Sit back, grab a drink, and let me explain to you what in the world Rugged Wearhouse it. It is not so much "rugged" as the name implies, but more like super sketchy, but wonderfully awesome. It is located in a row of buildings which were last bustling around the time Nixon resigned. This particular row of buildings consists of a decent bookstore, the filthiest K-mart on the planet, and some sort of government work agency. If you're the proud driver of something like a Prius, I'd recommend driving super carefully in the parking lot, lest your car be eaten up by a giant pothole.Don't worry too much about parking. They haven't painted new parking lot lines since you were wearing stirrup pants and belting Cyndi Lauper into a hairbrush. There may or may not be people asking you for money for bus fare in the parking lot. Nevertheless, I still feel safe going there alone during the day.
Now, onto the store itself. This place sells things that were put on clearance by retail stores but never sold, overstocks, and returns. You certainly want to wash everything you buy here before you wear it, but I have never once encountered anything that was nasty. There is an assortment of clothing and shoes for men, women, teens, and children, as well as a few home goods. The selection is constantly changing. They sell many "name brands" here. I've picked up Ann Taylor jeans for $10, Banana Republic shirts for $6, and lesser known brands for well under $10. They even had some Anthropoligie clothing last time I was there. They also have shoes, including Nike tennis shoes. Just be aware that a lot of the tags have either been snipped through or marked through to prevent them from being returned to the original store. Rarely do I walk away empty handed from this place. And the best thing is, even if you buy a few things, you probably won't walk away devoid of cash either.
This place isn't the cleanest, the shiniest, or even the friendliest, but you're not at a boutique. Go in, dig through the racks, beg for a dressing room key, and be on your way with you new clothes. read more
