap after shrink wrap, but I couldn't. I had to stay. I had to see how bad it could really get. The unfortunate truth is the Run Out Groove commits one of the most cardinal of sins of any store that is in the business of wheeling and dealing the arts: being boring. How can a store whose livelihood is built on sharing something as thrilling as music on such an intimate form of physical media as vinyl records be guilty of such a paradoxical transgression? One would only have to spend two minutes in the store to observe that the Run Out Groove's entire stock consist of records they have bought wholesale with only a handful of used records sprinkled in that one could buy at 1/10th the price either down the street at Atomic Records or online. If the Run Out Groove is going to focus on stocking mostly new vinyl, this certainly begs the question: What is the point of going to the Run Out Groove to get the newest Charlie XCX when you could drive 16 minutes south and get it at Amoeba and find every single variant you are looking for? If the record you are looking for is available for the Run Out Groove to order from their distributor, it is also available for same-day local pickup at Target, Walmart, and Barnes & Noble. In an unfortunate irony, the Run Out Groove birthed itself into redundancy. Either by their own contempt for their customers by not making an attempt to go out and buy collections with interesting used records or by their own hubris of trying to compete with larger stores selling the exact same product at lower prices. Maybe it is the experience you are paying for? Sure, all of the cliches of what exists of what a record store should look like are there: the mood lighting, the listening booth, wooden bins, comfy chairs, "knowledgeable" staff. However, the façade quickly falls apart. In an interesting conversation with my wife after the trip, she asked, "They have a listening booth?" "Yes." "... but most of the records are sealed?" "Yes, probably more than 90% of the store" "And you can't open the sealed records to demo them?" "No" "How much did they want again for that More of the Monkees on Colgems?" "... you don't want to know." $40. Actually, in all fairness I don't remember the exact dollar amount and hopefully someone can correct me on the actual price, but do yourself a favor and look for completed listings of More of the Monkees online to see what a used copy typically sells for. That said, I would be remiss if I didn't leave the store with at least one item. I found a honky-tonk cover of the Troggs' "Wild Thing" in a Cameo-Parkway sleeve that I needed for one of my own 45s. Knowing that I was going to come home and start this review immediately after dinner, I decided not to haggle on trying to buy the sleeve without the record that I had no interest in for $5. In the end, I told the rather confused staff-member to keep the record as I was only interested in the sleeve. I don't hate the Run Out Groove, I do think, however, that out of all of the record shops I've visited, the Run Out Groove is exceptionally lackluster. But that's okay! Not every record store can be as fun or eclectic as your Pop Overbite, Record Safari, or even the Last Bookstore. Sometimes we need a place like the Run Out Groove to appreciate that we still have great places like those to spend your time and money at in this day and age. I mean, what are the Harlem Globetrotters without the Washington Generals? I digress, places can change, and as someone who spends a lot of time (and money) in record stores across California, I do hope I can write a follow-up review in a year or so and confidently yell, "I was wrong! The Run Out Groove found its niche! I shop here all the time now!" Put it this way: If a RSD title of an artist you've never even heard of (like... i don't know... Benson Boone's RSD 12" EP) is on a record store's "top shelf" section... turn around... or torture yourself if you're like me and a glutton for punishment by comparing the asking prices of their used vinyl to what they have actually sold for. I promise you can find that mid 70s repress of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida for less than $25 somewhere else. read more

My daughter attended (among other events) a Chappell Roan listening party and Jeff and Ellen made it so special and my daughter and her bestie had the time of their lives and such a special time. First, Jeff and Ellen do a lot for the Burbank and vinyl community so my comments are not personal- even though their response was. I responded to their post on Instagram about how they buy records from us, who may want to clean out our collection or sell an entire collection. I shared my disappointing experience so that those who do want to get rid of lps know that they may not get a fair price offer- and the message is to know the value of your lps when selling back to this store or quite frankly, any store. Jeff responded to my post to say "wrong store". I replied it was his store but not him I dealt with (it was Ellen) and that I could show him our message exchange if he wanted. His response? He blocked me! Someone who shops at his store yet shared a truthful post for sellers to know the value of their lps because the offer i got was insulting- about 15% of their value, a huge profit for this store. Not expecting full value- but 15% of value? (I later sold the same stack of lps for $250, less the MOFI Miles). Can we trust a business who clears out any critical comments about their business and goes so far as to block them? Wasnt rude. Wasnt angry. Shared truth about selling back vinyl- it is really sad and further insulting that Jeff and Ellen, again who i actually think are pretty cool, didnt want consumers to hear it. read more

What a great record store! Very community oriented. TLDR: community events, beautiful store, nice owners! I moved to LA in July for 6 months, and my first stop (before even dropping off my suitcases!!) was to Run Out Groove for a Remi Wolf listening party the day before her sophomore album, Big Ideas, was released on streaming. They had just moved locations from down the street, and there was scaffolding outside with people working on finishing touches -- I don't believe the store was open to the public yet -- but about 15 of us Remi Wolf stans got cozy in the store to listen! I arrived late and the "host" (possibly the owner?) was so kind to me and made sure I felt welcomed and settled. There is a small "stage" area that doubles as seating. There were cozy chairs around the store that those who could not fit on the stage could sit on. I browsed the albums while listening. Good selection and not overpriced! It is a small store, but it doesn't feel crammed at all! I found out about the event from Remi's IG, but the store has one too. Oh, and everyone at the event walked away with a goodie! I got a sticker, but some lucky Remjobs got posters and lighters. 10/10 recommend Oh, and BTW my impetus for writing this review was seeing a negative review from Nick H. that Run Out Groove reposted onto IG @runoutgrooverecords about the music playing outside the shop being too loud Move out of Burbank and into the forest if u don't want fun MY ONE RECOMMENDATION: Partner with a bookstore!! Or ask for donations of music books from customers/shops/community!!! And have 1 or 2 shelves of books for sale right by the stage! Perhaps a library shelf too! With a library shelf, shoppers could borrow a book for, say a week, and then bring it back. They would sign up for an account (& y'all could get some marketing into their inboxes), and then return the book after the designated amount of time. Then this customer is required to visit the store again!! And will hopefully check out a new book, and come back again next week! Plus you get people hanging out to browse books/read them, which will encourage shoppers to stay a while! You get 1) increased chances of them buying a record 2) increased chances of them taking pictures of ur store (free promo!!) 3) encouraging customers to hang out/read means a more frequently full store, which will motivate aimless window shoppers to come inside and stay a while!! Excellent little record shop along Magnolia in Burbank. As soon as we saw records shop from the sidewalk we knew we had to go in and check it out. The store has tons of records, vintage, new, and every genre you could ever want. The store is beautiful inside and very well organized and easy to find exactly what you are looking for. The owner was super nice and helpful and was great being able to chat with her. We picked up some stuff for my son and daughter (loved that they even had signed and vintage t-shirts). Truly a place to pick up something unique for any music lover in your family. Everything was reasonably priced as well and a great variety. Can't wait to take my son up so he can check everything out and do some shopping in person! read more

This is a response to the store owner's response to my review yesterday. He stated: "Based on where you were browsing, it appears the records you selected were actually from the $5 bins." He obviously did not see me move from the back of the store, where the $5 bins were, to the front of the store, where the $2 bins were. He continued: "We don't individually price the discount records but instead rely on customers to be upfront about where they found them." And further: "Despite our doubts about the pricing claim, we still chose to honor the lower price rather than push the issue further." Why thank you. So he really thought I was lying when I said that the records came from the $2 bins and that I would really try to cheat him out of $6 in this way. As for shortchanging me, he wrote: "As for change, the smallest denomination we keep on hand is quarters, which we mentioned when giving your change-though it sounds like that may have been forgotten." He most certainly did not say anything when he gave me my change; I did not "forget" this. Anyway, in principle, if he wants to round off the amount due, he should eat the difference. Why should the customer pay even a few cents more for his decision to only keep quarters? As for a receipt, he wrote: "Our POS system automatically prompts every customer to request one, and we also asked if you'd like one during the transaction, but we didn't get a response." I paid in cash. How could I have been prompted to request a receipt? And no, he most definitely did not ask if I wanted one. My horrible experience in this store has only been compounded by the blatant lies in the owner's response. Suffice it to say that I am never going back there and I will make sure to spread the word about it to all my record-collecting friends. UPDATE: You are calling me a thief and a liar. The woman I had asked about 12" singles did direct me to the $5 bins in the back of the store, but the 12" singles there were all rap, so I moved to the front of the store. There are definitely 12" singles in the $2 bins, if it's still there, you will find one of "The Blue Millionaire" by Marianne Faithfull that I passed on yesterday. read more

Run Out Groove is run by a husband/wife team who not only are passionate about creating a groovy (sic) record shop, but also building a community of music lovers. AKA: They have a Discogs listing but the music in the shop (and customers) come first. The other relevant fact is that they are not typical record shop nerds. They have done other things that make them savvy about running a good business. The records are priced fairly - meaning that if it's rare and in great condition you will pay what it's actually worth. I picked up two Petula Clark Warner Bros. original LP's, an Elton Motello single and Dion singing Purple Haze - all made it to one of my radio shows. The other great thing about the owners having connections are special events like Fred Armisen playing his playlist live. Look for video and a conversation with Mr. A on my radio sites. Back to Run Out Groove. It's added to my list of places I will support - and as many of you know I don't "need" to buy records given my credit at other bigger indie stores in L.A. and other places. Possibly the rudest customer experience I have ever witnessed after being a loyal record shopper for 20+ years. Inquired on a limited RSD pressing and was met with disgust when the owners of this establishment reply to people in condescending manners making a mockery out of people. When I called the store they spoke in a rude manner saying "I know what you called for" and hung up when I asked about the vinyl. After dealing with the rude customer service firsthand, I checked the reviews online and was met by the same comments from others where they treat their customers like garbage. I guess this local record store wants to fail when they are wicked to people who just want to purchase vinyl. read more

One of the owners is always present, which is nice as they are both very knowledgeable about their deep catalog. The store seems to specialize in the classics: A robust variety of classic jazz and rock. A good store to possibly find a rare find. I was impressed by how clean and organized the space was. Besides lots of vinyl, there is a modest offering of music related posters, books and gifts. This store is a real treasure and a nice addition to the Magnolia Park shopping neighborhood... however, as it fronts a side street, it is not easily visible when simply driving down Magnolia Blvd. It's worth the effort to walk the 50 feet up Cordova Street to reach it. read more

Smol but cute record shop with a great selection. Lots of excellent sealed records. Picked up an old Sound of Music soundtrack with its original advertising packed in. Shop owner cleaned the record for me and even pointed out that it had a printing error, making it worth more than how much I paid for it. Swell dude, will be back. This is a neighborhood gem, and my new go-to record shop! The customer service is great! I bought an album. Took it home, but it started skipping. Took the album back. The owners were so kind and helpful! They clued me in on an "old school" tip of taping a penny to the tonearm, this is especially helpful for record players that don't come with a weight on the tonearm. The penny tricked worked! But the best part is that they told me if it didn't work to come back. Friendly customer service is a lost art these days, but not here. Ditch buying your records on Amazon, and come support a local mom-and-pop establishment! read more
