Back then we nicknamed it 'the M & M store' because we were always treated to M & M's. There were inexpensive toys for purchase that we always looked forward to getting during our shopping excursions to help us pass the time. Neighbors relied on this store to get fresh milk and produce and it was a lifesaver as my Grandparents only went to Vegas once a month to shop at a full size grocery store. Over the years I continued to return to this store as an adult when I'd visit the Amargosa, and after my Grandparents died I would visit with Marta Becket in DVJ and get my supplies here. Sunny is a delight and it's been so heartwarming to see this formerly very rough little store turn into a very inviting shop & restaurant. I don't know when it first opened under the original ownership but the fact that it's remained a vital Amargosa Valley market these past 54 years for me is precious. I kept thimking about the Jayhawker Party crossing this desert in their wagons, leaving dead Jayhakers, oxen and horses dead on the trail as the Timbisha Shoshone watched from a distance.
