The infamous zombie.
Jana P.

This place was a good time! I had almost everything on the menu and really liked it...minus the jerk chicken tacos, IDK something went wrong there. HOWEVER, the bartender was friendly and attentive. He was a little delayed in making the drinks but to my understanding it was only his second shift. I had the calamari, the jerk chicken tacos, the spiced mussels, the voodoo shrimp, and the churros for dessert. SHUT UP...DON'T JUDGE ME OK THEY WERE TAPAS! All of the dishes were beyond my expectations. TBH, I was in the middle of Amsterdam looking for a Caribbean restaurant I really didn't expect it to even taste anything like the Caribbean food back home. To tell you the truth it wasn't. It wasn't like your little Caribbean spot down the block, but it did have FLAVORS. The food had so much flavor! Caribbean spices were definitely on fleek. Again though, skip the jerk chicken tacos (and yes I took off a whole entire star for this. You must know and understand jerk chicken if you are a Caribbean restaurant IDC). I had the zombie, which was a drink that I was warned about by the bartender. He said verbatim: "are you sure you want this because it is a lot of liquor and it's very strong". My reply: "I hear you...pour it up". He poured that thang and lit fire to the pomegranate that included a shot and was placed on the top of my drink. The drink was strong but was a sneaker...you know the drinks that taste really good but you won't feel the liquor until later? So as I let that soak a little I began to enjoy the ambience as well. Old school fresh Bob Marley music flowing, decorated like a nice beach house somewhere off the island, with a great group of patrons and workers. I had a great time here. Once I was ready to leave I literally almost bust my ass sliding off the chair. That is when I realized the zombie has taken over.

All the rum you can dream of plus amazing cocktails, the tapas menu looks good and I will have to try some of it next time, the atmosphere is great and there's out door seating available for summer months

Excellent selection of rums. Expert bartender. Calamaris like you never had before. Absolute pearl. One not to miss.

Great place for rum and tiki cocktail lovers! Stumbled on this place just by accident and really didn't expect much but this place is a true cocktail gem! The bar has a great atmosphere and a nice variety of rums. You can be sure you get a proper tiki cocktail. Can also try a crazy zombie cocktail with 4 shots of rum (1 per person only). The food was also lovely, simple but with a nice twist. We enjoyed quesadillas and muscles cooked in species and rum. If I was to open a tiki cocktail bar one day, it will be very like Rum Barrel!

During my favorite visits, the bartenders explain each drink you order as they serve it and tell you the story. Every drink has a story. Sometimes they are busy or not interested and you don't get the story. I wouldn't have noticed that the drink tastes like a salad, and not in the bad way, had the bartender not told me the story. A couple of times I asked if they have merch for sale and one time they had pins which I bought. The next time I came, they were out of both pins and shirts. Bummer. I recommend a visit when you're looking for a cool place in Amsterdam, especially when you are staying at the hotel.

The decor was very nice as well. I didn't try any food there. Now it comes to the important part of the review. It's all about the cocktails. I got the Beeswax Old Fashioned(17 Euros). It was very good and a nice twist on an old fashioned. My second drink was the Paradiso Manhattan(17 Euros) and it was a tasty cocktail with something extra. It came with a piece of chocolate that was made with mushroom powder. They paired well together. I can't give it five stars for one reason. The drinks were very good, but they were a little weak. I felt very little to nothing after my second drink. I'm not a big drinker and I have a low tolerance for alcohol. The drinks need to be a little stronger. More of a kick to them. I would still recommend Super Lyan to anyone that has the pleasure of visiting Amsterdam on holiday.

At most of my favourite cocktail bars the cocktails are very expensive and Henry's is just a bit cheaper: nice! The cocktails are also delicious and come in generous amounts, without that much ice (I hate it when a cocktails has way too much ice!). So very yummy and a good price. There are also many other drinks and nice wines, shots so there is something here for everyone. Henry's also quite a few has snacks and bites. We had the veggies with dips, which was a nice, fresh and healthy choice. The staff at this place is very friendly and happy, I really liked them. The whole place looks so nice as well. The cute vintage chairs and little tables, the big couches. Great place for sitting, drinking and chatting with friends. You can also sit on the terrace if the weather is nice, but I prefer to sit inside because of the pretty interior (and the cool wall art!). The photos I took of this place were made on a weekday afternoon when Henry's was not open, so you cant really see how nice and cosy it is by night. I think this might be my new favourite place! Also, if you're getting tired of cocktails you can just go to Bar Bukowski, which is also super fun. Remember: Henry's is only open on Friday and Saturday nights.

I've been to many of the cocktail bars in Amsterdam and please allow me to explain why I like this place over the others. It IS why you are reading this review now, toch?! Simply put, this place takes out the super fancy smancy egg white foamy flamed distilled in diamond barrels Himalayan berry extract bio purple cucumber drinks and instead sticks with the classics. Moscow Mule, Dark and Stormy, Hugo, and so on and so forth. The place and people are humble, gezellig and I feel like it's a place to just chill and drink some highly alcoholic drinks! No need to wear a tight mini skirt, make a special VIP reservation just to get in; no, just walk on in and ask your friendly bartenders, with stylish leather aprons, to help enhance your night with a nice mixed drink. And when you take away all the smoke and curtains, you can expect better prices! I never paid more than 7.50 for a cocktail that actually had more drink in it than ice. Vesper Bar used to be my fave Amsterdam cock-joint, but I'm afraid I've fallen in love when a man named Henrrrrry! Oh and the bartender with the Amsterdam XXX symbol on is right bicep is hipster hot. Apple Maps told me we were less than 1/2 mile away so we headed over there. Located just off a canal on a pedestrian walkway basically at the start of the Red Light District, we arrived soon after they opened and got a nice table near the bar. Forget ordering what you usually drink- the menu has dozens of concoctions most of which looked real good. I ordered a "T&S Old Fashion and my wife had "The Girl Next Door". Both were drink types we usually don't order but we loved them enough to order another round. Speaking of the menu-it's pretty entertaining besides all the drink choices. Also entertaining was watching the bartenders making the drinks with a huge flair of showmanship. Music tracks were great as well. Could have just stayed to listen to the music. The food options looked tasty as well but we were still full from lunch so we just opted to drink. By the time we left, Tales was pretty full. A fun place to come back to and recommend to friends.

The place was small but adds to the charm. Nice decor and friendly service. We each had 2 cocktails and split an order of Bitterballen and Truffle Risotto. I would definitely recommend for a cocktail before/after dinner or if you're looking for some appetizers/small plates. Great spot.

We ordered beef bitterballen to try this traditional Dutch comfort food. Meanwhile, my husband ordered their signature cocktail called "Beurre Noisette" old fashioned and I ordered a Dutch Negroni (Negronis are my favorite drink to order wherever I go). Both were delicious! Meanwhile, we chatted with Iago the bartender, and Lily the manager. We learned more about Amsterdam and why so many people come here from elsewhere in Europe to work. Iago was super fun to talk to. He'd lived in Amsterdam for 7 years and It was only his first week here at NJoy. He was skilled as a bartender, being able to mix fabulous cocktails and also hold an interesting conversation at the same time. We'd go back just to be able to talk with him again, such a friendly bartender, very attentive, and professional. The beef bitterballen was so hot we had to wait a bit to try it. It comes with savory mustard that is better than any mustard I've tried before. Not sure why. The bitterballen were crispy fried with beef ragú inside. I'm not a fan myself but am glad I tried it. NJoy is elegant and romantic and cozy. There's another bar downstairs with a disco ball above. It would be fantastic to host a celebration event here. Their cocktails are memorable!
