It's beautiful and definitely worth the cost. Everyone should see Ruby Falls at least once. We were the last group of the day. It was full but not crazy. I never felt crushed. My only issue was the height. My husband is 6'5" and had to duck almost the whole time. It was pretty hard for him bc of his back problems. I'm 5'5" and had to duck a few times too. He was glad he went, even though it was very uncomfortable for him. The trip is about a mile to the Falls but doesn't feel like it's that far. There is so much to see along the way. It's pretty amazing. Bonus, hardly anyone was wearing a mask. :) read more

The falls are beautiful and lit with color lights. You get a timed 7 minutes to take pictures. Even with our 40 people it was plenty of time. Floor can be damp and white sneakers can get muddy. This is a total "must see" if you visit Chattanooga, TN. I just don't have the heart to give it four stars, but here is why I would give it four stars: 1. The hour long line wait to get in, and 2. The conditions of the restrooms. The women's restroom was nasty, and according to my husband, the men's restroom only had one stall, so only one person could use the men's room at a time. They do have a family room for use, but I cannot review the condition of it since I did not use it. The people here were very friendly, and our tour guide, Chuck, was awesome and very knowledgeable. The cavern was breath taking, and the grand finale of the waterfall itself was so beautiful that it just warmed my heart. Make sure you wear good walking shoes, bring a light jacket if you get cold easily, use the restroom before you take your tour of the cave, and take lots of pictures! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Must see for any trip to Chattanooga. The tour guide was great and the underground water fall was an amazing site. Be prepared for pictures at the site because your group will only have a limited time and while the light show on the waterfall looks interesting, it will affect your pictures. The walk was only about a mile in both directions, which was kept to a slow pace. There where many rock formations along the way to the waterfall. The waterfall is really the main attraction, however, if you've visited other caverns the rock formations might be disappointing, but this would be a great starter cavern or trip for kids as it is short (only 1hr). Don't forget to look out at Chattanooga after the tour. read more

What a fun place! I love learning, exploring, and being a tourist in general and this was such a unique experience-especially for this Floridian. I took my 5 year old and had a blast. The price was worth the time and have us such an adventure. I believe the walk from start to finish was about a mile. We were thrilled to learn the history and witness this marvel of nature. The tour guides obviously enjoy their job and try to bring the energy to the tour. We even lost my daughter's jacket in the cave and they found it for us with no problem and in no time. This place was spectacular and our guide was just as amazing. The guide we had, Trevor, was funny with his jokes and seemed to enjoy what he does. As I was reading reviews, I can see how it could be challenging to have younger children in the caves because every so often, you have to stop and hug the wall to let another group through if you are the one going to the waterfall. They also advise guests to not touch the formations as the oils from the body can ruin them. I do understand why we had to have a guide and why there are time slots that have to be reserved, however I wish we could have stopped every so often to actually enjoy the caves and look around. Once at the waterfall, we didn't have a whole lot of time, maybe less than 10 minutes, so that was a bummer. Overall, I do recommend coming here if you're ever in the area. Fun! But a little pricey, not worth the price. It's a cool little stop by, you're only at the actual falls for about 3 minutes before they take you back. I am 20 and I think it may just not be interesting to me because it's not as cool as it's advertised to be. But I definitely think younger kids would enjoy it. read more

The stars are for the attraction itself, but the man-made portions are terrible. Here's what to expect for your $30 a head: 1) Parking is impossible. Get there 1.5 hours before your scheduled time because they have 13 year old kids standing around not directing anyone, meanwhile there are about six lots and they direct you into ones that they know are full just hoping a spot opens while you sluggishly creep along. It's cut throat in those lots and people will block a line of traffic and just sit for 15 minutes with no one in front, hoping that the guy meandering in the lot has a car to take out. 2) Once you park, you have a quarter mile hike of steep terrain to get to the entrance. The lots are NOT nearby. 3) Lines that put Disney to shame. Did you book a 1pm time? Guaranteed you won't be down there until 2pm. You'll stand in a line of 500 people that winds and winds from room to room, with no activities, information, anything. Have kids? WELCOME TO HELL. 4) At that point you'll have an elevator ride to the cave. But your tour doesn't start because the elevator takes 10 at a time and tours consist of forty people. So you wait a good 20 minutes or more. 5) There is only one way in and one way out, which means stopping for 5-10 minutes at a time while you get the crotch or the butt of every person that passes you in the narrow gap headed the other direction. I think we had 6 groups pass us. 6) There is no free time to look and explore; it's a 0.25 mile walk with forty people in single file. Fight for that front spot or your trip will suck. The "caboose" is sometimes so far back you can't hear them shout. 7) You get exactly 7 minutes for the falls. It's enough time to take that selfie, but just about the minimum considering there are forty of you. 8) The walk back is express (people entering have to stand aside to let you fit). You can't see much of anything headed back because you're moving. 9) No bathrooms for about 1.5 hours. Some can't handle that. 10) You end your trip with a long wait for the elevator to go up. I don't think there are any stairs, so if you're afraid of that sort of thing, try not to think about it. But the cave is very beautiful and it's cool even in 95° weather down there. Maybe mid-60s. If this doesn't turn you off, enjoy! P.S. Rock City is better. read more

I can't say I was all that thrilled with the idea of visiting Ruby Falls when my boyfriend suggested it on our trip to Chattanooga last year. But hands down, this was my favorite thing we did in Chattanooga! I want to go back! A must-see when you're traveling through this part of Tennessee, Ruby Falls does not disappoint. It takes about an hour and a half to walk through the cave to the waterfall and back, and the guides do their best to make the entire trip entertaining. The only downside is that they have so many groups all going through at the same time, and the way in is also the way out. I agree that Ruby falls is not wheelchair accessible due to the Narrow pathways through the cave system. there is 50 steps in the cave however, they are divided into different parts of the cave. Don't let the staff Discourage anybody with a disability for wanting to participate in touring the historic cave system The STAFF at Ruby Falls needs to realize that Ruby Falls is accessible to people who use walkers, crutches, or canes. The path is pretty smooth with a few steep parts but as long as the person has the ability to walk with assistance they can enjoy the historic cave system. It's more accessible than they think it is. I know this for fact, even though the staff told me that I was NOT ALLOWED to bring my walker into cave. REGARDLESS of what they said I brought my walker in the cave and I was able to walk through about 95% of path with just my walker. The other 5% I used minimal assistance getting up and down the steps. Ruby Falls was awesome!!! read more

I know. I know. It can be perceived as a bit of a tourist trap, but they really don't overdo the gaudiness of a typical one. First of all, the view from the top of the building is stunningly beautiful - you can see Chattanooga and the surrounding nature crystal clear. Secondly, and more importantly, Ruby Falls itself is gorgeous. The cave is an easy walk - my 4 year old daughter completed it on her own - it's probably a half mile walk each way. The cave itself is beautiful and the guides pace themselves so that everyone is made comfortable and there doesn't appear to be a rush. Finally, you get to the falls, which are just out of this world beautiful. They do a good job with the lighting (ok, the dramatic background music is a little cheesy) so you really get a feel for the grandeur of the falls. People will have time to take photos. I recommend going mid day on a weekday to avoid much crowds. read more

Enjoyed visiting Ruby Falls on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. It was not crowded at all, we walked in just in time to catch a tour heading down to the cavern/falls. We were with a group of about 25-30 and moved at a nice pace through the cavern. Our guide was Sawyer and he did a nice job of explaining the history of Ruby Falls and answering questions as well as making sure no one hit their head on low areas!! The tour started with an elevator ride then you walk gradually down a pathway and steps until you reach Ruby falls. There are several stagmite and stagtight formations you will pass along the way and hear stories of how they were named. The tour is about 1 mile of walking and takes just over an hour. You get about 7 minutes at Ruby Falls then you head back out. read more

When my out of town family visits Chattanooga, Ruby Falls is always something they request while they're in Chattanooga. It's a great port of interest in our city. In my experience, it totally depends on the tour guide. If you stay near the front of the crowd while walking through the cave, you'll get to hear more inside information. They recently renovated the gift shop and ticket counter, it's great! The parking lot is a little tricky to navigate so I'd take as few cars as possible if you're going with a group. read more

If you don't like standing around and waiting, I recommend going during a less busy time. We went on a Sunday afternoon and had to stop and flatten ourselves against the wall of a narrow passage way multiple times as exiting groups passed us. They pack in groups of 40 people every 10 minutes. A lot of waiting. Wait to get on elevator. Wait to get back on elevator. Cave itself was interesting. Falls are pretty. I would have enjoyed myself better if the tour time was half as long. Our tour guide didn't sound like they were saying much, but we were in the back. A few good jokes. "Build it and they will come", out fantastic tour guide Doug quoted that baseball field movie and said , " fix it up and they will come". So these beautiful caves found in the early 1900's have a quite incredible history that you should go see to believe, in the underbellies of this cave you find a beautiful inside waterfall. The cave has modernized some lightings to bring out glorious colors to visually see it, and after about 40 minutes of walking through the cave and exploring various fixtures and the story of the how- you come to the end where you are mesmerized by earths beauty. You have literally 5 minutes for pictures at the waterfall , I think 8 -10 would be better but it's really 5. The tour has various options for other things to see as well with a nice discount excluding just the cave. We were happy to get out of Nashville and drive the two hours to Chattanooga for the 60 weather cave. Must see! read more

We resisted the hype during a previous visit to Chattanooga but gave in this time. If you are looking for a true cave experience, this will seem over commercialized, as it did to us. This is the fourth cave we've been in this year so we knew all the formations but wanted to see the waterfall. The formations have hanging signs describing what they are and I was not a fan. It is about a half mile walk to the fall on a guided tour and you return the same way. Libby, our guide, did an excellent job. She talked a little fast but was very entertaining with all the information she had to impart. Our group was about 15-16 people but the maximum size is up to 45. I was glad we were on a smaller tour! We had about five minutes at the waterfall with changing lights highlighting it (you would not be able to see it otherwise). This was plenty of time for everyone in our group to get the photos they wanted but might be a bit challenging for the larger groups. There are other add-one like a zip line and Rock City, which we passed on. Ruby Falls is an economic boon to the local area - we just prefer less commercialized sights. read more

Very touristy, but if you want to visit a cave, and dislike all the normal things that come with caves (like critters, dirt and darkness), then this is for you. Walkways are clear, some stairs and some slippery areas. Our tour was the last of the day so there were about 20 of us. We were toward the back and when any side conversations happened, forget it we couldn't hear anything. If you're visiting Chattanooga, it's worth the trip. Just took the family on the Ruby Falls Zip Adventure and Underground Tour. To start... Taylor, "Dub" and Rana were our guides for the ropes course, climbing tower and zip line activities... I was very impressed.... All three took care of the kids, were patient and Taylor and Dub talked my 9yr old son through some very challenging spots in the ropes course. He nearly froze up but they worked him through it... While we were doing that Rana worked with my 5yr old daughter and let her climb and zip to her heart's content... They were all soooooo nice... 2 solid stars. One star is for the motivational video they showed prior to starting the guided tour. The other star is for courtesy and getting us in and out in a timely manner. Our guide was very proper and polite but he talked in such an animated voice, I felt like if I was in Disney World. The two most impressive formations my group of 9 saw were the "bacon" and "potato chip". Lastly, the "waterfall" was decent. Although the story behind Ruby falls seems too theatrical, it was a great walk to add to my daily 10,000 Fitbit steps. I've seen signs for Ruby Falls for years but never stopped. The tour was longer than I expected but I loved it. Our guide (Beau, I think?) was awesome! It helps that my group ended up only being 20 people. Some of the groups passing us were so large that I don't know how the back section would ever hear anything. The guide answered all of our questions and genuinely seemed to enjoy his job compared to some of the other guides I saw during our trip. One guide looked like she would rather be anywhere else while I overheard another guide make a comment about someone in their group struggling to make it back out of the cave. I was slightly disappointed by the waterfall at the end. It has always seemed bigger in photos I've seen and I didn't know there would be a large barrier around it. You don't get long in the waterfall room, but if you're in a smaller group, it's plenty of time. I want to come back and do a lantern tour. I wish they would offer this more than one night per week. I would think that would be a profitable offering, especially during the "spooky season." Overall enjoyed the trip after seeing signs for 30+ years. It's a little claustrophobic at times, but I never felt overwhelmed. The walk is not bad, but it is about 1 mile round trip with some wet, slippery areas so keep that in mind when planning your trip! read more

The natural formations and the waterfall are very nice. But the amount of people they let in at a time makes the whole tour very tedious. Our guide was very nice and knowledgable but hard to hear a lot of the time, and we had to stop 3 or 4 times to let other groups pass by. Having been to several other caverns, I'm not impressed by the design of this tour. Neon lights and meditation-type music detract from the natural experience of the cavern. It's all a very far cry from the sights and sounds the original explorers would have experienced. read more

We had a lot of kids and ours and the parents would not keep them quiet, with us toward the back we could not here the guide at all. Would much prefer going to Tennessee Valley Railroad instead.
