Rudgers Landscaping and Construction (David and helper) responded quickly when I contacted them about an irrigation issue where the center of my lawn would not turn on. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill almost immediately. The owner refused to listen to what I was trying to explain and immediately started cutting into irrigation lines without discussing pricing, troubleshooting strategy, or even what he believed the problem might be. Instead, I got long "war stories" about other lawns he had worked on, which did nothing to address my issue. In the end, he never actually found the problem. Instead, he capped off piping and rigged the system so water flowed through all the sprinklers, but with significantly reduced pressure and coverage compared to before. When I pointed this out, he ignored my concerns and told me to go buy different sprinkler heads because that "should" fix the coverage problem. I would expect a professional irrigation contractor to properly diagnose and solve the issue himself. He also replaced the top portion of my solenoid valve with a larger setup that now prevents my valve box door from closing. After I contacted him about this, he promised he would come back and correct it. To date, I have heard nothing. The cleanup and restoration were also sloppy. Soil around the sprinklers was carelessly replaced, and the entire job felt rushed and unprofessional. I honestly regret paying for the service. I do want to say that his assistant was respectful of my property and professional throughout the visit. I only wish the assistant had been the one leading the job instead of the owner. At one point the owner mentioned that he installs artificial grass as well. Based on my experience with this irrigation repair, I personally would not trust him with any landscaping project. read more

David originally showed great promise, came out to see what I needed very promptly, gave me a quote for an irrigation system before he even left my property. After I confirmed what I wanted and we agreed on the pricing, it all went downhill. Kept saying he will get to me but never did. I got the feeling that maybe he wasn't going to make enough money because my job was too small, which is fine, but just let me know so I can find someone else; instead he opted to lead me into thinking he will get to it soon, and that went on for months. I guess that's my fault for taking him at his word. If this is the way he treats prospective clients before he's even made a sale, I'd hate to imagine how difficult it would be ask him to fix any issues with his work after all is said and done. Dave and his crew repaired a main line leak and irrigation system valve resulting from tree root damage. This required grinding the stump of a large, previously removed pine tree (two or three feet in diameter), then digging by hand to access and repair the piping. His approach is thorough and the quality of his thinking is obvious. I called Rudgers Landscape this morning and they have already fixed my leaks! Fast, excellent work at a reasonable price. My water bill had doubled. I called the company that originally replaced my irrigation valves many years ago and they couldn't come out for 3weeks. Meanwhile, my next door neighbors told me what great work they got from Rudgers Landscape. Rudgers Landscape used parts that were superior to the parts that had been used by the previous company for the valve replacements and for the irrigation shut off valve (that was also leaking). Called up looking for repair work on 2 valves and a sprinkler head. Turned out I needed a third valve, as the previous repair guy didn't do a good job since it was leaking after less than a year. Prices are very reasonable. Of the 5 places I called, 3 didn't call back with 24hrs, and I received 2 quotes. The lower one by at least 20% was Rugers landscape. They were able to fix the issue the next day, as I got lucky they were in the area already. David came out on short notice to help us figure out a problem with our irrigation system. We are somewhat familiar with fixing irrigation issues but this one we just could not figure out. Turns out, on our zero lot line with our neighbor, they had some work done on their property from a contractor who ended up cutting our irrigation line and capping it off. We had no idea that one of our irrigation zones went under their property to get back over to ours until David had the idea to check and sure enough it did, which was a weird design from previous owners of our house.
