Last time I was here about 15 years ago. Roy's hasn't changed much. Service is good but when they are busy expect to wait on your food. We first had lunch and took advantage of the fresh salad bar. Good selections of vegetables and salads. But the mashed potato salad is the winner. Great deal for less than $9. We came back for dinner it was busy. Drinks are good. They have a full bar. There is an outdoor patio overlooking the river to hang out while you wait. We ordered the crab corn chowder and it was good. If you order a main dinner it comes with that great salad bar. We ordered the pick 4 seafood meal. OMG. Too much food. The flounder was huge. Shrimp cooked good. Blackened scallops were ok . They weren't very hot. Crab cake pretty good. The baked potato was very good. We took home a full meal. Beautiful view of the river and good food. Just be prepared to wait.

Roy's Restaurant has great food, great service and a wonderful atmosphere for seafood lovers. I highly recommend a visit on your birthday because they have delicious chocolate cake and the bartender makes superb drink specials. Roy's salad bar is very good and has plenty to offer. A spectacular sunset view is also available as well while you enjoy your dinner.

We had great service! The place has recovered very well since the storm! Everyone enjoyed their food, and they had a very nice salad bar!

Very friendly place. 1st visit-Chantelle was extremely warm and personable. Served us at the pace we indicated. The decor and general atmosphere is upscale homey. Tasteful but not snooty. Pretty inside with great views of the water. The food was great. Nice to have a choice of "naked" wings. The stuffed flounder was extremely well prepared. Also the hush puppies were nice and crispy on the outside and soft, flavorful and hot on the inside. Sounds silly but the broccoli was awesome. Not only was the texture perfect but it was seasoned just right. Often in restaurants, the veggies are an afterthought and over cooked and either under or over seasoned. Not so here. 2nd visit-Taylor was gracious, attentive, & all southern sweetness. The onion rings were some of the best we've had. Flaky batter that does not leave fingers with a greasy film. Hot upon arrival. The burger was good and as a burger should be. The crab chowder is a peasant surprise. Corn adds a very welcome slightly sweet crunch and the crab is plentiful. Good flavor.

I apologize but I did not love this place. There's not many restaurants to choose from in this area and Roy's should do better. Poor service and then more waiting for more poor service seemed to be a norm here. Yes they were busy but a quick stop at the table was never done unless we asked. They have a salad bar which is unique these days. Sadly, there was nothing worth mentioning at the salad bar, though. I ordered the NY Strip with a baked potato and did not finish it because it tasted like fake grill taste as opposed to a nicely marinated prime steak. There was also a tasteless roll on the plate. After a few bites I decided the calories and carbs were not worth it. I won't return and do not recommend Roy's. I am so sorry to say that but I just don't recommend it due to the service, taste and price. I should have cooked in our condo. (Note - I edited my original review when the owner commented on my review that I inaccurately called the NY Strip a Sirloin.)

The Ambiance Is Super Nice. But Outside, In The Spring There Are These Giant Bugs Outside. The Salad Bar Is Very Very Nice. That Seafood Platter Is So Yummy, Flavorful, And Has Great Texture All Throughout. Nice Bada Bang Shrimp. It's Not As Sweet has I Would've Hoped But It's Good. The Hushpuppies Are Very Nice. I Love Them So Much More With The Tartare Sauce. The Stuffed Grouper Is Spicy, Flavorful, And Delicate In Texture. And The Sweet Potato Is Quite Nice. In Conclusion, It May Be The Worst Quality I've Had On My Trip. But At Least The People Are Nice, Food Is Good, And It Filled Me Up. And Please, Admire The Name Of The Town, Steinhatchee. It Sounds Like The Son Of A Proud And Pure American With British Origins, And A Seminole Woman. Well I Guess I Have To Get Through Those Bugs Again.

Grilled platter piled high with scallops, a serious amount of food

Really solid choice the in Steinhatchee area. Of the restaurants we visited in the area, this was my favorite. The decor was updated, the service was efficient and the food was delicious. It can get crowded but if you put your name in, they will text you when your table is ready so you can walk the docks or just hang out nearby. Locals tell me the food selection her is limited and there are more choices other than seafood at other restaurants, but I beg to differ. I came for seafood and I was not disappointed. Coconut Shrimp - heavily battered, large and delicious, solid choice Scallops - the local bay scallops, plentiful, seasoned well and tender Mullet - not something you find on the menu often, so if you like it, get it. Seafood Platter - scallops, deviled crabs, fish, shrimp which i thought were terrific. I got mine grilled and you cannot pick and choose so the oysters came grilled too and they were not as stellar as the rest of the fish. Hush Puppies - I am not a hush puppy fan, but these were light fluffy and delicious. They do hush puppies proud. Burger - when you have just had too much seafood (posh, can there be such a thing?) this is your order. During season, this wait time can be hours but i have to say i really enjoyed it. I took some time to people watch and peruse the menu. Food came out slowly but it was hot and delicious.

We ordered jumbo blue crab claws, bacon cheeseburgers, bone-in wings, and washed it all down with cold beers. To top it off, we finished with a slice of Key Lime pie. Every single dish came out hot, fresh, and cooked to order -- exactly what you want after a full day on the water. But the real highlight of our visit was our waitress Kiley. She was absolutely fantastic -- attentive, friendly, and made sure our drinks were never empty. Great service like hers is hard to find and makes all the difference. If you're in the Steinhatchee area and looking for great food and even better service, don't walk -- run to Deadman's Bay. We'll definitely be back next fishing trip!

Our waitress was attentive throughout the meal, and the manager/owner (I'm not sure which) personally came by to check on us. I also noticed him visiting other tables, which was a nice touch and showed good customer service. We originally wanted to sit outside because the view and setting are beautiful, but the Steinhatchee gnats were definitely out that evening. Unfortunately, I forgot our gnat spray -- and around here you know that's almost mandatory! We started with the conch fritters, and those were a hit with both of us. Very flavorful and definitely something I'd order again. I ordered the scallops, which were tasty, although they weren't served very hot and the breading was falling off a bit. My husband had the shrimp dinner and enjoyed his meal as well. The salad bar was fresh and nicely stocked, which we appreciated. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and would return, especially for the atmosphere, friendly service, and conch fritters.

We were warned that there were only 2 wait staff on at the time, and to be patient. To that, our waitress had the sweetest southern accent, her name started with an M, she was amazing. She handled her section, yes we waited but had no real complaints. The prices were a bit out of line with the food offerings. I paid $25.99 for some tender, juicy shrimp and $29.99 for a plate of "fried scallop" all were the size of a nickle and tasted like punched ray wing. A very entertaining, true Florida, off the beaten path experience. While the restaurant is not the best in the world, it's pretty good and the only option on a Tuesday night that we could find. The place was crowded and we were taken care of with the right level of attention. We stayed in the newly remodeled first floor of one of the buildings. There's still lots of cleanup and re-building to do. It's a little sad to see Steinhatchee suffer so much. But glad to see folks trying to make a go of life again.

Entering it kind of reminds you of a farmhouse, I guess. Pretty standard furnishings and decoration for a country diner sort of place. Of course, we were there for breakfast, so the standard diner breakfast was on the menu. The full menu consists of burgers, sandwiches, and a couple of barbecue dishes. If there were more screens mounted on the walls I would call it a sportsbar, but that isn't the case. Our orders were taken, and I had gone for eggs, hashbrowns, and corned beef because it was St Patty's Day. Realistically one of the few times that I have legitimately had food that was appropriate for the holiday. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time for a group of ten, so the kitchen and staff knew what they were doing. The food was fine... nothing to really shout out about, but also not bad. It was what I expected it to be, and that was good enough.

1906 Farmhouse 25405 W Newberry Rd, Newberry, FL 32669…read more ***SWILL ALERT*** Pulling up to the hitchin' post at the 1906 Farmhouse, all seemed well and fine. I don't mind themed restaurants (they can be fun). This place was designed to model the Farmhouse where the ranch hands gathered for meals before and after a long day of riding. I dug it. It gave off a warm, welcoming, one-of-the-family vibe. Kasey was my server for the meal and she was frowning before I asked one question. I placed an order for one Country Fried Steak with sides of Collard Greens and Mac & Cheese, along with some Strawberry Shortcake to round out the meal. I soon saw Cantankerous Kasey begrudgingly returning with my victuals. I don't understand this attitude. Am I supposed to be grateful she deigned to work here? Anyway, if any of you are curious like me, you may have often wondered what it was like to spend a day in jail. To that end, I admit, I got myself hauled off to the County Hoosegow. Wanting to make the most out of my tax dollars, I booked my stay to include lunch. The dry bologna sandwich you receive, along with the juice bag to wash it down, is something you try to forget. As I looked at the slop my trustee, Kasey, placed before me, I began to long for the county jail government issue bologna. The Country Fried Steak was fresh from the freezer and cooked with the precision of Stevie Wonder passing his behind-the-wheel driving test. I've been hit with hockey pucks softer than this garbage. The gravy was made in the Sysco factory and this had to be their bottom-grade slush. It was as tasty as flour and water. Wait. The sides were a step down from the entree, if that is possible. Just look at the pictures and tell me, does anything look appetizing? While I am not one to ever judge a book by its cover, as looks can be deceiving. In this case, they are not, and the adage 'a picture speaks a thousand words' is spot on. The Collard Greens were obviously from an industrial can. Hey, don't get me wrong, all restaurants use a food service, but you don't have to be cheap about it and try to finagle the dining population by using the lowest quality they have to offer. The Mac & Cheese looked more like something a dog regurgitated than actual food. It was dry and pasty on the palate--just the way it is not supposed to be. The Strawberry Shortcake is also food service, not unlike the stuff you got in high school, only worse. Kudos, 1906 Farmhouse, you officially serve Swill sans the fly. At least on this visit. The Big Boy says, "I wouldn't serve this SWILL to a dead dog."

I guess it began as a truck stop decades ago and then became solely a restaurant. Anyways, they have had a cosmetic refresh, painting the building, adding cute signage including some features explaining Bett's long history, and just made the dining rooms a down-home but clean and inviting place now. This goes a long way: I am all for hole-in-the-wall restaurants but you don't want a place to look dirty, either. Bett's no longer does. It looks comfortable and plain-spoken, honest, and home town now. The food has always been good. You get a menu dinner or daily special--things like chicken fried steak or liver and onions or fried mullet--and a choice of three sides. The sides range from mac-n-cheese and collards to normally a couple homemade desserts: the peach cobbler and strawberry cake both are not to be missed. Portions are generous. Their Friday and Saturday all-you-can-eat seafood dinner is also a real deal and good food. Red velvet cake, caramel cake, and lemon cake are hits too but less frequent in their menu appearances. Ford hook limas sometimes show up too, slowly cooked with bacon or ham and are awesome. The painting and general interior and exterior refresh really went a long ways with me to have greater confidence in Bett's. It's now easily a place I rank with some of the region's best country/Southern cooking restaurants.
