Tonight we ate there. Afterward I had to use the restroom. In the hallway next to the restroom laying on the floor, both on the floor was two cases of Cargill beef, unopened. High marks for their $.99 fish tacos. They're the street variety but are packed with flavor. The carnitas tacos are also very good. I'd stay away from the cabeza though. They're a bit on the chewy side. I can only assume that they don't have many orders for this "meat" which would explain the poor consistency. As far as the fish dishes I think Ruben's puts out better dishes than any other restaurant in the area--this is especially true now that Lindo Nayarit has closed. The dining room is huge and they offer bottled beers and bottled sodas from Tijuana. If you're anti-HFC, which I am, then this is the way to go. It's a shame that the "duke" of this place has never written a review of Ruben's. You'd think that after 12 visits he'd have an opinion or 10 of this place. Maybe he'll get around to it. Very solid taqueria. While in Riverside you're exposed to a number of taco shops, so where to go? Luckily a coworker of mine referred me to Ruben's Tacos and I'm glad I made the trip. The 'street' style tacos here are delicious. I ordered 3 tacos: asada, pastor, & pollo. All of the meats were cooked and seasoned well. The high note of my meal was eating the Quesadilla de Maiz. A freshly made corn tortilla quesadilla; probably the best one of these I've had in a long long time. Tip: Bring cash as when I used my debit card, the cashier had to 'round up' my total to the nearest $5 and then gave me some cash back as change. This seemed a little strange to me so I'll more than likely keep some cash handy for my next trip. I'll definitely be coming back to try more items off this menu! read more

This is going to a short review.... Hands down one of the best all around mexican spots in riverside. Hands down the best quesadilla anywhere! See my pictures for this place. I usually go on sunday mornings. This is when they have their birria cart out. Every day youc an get the goat birria, but when the cart is out they have lamb. The make a great version. They add meat, salsa and broth that has semi hard garbanzo beans. The texture is amazing. The have a really good salsa bar too. 3 different kinds, along with a tray of sliced raddishes, and a tray with homemade pickles jalapeños and carrots. The only negative here is that their micheladas are just mediocre at best. It's a super ethnic place, so the more spanish you know the better. read more

Been going there for years but the food has changed and it is not as good anymore. The food was burnt and too salty. the server put her fingers inside the cup before she served the drinks. Touched the register, answered the phone and then served my drinks all without sanitizing or taking off her gloves that she was using to clean who-knows-what. read more

Great food for the most part and polite people. But, what's a turn-off is the place often can be very messy inside. As thought no one is assigned to keep the floor table clean throughout the day. I came here on a Saturday night when the place was super busy. I ordered fish and lengua tacos. The tacos were over soaked with oil when I bit into them all I could taste was the grease. In addition, there was more than one customer aside from me complaining about getting their order wrong. If only the staff and cooks would take their time and focus on the quality of food rather than providing fast service perhaps this place would have happier customers. Ruben's Tacos #3 offers a enchilada plate with 4 enchiladas, rice, beans and salad for 8.99. I couldn't even eat half because I got so full! I got red sauce cheese enchiladas and they were huge. Four of them! Also, the rice and beans were perfect! My husband got a huge carne asada burrito and a tasty horchata. This place is his new favorite too! This place was packed, so go visit! The 2 downsides that I came across were: 1. It could use a bit more tidying up inside. Quite a few tables could've used a wipe down as well as the floors. The kitchen looked pretty clean too me though! 2. They need a menu up on the wall. When you walk in for the first time it is a bit difficult to know where you should go. This used to be a really good place to eat and reasonable prices! The owner was a customer of mine years ago and was very kind and always at the store. Nowadays you don't even see him or the family. Today I went to get Chilaquiles and a water, a Chilaquiles We're burnt soggy as hell and the water was just sour. I was very disappointed I hope that they also start cleaning up as they work because the place looked like a dump! Counters were very sticky like they are are never wipe down! So i am giving these guys 3 stars due to service, price And organization. If your going to eat here go for the mulitas they are bomb.com is like a gordita with lots of cheese and meat so delicious the tacos where okay I have had better we tried a bit if everything and again best thing to eat here is a mulita really good and worth the super long line lol. Now the price was high for tacos and this place did not have there pricing on any menus or anywhere. Not to mention the receipt says miscellaneous on everything so you really can't tell what your being charged for. Service is bad there is a lot of people working here since it's really busy they seem very stressed out and not very friendly. I argued with a lossy today about my order she didn't want to give me my mulita and receipt doesn't help because it doesn't tell you what you bought lol. This is a good legit Mexican food spot if you like Mexican food this is no like an Alberto's just wish the service and organization of the place was better. One of my favorite places for Authentic Mexican food. You can even ask for your quesadilla or tortillas to be handmade instead of store bought! They also have fresh fruit waters made with actual fruit (aguas frescas). It's like eating at home. Everything is freshly chopped and not from a can. read more

The Nachos are horrible!!! They microwaved them!!! Chef Gordon Ramsey would have a bitch fit! The chips were extremely stale and the microwaved cheese was gross!! I did send them back and they did give me a plate of taquitos but by the time I got them my spouse was already done eating and I had to take it to go!! The tattoos were burnt with barley any meat in them at all!! And most of the meat was burnt to a crisp!! The only reason I'm giving them one stars is because the beans rice and enchilada were pretty good, and because I need one for the review! I wish I could give them no stars! The Costumer service was pretty bad too; the atmosphere felt like if you didn't know Spanish then you didn't deserve to eat there!
