Last night we biked out to Espace Public in Hochelaga, near Antidote and Acme, and a raft of other old school tavernes that range from divey to scary. Espace Public is neither. It's got a tiny patio out front on Ontario and then about 30 seats indoors. It's dark, warm and woody like most brew pubs, with a chalkboard menu showcasing a couple of delicious in house beers and a couple other local brew selections and some small tasteful tasty snacks. The hoppy sour wasn't my favourite but the raspberry sour was really great, and the list in general was well-balanced when I was there - cool sours, classics IPAs, stouts, a blonde - really something for everyone. Super friendly cool staff, chill local crowd, slightly punk vibe making the brew pub less folksy and twee, less hipster and more appropriate to the surroundings. Really dug it and loved exploring this area a bit more in the light of the setting sun, with the end of summer in the air.

The atmosphere is pretty chill, I even saw a guy playing cards at another table. We were greeted by an employee who sat us immediately. They have large choice of beer, wine and liquor. I ordered beer along with an onion soup. It tasted great, comforting and pairing very well with the beer. My friend ordered an stout beer with ham poutine. The portions are very large and you'll be completely stuffed after eating there. The waitress came often to check on us and had very good recommendations for drinks. I would highly recommend for a relaxing night at the bar or dinner with friends. No fuss just good drinks and food.

Guiness was excellent (I would hope so in an Irish pub), as was the shot of Jameson. Her Fish and Chips were skimpy, mostly fries. My Burger Tip & Top (actually chicken, not beef) was interesting, but not quite what I was looking for. Again, portion was very small, with lots of fries to fill the plate. Staff was friendly, but with the crowd very slow. I'd come again for a beer, but I'd leave the kitchen alone.

Le Blind Pig turned out to be a surpisingly sweet find. On a Friday night, myself and three other…read morefriends found ourselves wandering Ontario St. looking for a spot to grab a drink and some food. After we couldn't get into La Trefle we came across the street to this bar. It was also busy since there was a hockey game on but we were able to land seats. The main appeal of Le Blind Pig is that it is cheap. You can get $3 beers here and they are local brews which are enjoyable. There is a small food menu serving up typical bar food. We split a massive plate of these mac and cheese balls which were deep-fried and served with marinara sauce. If memory serves me it was only about $9 and the portion size was pretty big considering the price. They were quite crispy but I do wish that they had been a little more cheesy. In all though it was a great experience and next time I find myself in HoMa I will definitely consider coming here for a drink.

I'm grateful for Le Blind Pig. This part of Hochelaga can be kinda variable for good bar fare (in…read moremy opinion) but Le Blind Pig is nearly always just right when it comes to needing something low-key and affordable. My pal and I workout down the street so I've had the pleasure of frequenting the spot semi-regularly on its quieter nights. As several reviewers have mentioned, the beers are hella cheap here. It's also worth mentioning that the majority of the beer is house brew and it's pretty good (particularly for the price). Given this feature of their drink prices comes the downside to this place: it gets PACKED. And not in a fun way. When this place gets full people are piled up on each other making it really difficult to get around. I also find that the crowd changes to unsavoury characters the more the night carries on. Once you hit peak business hour at this place it kinda feels like a gross frat house party. But back to the positives. The food is really accessible and pretty affordable (much like the drinks). My two go-tos are the grilled romaine salad and the tartar (the appetizer format is a perfect small meal and it comes with a salad). They used to have a larger menu with more pub menu-type options but I can still appreciate the variety offered now. Finally, I should mention that I find the service pretty variable. When they're really packed you can be waiting quite a while for your server and you can only order at the bar if you're seated there. It's definitely improved over the years but the servers also tend to be on the inexperienced (and drunk) side. Not the worst, but definitely could be improved on!

The first time, the music was extremely loud, and it seemed like they were short-staffed. The bar was completely packed, and there was only one bartender making drinks, so the wait was a bit longer than expected. We decided to give it another try, and I'm so glad we did. The second visit was amazing! The bartender working that night was incredible--she clearly knows her craft and made our drinks quickly without sacrificing quality. Every cocktail was delicious, and the overall experience was much more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend The Coldroom. My only suggestion would be that, with a space that busy, the bar could really benefit from having an additional bartender during peak hours. It would help keep wait times down and make an already great experience even better.

I had wanted to treat a friend to a dinner and a show while I was in town ahead of her birthday…read morelater this month, and the original restaurant she had chosen fell through (we mistaken the genre of the restaurant). With 1.5 hours before our burlesque show down the street at the Wiggle Room, I remembered I had bookmarked Le Majestique and that it was 1.5 blocks from both Schwartz and the venue! We made it over from St Denis and were graciously seated in the window - perfect lighting for selfies and food photos! It was happy hour, so we indulged in oysters (NB and NS I believe), as well as their scallop on half shell; this was so delicious with the hazelnut oil and fermented beets and butter - we pretty much drank the liquid afterwards (unapologetically - I had it dripping down my chin I think). Next was their special of the day, ricotta and mushroom filled anglotti with ceps, smoked matsutake and another mushroom, garnished with shavings of truffle and Parmesan. This was earthy and warming and delicious. For me it was fall. I wished it was on the permanent menu! We also shared the prime NY steak with green sauce and baby heirloom turnips. To end the meal we shared a pudding chomeur aged Louis d'or cheese. This was a creamy bread pudding- like dessert with grated Louis d'or on top. We enjoyed this - I love restaurants that showcase stellar local ingredients and Le Majestique does this well! If I could spend a month eating my way through Plateau Mont Royal and Little Portugal I would gladly do it. Bookmarked for future visits. Thank you for a wonderful night Le Majestique!
