They do a great job, but this time added an additional $300 for "restore & redye" - although I had not requested this. In short, the 2 rugs cost over $1000.00 to clean. Ironically, it would have been about $750 less expensive to toss these and buy them new again. This type of unauthorized upsell, without prior approval or so much as a phone call to discuss, is disgustingly unethical. Horrible experience!!!! I had three rugs cleaned. These were oriental rugs. The owner picked them up and told me himself that they dipped them and rake them and let them dry. There was no soap applied to their process. When the rugs were returned. They had to be Re-cleaned by another company because they left soap in the rugs which attracted more dirt. I had to pay to have the rugs cleaned twice. Save yourself the headache and the money and find someone else to clean your oriental rugs. The owner also took one of my rugs on consignment. I called the store owner a few Months later to check to see if the rug had been sold. The the owner let me know they had moved to a new location and the rug had not yet been sold. STAY AWAY!! Sayeed is a scam artist. He comes to your home with all good intentions of helping you to consign your rug. He takes a credit card "in case your rug requires any cleaning or repairs" which he says he will get your authorization for first before charging. He calls a few days later and lo and behold your rug needs to be cleaned and requires thousands in repairs before he can sell it. Of course this is unacceptable and I tell him so. He gets angry and loud on the phone and then he hangs up on me. He blocks my calls for several days. I finally get him by calling from another number. He tells me he will return my rug on Friday, he never does. I go to his store to pick up my rug. I squeeze it into my car and leave. The following month there is a charge on my credit card for almost $600. I have no idea why. This guy is exactly why rug dealers have the reputation they have, I am sure there are many honest hard working respectable rug merchants in Orange County, Sayeed and Rug Design Gallery ARE NOT ONE OF THEM. Horrible experience owner took two rugs to clean ruined both of them over cleaning with holes in them, stretched out, over processed and disintegrated the grey and white wool rug turned it to dust with bubbles, stretched borders, holes and totally bleached out with chemical discoloring around the edges. Stay away from this "business". I brought my rug to this shop in order to sell it on consignment. I had a recent valuation from an out of state shop which appraised the rug at $4700. I spoke with the owner, Saied, on the phone and he asked me to bring the rug to his shop so he could inspect it. I came to his shop and he inspected my rug in the parking lot behind his shop and he appeared to be quite knowledgeable about the type of rug I had. He opined that it was worth 25K but not in the condition it was in, rather, he would need to wash and "restore" it first. The rug had already been washed the year before and it had been kept clean and safe so I was uncertain why it would need to be washed and restored again, but, naively, I trusted Saied because he represented he would be able to sell it on consignment for 25K, but only if he was allowed to wash and restore it. Otherwise it would sell at a much lower rate. I was induced by his representation of its worth to pay 5K to wash and restore the rug, thinking that I would earn a profit by doing so. I gave him my credit card and he ran a 5K charge and gave me a receipt showing charges for washing, restoration and "fumigation". He told me that after the work had been completed he would display the rug in his showroom and also explained the terms of how any consignment would work. I left the shop feeling good that I had made a good decision to work with him. Several days later, I followed up with him to check on the rug and he informed that the washing and restoration were completed and he had the rug on display and on his website. Four months went by and I again followed up with him to check on the status of the rug and he advised there had been no offers for the rug. I told him that I would like to come back and pick up the rug and take it to another dealer where I would have a better chance of success in selling the rug. He did not appear surprised by what I said and had the rug ready for me when I returned to his shop. He again told me that the rug had been washed and restored and that it was very valuable and that I should not accept less than 20K owing to its fine condition and old age. I thanked him and left his shop with my rug. Several days later, I took the rug to another rug dealer in Orange County who had been in business for over 3 decades and told him that I had just got the rug back from Saied's shop where had been no movement on a consignment sale. The dealer told me he was familiar with him and his deceptive conduct. I showed him my rug and he opined that it was old and in good shape but that it was not nearly as valuable as I had been told, he had several similar rugs in stock and that it was worth no more that $4500 and that he would buy it from me for $1500. He told me that Saied has a very poor reputation among rug dealers and that one of his own clients had already been taken in by him and ripped off. He explained that Saied will over-value the worth of the rug in order to entice the owner to pay for over-priced and un-needed restoration work so that he can then in turn attempt to sell the rug(s) on consignment. The dealer told me that what happened to me was not unique and that he had heard this same story before. I left his shop feeling very deflated and aggravated at how I had been taken in by Saied. I thereafter mailed a certified letter to Saied asking for a refund of the monies I had needlessly spent on his washing and restoration and that the rug was not even worth what he had charged me to clean it. Of course he has not responded and I am now left to consider my next steps in seeking a refund of my monies. Bait-and-Switch, Dishonesty, Aggressiveness. SHAMEFUL!!! My wife called the owner Saeed and asked if they can sell our valuable collection of Persian carpets and they set up an appointment for him to visit our home to appraise the carpets and explain how their program to sell them. When Saeed visited our home after I return from my trip abroad, he proceeded to wrap the carpets with his assistant and load in his truck. He said they would need to wash them first but I said no need as they had been washed a year earlier and are in perfect condition. He wrote us a receipt for the carpets adding that the cost of washing is $4.99/square foot but never explained how he plans to display the carpets in his showroom but that they will take photos and advertise in their website. It was strange why he would take them to his showroom if he was not planning to show them. When I went to his shop in San Clemente on Saturday August 22 with my wife and our 10-year old twins, he showed us the carpets in his parking lot and said they will start washing them, take photos, wrap them then give them back to us for storage until a customer will call to buy them. Until that point he did not give us any value for the carpets and I had difficulty believing that someone buying a $10,000 carpet will order just by seeing it on the website. I told him that we will not accept to pay the washing fees as we never requested it and it comes to over $3000 for the total carpets. It was then that all hell broke loose and he became aggressive and told me that he will not keep the carpet in his showroom, or sell them for us and that we need to remove the carpets from his parking lot immediately. He also demanded a $250 pick up charge which we never requested in the first place. He asked me to go rent a truck immediately and my wife and kids will wait in the showroom until I came back and picked up the carpets. He became so angry with me and my wife that my little girl started crying thinking that he will hurt us! I threatened him to go to the police station to complain but as I had my SUV with me, my wife and I packed the carpets in it without his help or his employees help and he demanded that I sign the receipt but didn't let me keep my copy of it, yet I was able to get a picture of it. The moral of the story is, he was trying to get us to use his carpet washing service under false pretense that he is helping us sell the carpets. I am still so angry and considering to file a complaint against this kind of commercial cheating and for the duress and stress that he caused me and my family. read more

This rating is for rug cleaning only, not rug sales. This establishment is very close to where we live. We like to support local business. We were over charged. I accept partial responsibility here. I should have gotten a written quote first. I should have price compared with other businesses. We took a 7.5' round rug in to be cleaned. When we picked it up we were charged $281.60. The invoice stated that it was $3.99 per sq ft. Doing the math, it should have been $176.27. This price is still $25 - $50 higher than what we later got quotes for from services that actually come to the home to clean the same size rug (we had to bring our rug to Rug Design Gallery.) The owner Sam is the most unprofessional business person I have ever dealt with. I called him to get pricing on rug cleaning and he gave me the price. A few weeks later I call him from another cell phone (I use two for work) as I had lost my notes and needed to confirm. Fast forward a couple days and I'm having breakfast with my wife and Sam the owner is calling me and using very foul language towards me and accusing me of playing games with him. I was very happy with the timely and professional workmanship from this establishment. I had a large wool rug(12 by 14 ft) which I wanted cut into three separate rugs, each a different size, with the edges finished(binded) on each. I was pleasantly surprised that the manager had experience with rug resizing and he provided pricing over the phone. My rug was picked up the day after my inquiry, hand cleaned beautifully, and cut perfectly to the dimensions I provided. WHY did I NOT read these reviews before having this crazy man in my house to clean a rug that we loved that is now completely ruined. He is a complete lunatic. Had him come to pick up a rug to clean which he promised to clean by machine and it would look great. He also wanted to bring rugs by our home and show us as he said "all of our rugs were inferior and we should consider replacing". We were happy with most our rugs but agreed to look at a few rugs. Yes, he started off very friendly and appearing as if he was wanting to help us. We were very clear when he picked up our rug as to what would happen when he returned it, and he agreed to place it in the room where it would go. He took the pad with the rug when he took it to clean it and said he would return it. He did not return with the rug pad. He said he would charge us $675 to clean the rug which we thought was very expensive but we loved the rug and wanted to use it so we accepted the charge as he said it would be like new. He then charged us $725 which was never discussed. When challenged he said he refund the overcharge but never did. He called to say the rug was ready but he had to use dye on the rug in places and that if we were not happy then he would refund the cleaning fee with the purchase of another rug. We had never discussed using dye of any sort so we were very alarmed. He assured us the rug looked great and we would see.... When he showed up to return the rug, he wanted to first show his rugs, (our first mistake) we should have made him bring our rug in first, but we agreed to let him bring his rugs in. He said he needed 15 minutes to place the rugs. We had two other contractors at the house and we were not paying a lot of attention as to what he was doing (another mistake we made, DO NOT LET THIS GUY IN YOUR HOME). Next thing we knew he was pulling up our rugs, loading them on his truck and placing his rugs all over our house. When we questioned him, he said he would store our rugs while we kept his for a few days and viewed them. I absolutely refused this and told him we would make a call immediately today and to unload our rugs immediately. I had no idea he intended to pull out our rugs and would never have allowed him to do so had I known what he intended to do. We did not like any of his rugs with the exception of a couple, but as we had already told him, we were pretty happy with our rugs, even though he thought they were inferior, and weren't interested in purchasing any of his rugs at this time. By now he had given us such an uneasy feeling that we just wanted to be done. We asked him to bring in our rug and that we needed to wrap it up that we had been doing this now for more than 2 hours when he had said he only needed 15 minutes. He said fine and then asked if he could put our rug in the garage! I said no we had agreed he would place the rug in our family rug and that is what we expected. He begrudgingly did so, rushing around and in the process scratched our hardwood floors by dragging the sofa...and then it all became very clear why he had delayed the bringing in of our rug...it was literally ruined. It literally looks like he cleaned it with bleach and strip the silk rug of its rich colors and leaving peachy white stains in areas where the rug should be grey, much like if you spilled bleach on a black shirt. It was literally unbelievable. He refused to discuss it. Became very belligerent saying it wasn't his fault, we would have to take it up with the rug manufacturer, told me to shut up and sign for it. I refused and told him to get his crap rugs and get out of my house. He finally leaves. Then later that evening he texts a mechanic's lien saying he left one of his rugs at our house, that we distracted him and if we do not return it he will put a lien on our house. I call him immediately to discuss and he then says he left two rugs at our house, which he did not. He starts cussing and ranting at me saying we took advantage of him and he wasted all his time at our house when he should have been at his store. This guy is the most repulsive business person I have dealt with. Do NOT let him in your home. He will clearly come off charming, and then when things do not go as he would like, you decide you do not want any of his rugs, he will turn on a dime. He destroyed a $3600 rug, and clearly knew he did so. To have our rug ruined we were also charged $725 instead of $675. He's dishonest and completely not reputable. His name is Saeid Boustanabadi. If you are looking for an area rug dealer with a dual personality, look no further than the Rug Design Gallery. Saeid would appear charming and accommodating and, at the point of sale, he would offer you everything you want to hear, including a full refund, if you're not completely satisfied with your purchase. He would even give you another rug as a gift, for which you would not ask, but he would bring it in, on his own initiative. However, by accepting a gift, you would just open an opportunity for him to "dress up" every room in your home, whether you want it or not. Don't be surprised if his rugs have unpleasant odors of wet animal fur or mildew, and don't be shocked by his 180 degree personality turn around, if you request a refund, as promised. The latter would be due to the unpleasant strong odor overnight of your new rug purchased from him. Yes, he would become completely unglued, have a screaming fit and accuse you of causing him "terrible turbulence in his business" and in making a hole in his other rug, which he would insist on leaving with you overnight. Of course, you would never get a refund for your smelly purchase, but you would encounter a top-level Hollywood act, the purpose of which is to shock and intimidate you, and while you're completely stunned by his shouting, while trying to figure-out what is going on, he directs his assistant to grab his other rugs, including "the one he gave you as a present", and rush out of the door, leaving you with your purchase, which he had promised to refund. If you hire him to clean your area rugs, be aware that the rugs will come back moist, smelly (even if they had no odor before his "cleaning") and all covered with dark dirt particles, making dirt all over the floor beneath the rug. It would not be rolled up in plastic, as it should be, and afterwards you would have to take your "newly-cleaned" rugs to a professional dry-cleaning place. Sayeed is a top notch Rug expert. He has a love for the art of rug making that is entrancing. Buying Persian rugs is an adventure! In Sayeed's shop you are transported around the world and into Iran. He has some unique rugs for sure! After purchasing rugs overseas I was able to get them cleaned and prepared for mounting in addition to a third party appraisal. He was able to asses my purchases and show me where I did well and where I bought a lesser rug with a side by side comparison. In addition to all of that, I had several rugs mounted at no charge. He personally cam to my house and assessed the requirements. The rugs were mounted quickly and professionally by a man who has been working for Sayeed for 10 years! I learned later that the manager, Saeid Maralan, is the former manager at the Laguna Beach rug store Sirous and Sons Rug Gallery. There are multiple articles on him online, and LA Times. The low ratings seem harsh compared to our experience with the Rug Design Gallery. Perhaps it is due to the failure of the customer to fully understand the businesses written service agreement. Free pick-up doesn't mean free pick-up AND free delivery. We have found the multiple communications by phone and, by text to be more than what one might expect from a business and this is a positive. I believe they have been in business for several decades at their location and this doesn't happen if they treat consumer's in the manner several of the posters have described. read more

I've been to the Rug Gallery several times for cleaning and purchasing. Whenever I have the chance to chat with the owner, he always tries to tell the stories of the rug. Not the rug in and of itself, but the people that made the rug. He talks about the time involved, the traditions that are passed down. Last time my husband went in to drop off a piece of a very nice rug that the previous owners of our house left in the crawl space, he refused to cut the rug to make the sides even. He wanted to preserve as much of it as possible to preserve its history. Each rug has a story. In fact, he sent my husband home with a huge book on Persian rugs with amazing details and photographs of the history of rug making. What a treasured book. After reading through it, I better understood his passion for rugs and his respect for the many many people that poured their lives into rug making. Owner said he'd come inspect rugs for $100 and do an appraisal, though he usually charged nearly as much for each rug to be appraised. He was charming and seemed knowledgeable, convincing me that he thought my lot was worth about $15,000. I was floored. He was willing for $900 in cleaning to take them on commission for sale. He allowed that he might sometimes have to present me an offer a little below listed price, but said that $15,000 or thereabouts was very feasible. Distrusting, I said I'd need to think about it. I read reviews. There are over 20 ratings at #1 on Yelp (BAD), and very bad ratings at Better Business Bureau. I searched ratings for other well regarded oriental carpet cleaning professionals and found one which got all positive results. Chatting on the phone, they deal with people who have been "taken to the cleaners" all of the time. This second group seemed knowledgeable and credible. When they saw my rugs, they offered a good number of hundreds of dollars less to clean, and suggested that though these were mainly good rugs, $15,000 would only be possible in the highest end gallery, and that rug stores, which like to pay 1/7 of what they can sell for would offer less than $5000 for my lot.
