I've been in this area in the past as it shares space with T&N Computer Recycling Service which takes various electronics for free as it was the perfect place to dispose of my super old old old TV worry free making it a convenient time saver stop if you have multiple items to recycle at this Beretania St location. You can't miss the huge lot they occupy which probably makes a huge draw to many though for me personally was a it annoying. As we all follow the rules that various location prefer us to do to process it all the wait for just a small load took awhile especially with those that have huge loads as I don't like to wait and hoard this isn't the spot for me, the only positive is lots of parking and the convenience to recycle your items in a single spot to get your return on the deposits. Normally when I recycle all my empty cans of seltzer water that I drink, I like to go to the Monster Hi-5 and Tires recycling plant to recycle my cans, but one particular day when I was trying to go to Monster Hi-5, the lot was extremely full as they had a shipping container in their lot to do a pickup of the recyclables. Stuck with a few garbage bags of cans in my car, I decided to head down on Beretania Street and stop into the - RRR Recycling plant. What can I say about RRR Recycling? 1. The recycling plant is busy & pretty crowded. The wait to process my cans took awhile. 2. The customer clientele is mixed...........you got the "regular folks" who once in a blue moon come into a recycling plant to turn in their recyclables. Then on the other hand, you have the "other type of folks" who recycle like their life depended on it! 3. While I patiently stood in line, a scummy lady actually tried to take a trash can full on my recyclable cans. Can you believe it??? Of course she looked the type of person in the category of - "other type of folks", if you know what I mean. Lol! After a long wait, when I finally got to the processing area, everything else went through smoothly. On the bright side of coming to this recycling plant, there is ample parking here, so access is much easier than the recycling plant I normally go to with Monster Hi-5. Although it's a hassle to recycle, I'm pretty sure it's a good thing to do for our environment. read more

Out with the old, in with the new! As we come to the end of 2021 on a stormy and wet day, we decided to take the time to binge-watch a couple of shows on Netflix or Amazon Prime when suddenly our television went on the fritz. Sheesh! What lousy timing since we were prepared to settle in with our television watching snacks and decided to take a day off from exercise. We could've just stayed in to watch the shows on our other televisions, but my husband decided to treat us to a late Christmas gift by getting a new and larger model for our living room. We shopped, managed to find a replacement, and brought it home to install. However, we were left with a non-functioning television screen and wanted to dispose of it properly. We would've taken it down to the e-recycler in Kalihi that we've taken other outdated electronics to in the past but, they were closed for the day, so we called RRR Recycling. It was around noon when my husband called and left an inquiry whether or not they'd take e-waste. Within a few minutes, Nick returned the call and confirmed that he had a separate e-waste bin on-site and there was no charge for processing. Thanks to Nick's quick reply, we hopped back into our vehicle with the old television monitor, stand, and cables to bring to RRR Recycling. When we arrived, several cars were parked in the available stalls, and we saw Nick taking in the customers' recyclables. We waited in line, and Nick showed us to the large shipping container marked T & N Computer Recycling Services on the far right side of the property. The container wasn't too packed, but my husband and I carried our old television and accessories into the back of the container. Easy-peasy process and we felt good about the proper disposal of our old television. We'd gladly return to RRR Recycling when we accumulate more recyclable items or e-waste. read more

I never write reviews because I feel like mistakes happen but this was an exception because this experience was HORRIBLE. Upon arrival, I was told there was a five barrel limit however the people directly in front of me were given 10+ (I believe they were friends with the workers). Upon completion of their recycling, they were given their barrels back with a line of 8+ people who wete all questioning why they were being given back 10+ barrels back. We were all very frustrated in line that they gave people favoritism, but the cherry on top is not only the bending of rules. The two that were given the barrels back waited on the side and were almost given my money. At peak frustration, I asked what the f***, what is happening? The worker told me "I don't have a supervisor, you going to be nice or go somewhere else" AFTER I unpacked everything. No apology for a huge error and for making everyone else in the line wait an exceedingly long time. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a recycling location and I will drive further to not have to deal with this again. You may have friends that come to your job site but it should not take precedence over other customers and you should ESPECIALLY not threaten people when they ask about how your job is being done immediately after you almost gave away their money. Since my go-to RRR Recyling place closed up (it was located on Waialae in the Fresh Catch parking lot), I had to find a new RRR Recycling spot, and decided to give this location on Beretania a try. The lot is spacious with plenty of parking. The few times that I've been here, I've been able to get in and out pretty quickly. The process is simple - look for empty green bins and start filling them up with your recyclables (separate your glass, plastics, and cans). Line up on the right. Wait for the guy to weigh your recyclables, then wait for your cash. Don't forget to bring wipes for your hands! read more

Came by a few times now with our bottles and cans. Staff works as quickly as they can. You take available bins to load your items in, then wait in line to get it weighed. Parking can be limited if it is busy, so try to go at an off-time to avoid a wait. I would recommend wearing gloves since it does get a bit dirty around the bins and recyclables. read more

RRR recycling is conveniently located on Beretania and Keeamoku Streets, right by the 76 station. Hours that they are open are posted, but just verify since they have changed some since the Covid pandemic. I'm a big believer in recycling, but this recycling facility is a bit scary, since there are a lot of homeless people around here so it's good to come with a buddy. read more

They are worst recycling company, they try to deduct two plastic gray buckets weight even there is only one on the scale.They try to cheat my can weight, even I stand by. I told them the weight is not right . I most lose 15 pounds cans. It happened twice.they all liars . I never go back there anymore read more

The best thing about RRR recycling is that they are open Monday through Saturday normal daytime hours. They are conveniently located only a few blocks from my home, close to Ala Moana Shopping Center. They have a large parking lot and two staff members to help with the exchange. It was my first time there and I was unfamiliar with what to do so I read the instructions. Basically you get a large green trash can and divide up your stuff into aluminum, bi-metal like Dole pineapple juice cans, green, brown, and clear glass beer bottles. Then you lug all these trash cans to the front of the line and they win everything and give you your cash. Because it was my first time there, it took about 20 minutes to get everything done but I think it should be faster next time. The tip is to stand in line while you divide up your stuff so you don't have to line up at the end of the line after you separate your stuff. Definitely would have saved about 5+ minutes on my trip. This is going to be my go-to place for recycling in the future. read more

This is a convenient recycling center in town. Big lot to park in. Can't go wrong! They also have some electronics recycling there too

When I arrived at the recycling center at Beretania, there were about 6 customers ahead of me. Four of them each had 5 to 8 green containers, and there were no more green containers. I had two bags of bottles, which would fit into one green container. I walked to the front to wait for a green container, although I knew it would be a while, since all the customers were in the process of sorting their cans and bottles into all the available containers. A worker saw me, and told me to give him my bags. He put my bottles into one of the gray containers and weighed them for me. This wasn't cutting in front of anyone, because none of the other customers were ready. So what I thought was going to take me a very long time, ended up taking me less than 5 minutes! I was so happy! I believe the worker's name was Jacob. He was great! His small act of kindness made my day! read more

Been coming to this location for many years. They have a good size parking lot that is pretty clean. The workers are quick and efficient. I try to bring my recycling before their lunch break. It tends to be busier after they get back. Traffic also starts to pick up on Beretania Street. read more

Although I'm happy to do my part for the environment (as well as happy to get my 5 cents/beverage container back), I'll admit that recycling isn't my favorite chore for a number of reasons: 1. It usually means standing in a long line, in the hot sun. 2. The clientele (depending on the location) can be a bit sketchy. 3. It stinks (literally). 4. Usually when we find a decent recycling location/redemption center, they close down, then we have to find another one. So, after letting our recycling pile up for months and months and months, we had no choice but to find a recycling station/redemption center to go to. We did a quick search on opala.org and found this location on Beretania street. Funny, we've passed this numerous times but never noticed it. Anyway, here's how they work: 1. Sort your recyclables by type (cans, plastic bottles - no caps, etc.) into the GREEN containers/bins on the left side of the line. (Tip: bring gloves or purell or both.) 2. Stand in line with your bins on the right side of the line. (In the shade!) 3. Let the guys weigh your items. (These guys were pretty efficient. Even though there were other people in line before us, the line moved pretty quickly. Usually, it takes FOREVER!!!) 4. Sign your receipt and collect your cash. Easy breezy!!! read more

Took 4-5 months worth of recycling here today after sheltering, avoiding contact but running out of space. Not surprisingly, more people here than usually with the same idea/ situation. Took a while to get empty cans due to so many customers BUT the staff here were incredible. They moved like human conveyor belts moving things along...weighing, counting, emptying and getting cans to waiting customers. I couldn't believe how QUICKLY I was out of there with the volume of customers and, by the looks of it, their months of recyclables! I've always been appreciative of the work, sometimes in intense heat, they do here usually with good attitude and helpfulness and today they topped it! read more

Honestly, I don't expect much from a recycling center that resides in a dirt-filled lot with tents and trailers. They do their job, which is process your recyclables and give you the appropriate money amount. There is a lot of homeless people at this particular location. Always lock your car and don't leave anything unattended. I personally see bums eyeing other people out. They also really need to shoot down their bins... they are so gross with grime inside. I don't like touching anything there. 1 star for being green friendly to Mother Earth, 1 star for fast service. read more

I take recyclables here regularly for my Mom. It is efficient and the staff is as friendly as you are to them. I'm a sissy so, yes, I get the thing about the gross bins. The reason the bins are gross and stinky is because people don't do what they're supposed to with recyclables: rinse and drain them. So, it is what it is. We always clean our cans, bottles, etc., so no juice or soda drops are oozing out. If everyone does their job we wouldn't have to touch such stuff. read more

I usually throw my recyclables in our blue rubbish bin, but decided to turn them in for some cash! I didn't know the procedure when arriving. So I stood in line and the guy instructed me to separate my recyclables in the green bins. Ok so I brought the green bins over. He then told me.. no I gotta do it out of line. Sure no problem. After loading my green bins I pulled them under the rope back to the front of the line. Mind you, nobody else is inline. The guy then yells at me that I gotta go around! Geez. Just because I took a shortcut. He then starts going through my bottles and starts throwing (flying them) non-recyclables in the bin next to me. Another worker starts telling him that the smaller bottles were infact ok to recycle. Annoyed that I got yelled at and that I lost some money due to this guys bad attitude. He should be lucky to be working and considered essential when most of us haven't worked in 2 months! What an A-hole! read more

Before going here I was getting used to Renolds, Shady weight process. So I started counting my cans and bottles, and taking them in by 200. So I wouldn't get ripped off. But I took my 200 here expecting my usual 10 bucks. Bug they insisted. On weighing my items. And assured me a min if 10bucks. Amazingly I recived 12bucks and change. I have no clue why people wouldn't go to this recycling center. I will never go to any other recycle center. Lol..they bought my loyal business for 2bucks and change. read more

Worst service I have experienced here. I inadvertently had some plastic containers in the wrong garbage can and the guy threw the plastic into my glass garbage can. When I went to take them out and put them where they were supposed to go he threw more plastic containers on my head. No apology from the guy and he did it repeatedly So it wasnt by accident. Later while I was waiting for them to cash me out a different worker inadvertently hit me with a bottle cap. He at least apologized. If it weren't for the convenient location this would have gotten zero stars. read more

Slightly (very slightly) less scuzzy than most of Honolulu's other remarkably horrible recycling centers. However, their "customer service" is just as bad as the rest. Today they started turning away people who had been already standing in line for some time - and this was 20 minutes before their posted closing time. read more

Recycling is definitely not the most exciting thing to do in the middle of a hot Hawaiian afternoon but this location in particular would be the best place to do it, in my opinion! *Good location for those who live in the Makiki vicinity. As long as it's not too busy, the staff here are usually pretty helpful. The first time I came here, i filled 2 whole bins with mixed glass bottles but the lady was nice enough to separate them for me, oopsies! A few things to keep in mind: separate your glass by color, make sure all twist caps are removed from plastic bottles, all recycled items need to have their label on them, take your own trash home, and you have to sort your items before you get in line. It seems like a lot of work for so little money in return but i always think about how much of a positive impact recycling is for our island, and it never hurt anybody to make a few extra bucks that you can use to treat yourself right after your good deed for the day ;) read more

The trash bins that you need to use to sort your recyclables are never cleaned so they are always sticky and stinky. The parking lot is full of pot holes that pond up when it rains. They "close" before the posted time by not letting people in line. I understand the workers don't get paid overtime so they like to be out of there "on time" but if that's the case, they should either pay their workers for the 10 minutes or so after closing that is required for them to "clean up" before they go home OR post a closing time that is 10 minutes earlier than when the workers go home. This location DISCOURAGES good people from recycling because it is SUCH and unpleasant experience to have to endure. read more

Good to have your center but wonder if you can reconsider the rule "No carts on premises"? I'm a 87 yr old and have my cart loaded up and want to unload it near the unloading area. The diligent workers are very strict and point to your law so I have to haul my stuff far away and carry the heavy loaded bags back in. The one person there was sitting down & watching cartoons on his phone. He doesn't acknowledge I'm there so I asked if I should start putting the cans in the bin & he nods yes. After I do this, I go to the front of the line THEN he decides to tell me "I'm on lunch". I asked when is lunch over? He tells me 1:00 without turning away from his phone. I left my phone in the car so had to ask what time it was. He says 12:35. I gave him the benefit of the doubt thinking since I was the only person there with one bin he'd just do it & continue with his lunch. Nope. He was just gonna sit there watching cartoons until lunch was over. Another couple pulled in & he doesn't say anything to them either so I let them know he's on lunch but they had started dumping their cans & bottles into the bins too. The worker decides to finally tear himself away from his phone but not to help us. He walks past us to close the gate so nobody else could come in & keep us waiting. Both the other couple & I left our stuff there without receiving any apology or money. I don't recycle for the money nor do I post reviews but this was beyond annoying. Sad that there are people like this in the service industry. I've been here a few times before & the other workers were really friendly & helpful but it is true that all it takes is ONE bad apple. I get that nobody likes being interrupted during their lunchtime but have some professional courtesy. read more

Parking is a plus as some places don't have parking or there is minimal. It's just sorting out your recyclables there that is a chore to do especially on a hot day there. It gets done and got some cash back. read more
