If you are looking for a top-notch place to board your horse, I strongly recommend 4 Hearts Ranch…read more I have boarded my horse here for four years, since its prior existence as the historic Wills Ranch. Hallie Martin and her excellent staff have spent the last 2.5 years bringing this venerable property back to life, and I could not be more pleased with the services provided and the vast improvements and renovations that continue to be made. My horse's stall and run are beautifully maintained. He always has fresh, fluffy bedding and plentiful clean water from his automatic waterer. His hay and feed are top quality and are stored safely. He is turned out daily, weather permitting. The multiple turnout pastures are huge. Proper herd management is a priority. Hallie decides where each horse goes to create the best possible herd life for every equine. The entrance gate is secured 24/7 with a keypad lock. In addition to providing wonderful care for the horses, Hallie wants her boarders to enjoy the gorgeous property as well. She has cut trails through the ranch, which also boasts a creek and large fields for good runs. The large indoor arena is well-lit and professionally leveled. There is an outdoor arena as well. Boarders can relax in the cozy lounge. In-house trainers in multiple disciplines offer their services to help you and your horse meet and exceed your performance goals. Hallie is responsive to the boarders and truly looks after our horses as if they were her own. Her horses receive the very same care given to the boarded ones. One afternoon my horse was acting a "little off" in the pasture, and she stayed with him until I could check on him. He turned out to be fine, but I rest easier knowing she and the staff are keeping a close eye when I can't be there. If I have a question or an issue, all I need to do is bring it up to Hallie or Assistant Manager Laura, and I get a prompt, pleasant, professional response. When an issue arises, Hallie and her staff respond immediately. The ranch is beautiful, but the health and happiness of the horses are the top priority. Speaking as an owner who requires full board, I firmly believe my horse would not be any safer, happier, or healthier anywhere else besides 4 Hearts. 4 Hearts is blessed with many long-term and newer boarders who are happy to call 4 Hearts their barn home. The ranch has a consistently high occupancy rate. If you are considering boarding your horse at 4 Hearts, do your research. Take the opportunity to visit with some of the good folk here. Talk to Hallie. More importantly, talk to your local vet. Talk to your farrier. They know the facility and the owner and can give you unbiased feedback. Bonus: there are friendly barn cats and gorgeous peacocks to add to the welcoming atmosphere. This is a very happy place for horses and boarders alike.

This review is based on my own experience, opinion and or facts…read more 1. Property is in a flood plane. Outside paddocks and stalls will flood. The manure pit floods allowing fecal matter to travel through the property. Manure contaminated water contains a variety of chemicals and pathogens, exposure can lead to E.Coli contamination, Giardia, respiratory illness and birth defects. Visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention for more information. 2. At the time I boarded at this facility, just recently for 2 1/2 months, it was made known after my horse and a couple of others before him that came down sick, that the facility did not have a biosecurity, vaccination and or quarantine protocol in place to protect boarder's horses from highly infectious equine disease or their owners from Zoonotic disease. Negative Coggins and health certificates are all that the owners required of new boarders and overnighters coming from all over. Vaccination records or quarantine time not required. Due to this, horses including mine came down sick with Strep Equi. In vaccinated horses such as mine, the Strep Equi caused pneumonia diagnosed by my veterinarian. My horse was the third horse to come down sick after some overnight boarders from another state stayed at the facility for a couple of days. The lack of having a biosecurity, vaccination and quarantine protocol in place was verified by my veterinarian after my horse came down sick and after he had a conversation with the owner, Mrs. Roy who confirmed such information. Having such strict equine disease prevention protocols in place for long term and overnight boarders, would greatly cut down on the risk of transmitting disease and illness. 3. Overwhelming fly population. Feed through fly control, fly traps, holding boarders accountable for cleaning their stalls daily and better management of the manure storage, all help tremendously to cut down on unnecessary and excessive fly populations and lowering the risks of disease. Stall cleaning rules alone simply were not followed or enforced by management or owners even though I brought the issue to management's attention. 4. Absentee owners. This property is for sale which means, when something needs to get fixed, it doesn't. My inquiry into having electrical plugs that were not working in the main barn replaced, so fans could be used during the hot Summer months, fell on deaf ears. Sewage backup and a/c issues in the apartments on property were reported by tenants to have been left to them to figure out and unaddressed by management or the owners. 5. Owners and management will take it upon themselves to override your veterinarian's care protocol if your horse does come down sick. They will also come to their own conclusion of whether or not your horse is still sick. If they decide your horse is still sick, they will take it upon themselves to put your horse in a area with no shelter, is unsafe and put a padlock on the gate in order to restrict your access to your own horse to feed and care for them per your veterinarian's care protocol. Keep in mind that no one has the right to practice veterinarian medicine without a license, override your veterinarian or confiscate and put your horse in harms way. This happened to myself and another boarder at this facility. Animal endangerment and cruelty at its finest. This was reported to animal control, the Sheriff's Department and my veterinarian for involvement. Did my boarding contract give the owners this right? Absolutely not! No boarding contract ever should. Don't make a decision to use or not to use this facility based on my experience, opinions and facts. Do you own due diligence before making a decision, read the boarding contract and make it a point to talk with other boarders if any are available.
