My husband and I just came back from a lovely and restful three night Memorial Weekend stay at Ruah B&B. We were in the area to see Fort Ticonderoga. Ruah B&B is on Lake George (with the loveliest views of the lake). We left our French doors open all the time and woke up each morning to mist on the lake and birdsong.
One night, very late, I opened my eyes to the moon rising over the hills on the east side of the lake , all reflected in the dark water. And the scent of lilacs. Heavenly.
Speaking of heavenly, breakfast was amazing each morning. Each day when we opened our bedroom door the smell of coffee wafted up the quirky stairway (this IS a Stanford White designed home). Going down past the stuffed bookshelves and into the glorious dining room (overlooking the lake) a wonderful breakfast waited: fresh fruit salad each day, yogurt, a pitcher of OJ, coffee, tea & and hot muffins. I thought that was it. No, out came a plate of crisp waffles with a side of bacon. The next day was blueberry pancakes and ham. When we left, the owner wrapped up some muffins as a snack for us to take along.
Our room was comfortable. It was decorated in Victorian style in keeping with the rest of the home. The bed was comfortable and the balcony view was a treat. The bathroom was huge with plenty of fluffy towels. The toiletries were of good quality and the hot water never failed.
The sloping grounds are beautifully kept with things in bloom in everywhere. The porch is a treat. The busy owners take time to talk. They were friendly and kind. Ruah B&B is the antithesis of a "plain Jane chain" motel. It is lovely (what a family home it would make!), well located, quiet, clean and pleasant. Enjoy. read more
