Another Sorority Sister and I went to Star yesterday to get Melissa two jars of Golden Eagle. In general, any sauce or unique condiment you want is generally available at Star Market! Hubs and I love "Bishop's 3 'N' 1 Stuff Barbecue Sauce" and it's only available at Star Market. Try Bishop's it's good on any type of meat! We browsed around a little and per usual, their meat department was well stocked and well displayed. Hubs did not want a Terry's pizza this time and I by passed that little department in the back. Star Market carries unique and regional things like delicious pimento cheeses and I think I've seen Chicken Salad Chick for sale in Star, also. Sister and I wine shopped because Star Market typically carried a great selection of inexpensive unoaked white wines (Simply Naked was the label and they make unoaked Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay) that I enjoyed and now they don't appear to carry the Simply Naked brand. We did get a chilled Kim Crawford unoaked Chardonnay which was good! The staff are always friendly and helpful and most importantly chatty as you check out at Star Market. For Terry's Pizza (and Terry's lasagna) either baked at Star or take and bake; a great variety of delicious meats; good wine selection; and unique sauces, condiments, and refrigerated local items, definitely go to Star Super Market. Star is locally owned and operated and has served this region since 1944.

It's not uncommon to find out of date or spoiled things on shelves. I've seen moldy bread and other things out of date, which is weird but again, it's not a Walmart or Publix that has an army of employees and/or a team dedicated to only rotating stock and checking dates. So, buyer beware.

During our most recent visit, my daughter walked in holding an apple she was already eating as we browsed. Almost immediately, the teller confronted us in a way that felt unnecessary insisting that she could not eat the apple inside the store. The manner in which this was handled felt far beyond a simple policy reminder--it felt uncomfortable. As an African-American family, the interaction left us feeling singled out and disrespected in a place we had previously felt welcome. No customer should be made to feel this way--especially in a business we've supported repeatedly. Based on this experience, I would strongly caution others, particularly African-American families, to think twice before visiting this location.

I highly recommend this store especially over the much bigger store by 88 Buffet. They even have some Vietnamese prepared good. Even though they have food from all over Asia, I think they specialize in Chinese . Michael will always tell me how how to cook vegetables that I know nothing about.

I love grocery stores that provide and sell local businesses products. It's just something about being supportive for our local community. The store itself is clean, but it is older. This building has been around for years, so the wear and tear is there but it really gives it some character. I know they have really tried to go above and beyond for their senior customers. They have offered to pick out some groceries for those who are high risk and bring them out and let the customer pay via check so that is extremely courteous and just such a grand gesture. Because of this gesture I will keep coming back to Bruce's and support our local grocery.

Ground beef was lean, oxtails were trimmed very well so I wasn't paying a lot for fat and the dogs are still chewing on the bones two weeks later. I work for a Vet and he approved the raw femur bones for my large dogs. Never give cooked bones, rawhide, ears, or bones from fowl. Im so glad I found this meat market. The butcher was so very nice and helpful.
