If you want a genuine American wild west experience which gives you just enough adrenaline to keep you on the edge but makes you feel safe and well cared for, Rugg's Outfitting is the right place and Kip the right guide! I wanted to give my Scottish cousin who came to visit us in Missoula an unforgettable experience. She's an experienced rider and 15 years younger than me so I was understandably wary of joining the tour thinking that I might keep them back. Kip understood my concerns and assured me he has the perfect horse to match to every type of rider. I can't thank Kip enough for choosing Highway for me! Highways was very careful of me, took to the trail with a sure foot, avoided the tree trunks and NEVER showed any sign that he would get spooked and take off with me (or without me) which was my biggest fear. I learned to trust my horse and my ability to hold on and rely on his instincts and enjoyed an amazing experience that I would have sorely missed had I not trusted Kip and his expertise in dealing with skittish tourists and steady horses on a wild and scenic trail. For 4 hours, which felt much shorter, we climbed a rugged ridge that felt like we were Wild West pioneers discovering a new world. Even my experienced rider cousin couldn't stop saying WOW! Thank you, Kip, for taking such great care of me and my cousin and for giving us an unforgettable adventure! I look forward to our next adventure with you and your amazing horses! read more

I recently had an amazing half day horse trail ride that exceeded my expectations in every way. The horses were not only beautiful but also well-behaved, making the ride smooth and enjoyable for everyone. The staff, including Kip, Ray, and Elijah, were fantastic. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. They gave clear instructions before we set off, which helped even beginners like me feel confident. The property we rode through was stunning! We explored the forest and an open meadow. We never once felt unsafe on their horses. And to top it off, the ranch dogs were absolutely adorable and added to the charm of the experience. One even followed us for awhile as we headed on our ride. Overall, this horse trail ride was a wonderful adventure. The horses were great, the staff was friendly and helpful, the scenery was breathtaking, and the ranch dogs were a delightful bonus. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy nature and spend time with amazing horses. We are already talking about our plans to come back. You won't be disappointed!!! read more

We made Ruggs Outfitting our overnight stop while hauling our horse from Western Washington to Southwestern Montana. Kip and Dane greeted with a smile, a warm handshake, and alfalfa for our horse. The pen was set for our arrival, clean with good fencing, fresh water and a shelter. Our horse settled in nicely and enjoyed being able to stretch his legs after eight hours traveling in the trailer. The fresh green snacks growing in his paddock received 5 out of 5 stars per his equine palate. Having our horse settled, it was time to go our cabin. I especially appreciated that I could see my horse from where we were staying. The cabin was WONDERFUL! Comfortable beds, cozy decor, jaw dropping views of the river and mountains. Everything was tidy, clean and welcoming. I can't say enough how much I recommend Ruggs Outfitters. Kip and Teresa with their team exemplify hospitality, professionalism with generations of experience and a true love of their animals. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. This is a beautiful location. We look forward to visiting Ruggs again. read more

I honestly loved this horseback riding experience in with Rugg's Outfitting so much. It felt like the real West in the best possible way - wide open land, beautiful views, fresh air, and just that peaceful feeling you can't really explain unless you're there. The horses were amazing, gentle, and clearly well cared for. There was something really special about being out there riding through Montana nature that made me slow down and appreciate everything for a minute. It felt freeing, grounding, and unforgettable. Everyone should experience something like this at least once in their life. If you're anywhere near Superior, do it. read more

I give Rugg's Outfitting a 10 star rating! Everything has been perfect since the beginning! Booking couldn't have been easier! My husband and I stayed in a cabin by the lake and enjoyed a 1/2 day trail ride. We will be bringing our kids and all of our friends and family back for more of the Rugg's experience. It is obvious the Rugg's family is NOT in this business for the $$ because the prices for their fully stocked, riverside cabin, with its own washer/dryer & kitchen are simply unbelievable! From our experience, I can't see how anybody could be disappointed with Rugg's Outfitting!!! I look forward to many more adventures! read more

We have rented a riverside cabin with Teresa at Rugg's Outfitting twice now and let this be your sign to book with them! The cabin is outstandingly cozy, comfortable and clean and has all the amenities of a 5 star hotel- and then some, with the added bonus of being right on the beautiful Clark Fork River. Beautiful decor and very comfortable beds! Teresa went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable stay and was great at communicating with us. What a beautiful, peaceful location that really is a little slice of heaven. Their outfitters also offer horseback trail rides and we look forward to booking someday read more

My family and I really enjoyed the whole experience, the ride up and down a mountain that took us to a mining location was really beautiful to view. Our tour guide named Kipp, is a great guy, fun to be around, patient, and really helpful to those who's their first time riding a horse. All 6 horses I met on this occasion had their own personalities and it was heartwarming to get a small connection with them throughout this experience. So if you ever get the chance to meet Missy, Boots, Hobo, Tater Tots, Jammer, and Small fries to be your horse for the day, you'll most certainly enjoy this ride. read more

Kip guided my 19-year-old daughter and I for an evening trail ride on our overnight stay in one of their riverfront cabins. Can't say enough how great of a guide he was for my horse nervous self and my horse loving daughter. He matched the perfect horse for each of us and was an absolute pleasure to be guided by. We loved that the ride took us up and down the forested hills and allowed us to truly appreciate the skill of both the horses and Kip as a guide. He went above and beyond to give us a cherished, memorable ride! Would highly, highly recommend booking with Kip!!! read more

Kip guided us on trail rides two days in a row. We had a marvelous time with Kip and his horses. The horses are reliable and steady for newbie riders. Kip took us on some amazing trails with beautiful views. This wasn't a boring flat road nose to tail trail ride. We traversed some challenging terrain. Kip provided a wealth of information about Montana flora and fauna. I highly recommend Rugg's Outfitting and Kip Rugg. You can't go wrong spending a couple of hours riding with Kip on his horses. read more

Amazing is the perfect word for our trail ride. They will custom tailor a ride based on your experience & comfort level so be honest. Not having a huge deal of experience mountain riding this ride was exciting, beautiful and just the right amount of challenge for us. Kip made us feel 100% comfortable & safe on our mounts prior to leaving. Elijah pointed out all the sights and filled us in on the fun facts of the countryside. We will DEFINITELY be back to enjoy another great day. read more

Kip is the real deal, and the personification of Montana outdoors. My son and I spent the cold April morning with him up in heavy timber navigating through a game trail, along with his three hounds, and had the best time! Kip's horses, Hamilton and Ivy, were stable and sturdy on wet ground and over felled logs. I'd recommend Kip to anyone interested in experiencing the real outdoors on horseback! read more

Booked a half day summer trail ride fairly last minute for me and my parents and we had a blast. They were very nice and accommodating over the phone. Kip was a great guide and very knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed the beautiful views and getting the opportunity to talk to a local rancher. The horses were great and the trail was decently maintained. Will definitely recommend this to friends! read more

Had a great two night stay at the Ruggs cabins, including 2 guided rides. A half day ride just off the property and an incredible full day up to a lake. Kip was kind, knowledgeable, and fun to spend the day with. The cabins were cozy and rustic between the train tracks and the river. Not to mention the fields of horses you're surrounded by. Would recommend, would go again!! read more

I would go back again!! Kip who was our guide and Ray who I spoke with on the phone were both nice people. I loved the fact that we were not forced to stay in a straight line during the ride and especially LOVED being able to run the horse near the end of the ride!!!! I had never gone fast before and this was the best part of the whole ride. Thank you for a great time read more

We went on a trail ride this morning with Kip Rugg. He is sweet, funny, patient and very knowledgeable of the mountain. I haven't been on a horse in years and he made it fun and relaxing. He tolerated the humor of 4 women very well and at times added to it. I can't wait to come back and spend more time here. This was a much needed break in the place. read more
