I had seen so many TV ads about Grand Home Furniture, that today when I saw one about their…read moreLa-Z-Boy recliners at 50% Off Sale, I decided to drop by the store to check it out. After being awarded the Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Grand Home Furniture in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Located off Valley View Blvd almost across the street from Longhorn Steakhouse, this furniture store is one of the largest that I have ever seen. Many people are intimidated by the humongous size of this furniture store and its magestic entrance, and have never dared to enter the place. But because of its size, it also has a large selection of furniture of all prices and a large sales force that have been trained in Sales and are waiting patiently near the entrance to go after the first customer that comes in through the entrance. This can be a little intimidating to some people. Arriving around mid-afternoon, there were plenty of salespersons waiting at the door. The first one to reach me was one named Royce. He was very friendly and greeted me with a smile. I told him that I had heard about their La-Z-Boy 50% Off Sale and was looking for a nice leather recliner to watch TV comfortably at home. The Salesman was very knowledgeable about La-Z-Boy recliners because he was transferred from their Tanglewood Store a couple of weeks ago and yet he knew where to go to show me La-Z-Boy's best leather recliner. He asked me to try it out and showed me how the remote control worked. He then went about showing me a couple of other recliners to compare with the first one. Definitely, the first one was the most comfortable of them all. I asked him for the measurements of the recliner so I could see if it would fit in my space. He showed me the slip that had this information andvI took a photo of it. Then I asked him to write down the total cost for me with the 50% discount, taxes, and delivery fee of $150. Either he was not listening well to my request or didn't feel comfortable with numbers, because he brought back his card with one total price on it. Before I left he gave me another of his business cards and asked me to go back to him if I decided to purchase this item. I told him I much appreciated his time and that I would. As a former Professor of Salesman, it was interesting the different techniques that he used to get me to purchase this item today, but the most important of all, to listen, he neglected. But that's alright, without the benefit of a college education. He did his best, and if I decide to purchase the recliner, I go to him for his effort. I definitely recommend this furniture store for its variety of furniture of all price categories and quality, the beautiful display rooms, and the excellent customer service details that they have with their customers, like offering them something to drink, giving them a period where they can return the item if they don't like it for a refund, and a 5 year period of repairing anything wrong with the product.

Locally owned since 1995, their Flagship Showroom covers 10,000 square feet of the highest quality American-made and some fine-quality import furniture, mattresses, and accessories. I happened to discover their store one evening after coming back from watching a movie at the Historic Grandin Theatre, walking down the sidewalk of Grandin Road. The store was closed at that time but I remember looking inside their store windows and seeing some of the nicest, fine craftsmanship and beautifully designed furniture that I had ever since in a while. And I know a little about genuine luxury furniture. During the time I went to college in Boston and Cambridge, I took some elective courses in the History of Art and the History of Furniture. Then after years passed, when faced with furnishing my reasantly purchased five bedroom house, I researched and studied the highest quality brands and had my living room sofa custom made at Century Furniture. Soon afterwards, the night that I was exposed to this furniture store, I had an opportunity of visiting the store in person and meeting with the extremely nice owners who personally hand-select the high-quality American-made fine furniture and accessories. I also had an opportunity of meeting and talking to some of their knowledgeable sales staff and interior designers, who were also very friendly and kind. I invite all those reading this review to look at my photographs accompanying this review and see for yourselves the beautiful future they have on display. And then go give them a visit. From all that I have seen and experienced, I highly recommend this furniture store for all those looking for high quality, genuine wood furniture, with fine craftsmanship, and beautiful design. On top of this you get experienced interior designers who can help you select the appropriate items to create a beautiful and comfortable space in which to enjoy quality time with your family and close friends. And to top it off you get outstanding customer service.

In regard to a separate review about the "store manager" Jason -- Jason has never been store…read moremanager for Joann Fabrics, and he no longer works for them in this location. I am a frequent customer to this store. They have moved to a much larger location next to the New River Valley Mall, and the store has finally been given the staff numbers that it's needed for years. Like all chain stores, customers need to keep in mind that staffing, and availability of products, etc., are all at the mercy of the ever present, and endlessly disappointing "Corporate" offices. This store has a manager, and an assistant manager that work tirelessly and thanklessly to keep the store in a clean and well organized condition as best they can. Because they are paid salary, sometimes coming into the store and working without being paid because "Corporate" will not allow them anymore employees on the payroll. That alone speaks to the dedication these ladies put into a company that would without hesitation replace them with a blink because they are only names and store numbers on a piece of paper. With Hobby Lobby coming into the area, JAF Corporate must have decided it was finally time to move these well-deserving ladies into a bigger, better building and offer more products to compete. Because money talks, BS walks. So, thank you, Hobby Lobby, for the competition and the kick in the pants this company needed to better itself and be better for their customers. Otherwise, JAF Corporate would have allowed this store to waste and rot away in a dilapidated plaza that has been next to nearly empty for over a decade. Customers who come into ANY business need to keep in mind that it isn't easy working with the general public. Our current state of society has become irritatingly "instant gratification", and most these days walk around with a scumbag sense of entitlement that is grossly misplaced nor earned. Employees are bound by the rules Corporate lays down, and while you may be inconvenienced for a moment, employees will not take the chance of losing their jobs so that you can believe you've had a good day. Just be patient and realize that not everything is always about you. Take any and all online reviews of businesses with a grain of salt, and a side of reality. You can't make everyone happy, and most times, it won't matter how hard you try. For you employees that have to deal with the general public, keep in mind that there are some of us that have also had to deal with the GP, and we understand your plight, your patience, your work ethic, and your dedication to the company you're employed by - because the company won't care, but a certain faction of your customers do.
