Requested service for what was deemed by homeowner as an issue with the gas-forced furnace…read more(Armstrong), promptly scheduled (1/7/26) and arrived on-time. Conveyed the concern of a loud noise when the furnace first initiates a cycle, continuing, that this noise has never been heard before (10 yrs old) until mid-late December and it gradually has become extremely louder. The young service man shared that he found nothing wrong. He witnessed the "noise" and said it's just a "noisy inducer", sharing there was nothing wrong. I questioned this "new" noise, repeating it has gradually become louder. Again, he assured me everything was ok but offered to replace the inducer if I wished. I advised him that I am not an HVAC person and am relying on his expertise, I'm not looking to replace anything that is not in need of repair. If he says it's good, then I'll take him for his word. Paid the $80 service call charge and he left. I thought about it for a day and was still concerned. I spoke to someone who's family is in the HVAC business (Toledo), they asked their family member who determined from my information, clearly the noise is an indication that something was wrong. I contacted another local (Fremont) HVAC company, they came out the next day (1/9/26) and in a matter of a few minutes, witnessed the "noise" and said they had an idea what it was, and the noise is not normal. They began to look at the furnace, to quickly point out that whoever serviced the furnace last failed to place the door on properly because it wasn't even closed all the way. within 15 minutes they confirmed what they believed it was. It was a bearing. We approved the repair; however the part had to be ordered and would come in on Monday, they'll return and install it. With my original HVAC person retiring, I was pleased to know he would direct me to someone he would trust. Unfortunately for Black Swamp Heating & Cooling, they will not be my future service provider. I can't begin to understand how an HVAC Technician could consider the atrocious noise as being "OK". If he would have inferred some named part is going bad but advised me, I could pay to replace it then or wait until a later date when it actually breaks, I could respect that response. But to share with me that my inducer is just noisy and nothing is wrong, is absurd. I will be sharing my encounter with my semi-retired HVAC person (Steve) so he knows the type of service he is pointing his customers to; I would hope he too would expect better service.
