Our dog has had a history of bad experiences at the vet which makes him difficult to work with. The team at Rum River Veterinary was absolutely fantastic to work with. They are more than accommodating and did their best to make the appointment go smoothly. The staff was so friendly and Dr. Kuebelbeck was incredibly thorough. The cost for certain services was also less than our previous clinic which was a plus! I would recommend Rum River Vet to anyone in the area looking for care for their fur babies! read more

Made an appointment to have our beloved cat put to sleep. Got to the appointment and the vet tech kept asking me multiple questions about her health and this and that. Finally the doctor came in and was asking me the same list of questions and refused to put her to sleep. Apparently they feel like her issue of peeing around the house could be fixed with testing and blah blah blah; it's an avenue we didn't want to go down but they wouldn't budge. The only option other than taking her back home (which we weren't going to do) was to surrender her to them. The only good that came out of all of this was that it didn't cost us anything. But this whole issue was never about money. It's about keeping our house free from urine and getting closure on a loved one that was with us for 9 years. Now who knows what will happen. That sometimes can tend to be even more emotional that putting a cat to sleep. I would not recommend this clinic. It has changed since Dr. Gouck (sp) sold the business. read more

At about 11:00pm I brought my dog into emergency, he had a melanoma in his mouth that doubled in size in less that 12 hrs, he was having trouble breathing. I knew I had to put him down, a very hard decision but I couldn't let him suffer. The staff that was there were absolutely wonderful and caring. My regular vet was making us wait for the treatment he needed, which turned out to be a bad decision for him. After last night I plan to change our Veterinary care to Rum River. Thanks to all the staff that was there for a really great experience for such a bad situation. read more

I no longer recommend this veterinary clinic to any of my family or friends. I was given one price over the phone and was charged ten dollars more and to Dr. Powell needs more education because I was told by so many other veterinarians that hard food can cause a UTI and blockage in male cats and right before Christmas my Maine Coon mix male cat got a UTI and possible blockage the emergency veterinarian said and we were talking about food and she said stop the hard food it can cause this problem in male cats plus we have a vet tech in the family and she said hard food is bad for male cats because it can cause UTIs and a blockage well Dr. Powell just said she never heard of it and rolled her eyes plus never really spent time with him. Plus the glucose check is outrageous thirty two dollars. Yes he is also diabetic and it's like they see money with animals that are. I did find a cheaper veterinarian and was told by so many others that use to go here that Rum River veterinarian is over priced for their services and veterinarians need more education. Rum River was our favorite veterinarian until they got sold and the new owner raised the prices and hired under educated veterinarians. Rum River veterinarian use to cover the exam tables with blankets and they stopped doing that. They don't care about pets but money. I see less and less people going before they got sold the waiting room was full and now you can go it's empty maybe you will see one or two people waiting now. The emergency vet that comes here at 6:00 pm is packed so I hope to see Allied emergency veterinarian buy Rum River veterinarian out. The owner of Rum River is young and needs training how to run a business and to keep prices down. I heard to others had to go find cheaper for their diabetic animals because Rum River is way to expensive for the glucose check and curve check. Plus the person that recommended me to find this cheaper veterinarian that my cat will be going to now on he said his Mom went to Rum River and had to stop because they got over priced and very rude snobby attitude's. We have had dogs and cats loved and cared for by Rum River. We cannot say enough about the veterinarians, tech staff and especially our "go-to" groomer. I've lived in Anoka county for 6 years and this is the best vet I've gone to. I came in 20 minutes early and they got me right into a room to let my cats out of their kennels. They spray a calming spray in the room and my cats loved it! They were rubbing on everything and rolling around on the floor. Dare I say, they had fun at a vet-who knew!The ladies up front, the vet and vet tech were very friendly and gave the kitties compliments. They gave me detailed paperwork and some sample calming wipes for a trip we're taking out of state. Would highly recommend! read more

In my 20+ years of owning pets, I have never been to a vet who gives free check ups...unless it's something like post surgery follow up. I've lived in upstate NY and moved to MN 3 years ago and it's been the same in both states. In fact, check up appointments are significantly cheaper here in MN than in NY. How is the vet supposed to make money? Just through the markup of the medications, vaccines and products they sell? It's a business...not a charity. Having said that, I've been taking my dog to Rum River for 3 years now and have never had a problem. They are great about getting him in on short notice if need be and the staff has always been very pleasant. Even my dog loves them and what dog loves going to the vet? We've had services done ranging from dental surgery/cleanings to tumor removal to vaccinations and routine check ups. They have always been very thorough and explained things well. They even call up afterward to check to see how he's doing. I'd recommend Rum River to anyone looking for a vet. In fact, I just sent my neighbor there last week! read more

We have been going here for 2 years with our 3 dogs. Initially, we really liked going here, but we are switching vets after multiple bad experiences. First off, Dr Smith's bedside manner is AWFUL. We had issues with our 2 dogs getting along and rather than make a recommendation for a trainer she flat our told us to find another home for her. My one dog hates her so much he cowers in her presence. Also, I had an appointment and sat in the room forever because Dr Smith was late to work and then when she did come in, she took her sweet time and chatted with the other staff leaving us to wait even longer. I sent a friend here when she had an emergency with her dog getting kicked in the eye by a horse and they treated her like crap, told her they wouldnt "touch her dog with a 10 ft pole" and the only thing they could do is take it's eye out. She went elsewhere and they were able to save the eye. I felt awful and embarrassed about the way she was treated after I recommended them. They charge an arm and a leg for everything as well, the staff is rude. read more

I was highly disappointed when I brought my sick puppy in to be seen. She was playing in the yard and got a hold of a rabbit. Needless to say she ended up with tape worms. I brought in a fecal sample that the office supposedly tested. The vet told me that she was fine, and that they were going to treat her for three different types of worms just to be safe. I was sure that I saw tapeworm when she went to the bathroom. So I insisted that they go back and check it again. And what do you know, she did have tapeworm! So not only did they misdiagnosed her, but they were going to charge me for 3 different types of antibiotics that she didn't need. They also needed to give her a rabies shot, so they took her from me out of the room, brought her to some back room and supposedly gave her the shot there. All very very shady! I will never take my dog there again! read more

Horrible follow up communication. Shouldn't have to chase them down for lab results (after well over a week) when I was told it would only take a few days. In the meantime my dog is on heavy antibiotics that he doesn't need. Message for a Dr. to call me back still unreturned 2 days later. I think they've adopted Canada's approach to healthcare. read more

Dr M is compassionate, professional and no one will love your pets more than her (besides you, of course). We have been bringing various pets here for at least 20 years, even before they moved to the current building. They have always been caring and helpful. When one of my cats got a bad infection from a scratch a doctor and a tech stayed after the clinic closed to lance and clean the wound. We tried another vet closer to home when we moved, but we quickly went back to Rum River. read more
