Royal's Restaurants - Curry Chicken Rice and Peas...Mac and Cheese - Caribbean Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Royal's has changed in the last 10+ years. It's still very good and flavorful. They have maintained covid restrictions (I guess). You can't go inside on Sunday?? I'm really not sure. But, I made sure I got my fix. The small Jerk platter is plenty big for 1. You'll have enough to spare. The Saucing has a really nice kick to it. read more

Their food is always the best to me to be honest I could care less about them not letting me in. I don't need it being sneaky. I just don't think they trust the public with the behavior as it is and I don't blame them. I would stand outside in the pouring rain for their food. read more

Royal's Restaurants - Jerk chicken, white meat, with rice and beans, mac & cheese, and cabbage with a mango jerk sauce. It's everything I need. - Caribbean Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Food was horrible along with the guy who came to the door to hand me the bag. The jerk chicken was more like baked chicken no jerk at all !!

This is what they call Seafood Salad, Tuna and Macaroni with Mayo and Old bay. The Oxtails are fatty and small. The best I've got from them is the Jerk Salmon and I noticed the Salmon is hit or miss in being dry. For what they charge it's not worth going there. read more

If I could give it negative stars I would, I used to be a frequent customer as I live in the area. However the food quality has drastically decreased. And post covid they still don't allow people to walk in and order their food and are subject to stand outside to wait for subpar food. read more

The food is always wonderful!! I especially like their grilled and mango salmon platters. Also, their sweet potato pie . I do miss not being able to eat in this restaurant. When they did have sit down eating - the atmosphere was warm, the service attentive, and food excellent as always!! read more

Just moved to the area and this was one of the places we'd looked up ahead of time to try. Glad we did because it was delicious! We got two large platters ($10 each) and ordered additional sides to try. Our favorite things were: Curry Chicken = very good Collard Greens = Amazing. As good as any I've ever had without being overly salty. Mac N Cheese = fantastic. What you always hope mac will be. The Corn Pudding = the GREATEST sweet cornbread style dish I've ever had. I just finished it a few minutes ago and I wish I had more even though I'm full. Will definitely be back. read more

But I Love their jerk mango salmon Lol it's this my second time gettin the same damn thing. I look forward to trying more items on there menu! Big up! read more

I appreciated the protocol of calling and ordering. I actually didn't know about this so I had to wait for 15 minutes, but make sure you call ahead of time before going there. The person who answered the phone was very nice and polite. Gave me an order number to give back at the door to receive my food. It was very efficient and getting my food was easy. Food was delicious ! Definitely worth getting. read more

Talk about good eating. SMH - Royals is Royal The first time I found this gem, as it was my first time they gave me a sample of every side item. Heaven, I was in heaven. I've had the oxtails and jerk chicken but my favorite is the Mango Wings. I enjoy every side as well. I've said I don't like reviews for Soul Food/Caribbean/Jamaican spots - but this spot is consistent. Every time causes me to remember why this is my spot of choice. I even do the travel for this good royal food. The staff are friendly and pleasant. It is now best to call and place your order. Once you arrive your meal is waiting. They take cashapp, cash and cards. You won't regret it. They also have a great tea. read more

I went to Royal's this past weekend (10/5), and it was my first time there. My husband and I ordered takeout. Phone impressions are very important to me, as that is sometimes my first interaction with a place of business. The woman who answered the phone was so pleasant, and so patient! She repeated my order back to me (we ordered a lot), and everything was correct. When I got there, a gentleman helped me with my order (I think he was the owner?). He joked with me as he knew it was my first time there, based off of the way I acted lol. He was VERY nice, as was the woman who rung me up...I think it was the same lady who took my order over the phone. Moving along... once we got home (and we drove 54 minutes from our home to the restaurant), we devoured our food!! I LOVE Jamaican/Caribbean food, and we have nothing out where we live ‍. This place is EVERYTHING! The jerk wings...amazing. The mac & cheese...amazing. The yams...amazing. The greens...amazing. The curried goat...amazing. The corn pudding...amazing. Everything was amazing lol. We got 4 platters in total and it only came to $48, and the portions are good! I'm dying to go back, and I can't wait to do so. I love to support my people, and it was well worth it! read more

Royal's Restaurants - Jerk BBQ wings, cabbage, and candied yams with a side of Mac & cheese - Caribbean Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The only reason this is not a 5 star review is because of the lack of communication. I wanted to surprise my family with authentic West Indian food for Mother's Day. So I did my due diligence, called ahead spoke with someone and did exact what they told me to do - come up to the location to place an order 2 days before to make sure the order is ready. I drove 20 minutes out of my way and I was sent away and told the complete opposite. I eventually got it all squared away the following day and was able to pay over the phone. The Jerk Salmon is what you want to order - with the Mac and cheese, peas and rice. Amazing! The other thing I love about them is; you get your money's worth! read more

I was visiting the area with my mom and she stumbled across this hidden gem. I am basing the review on her experience as well as the to-go order she brought for me. She stated that the lady working there was extremely friendly and let her try all the different dishes and the drinks. We ordered the shrimp curry and with the yellow rice and it was absolutely delicious. It was so savory and had unique flavors. Also the side of collard greens was super tasty. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a quick and tasty bite! read more

Oh no I ordered some sweets and there was a roach inside the plastic container, disgusting won't be going here again.

They have the best Jamaican food that I've ever had. Oxtail and rice and peas, mac and cheese is my favorite dish to get. The presentation is phenomenal and tastes amazing. Beef, chicken and spinach patties are great. Cabbage could be cooked down more, but it tastes very good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who has a craving for authentic Jamaican food. read more

My First time trying the food here and to say it's good is an understatement. It is Delicious. I was not disappointed. I had the oxtail, mac and cheese, and yams and it was soooo good. I liked the fact that it wasn't greasy and thrown together and very much appetizing. I can't wait to try other dishes they have. I'm so happy I gave them a try. I also had their Royal Tea and it is now my new favorite and so good as well. I definitely will be back. read more

The reviews don't lie, this place is so good! Our favorites are the jerk wings and the shrimpy curry platter with yellow rice and collard greens as the sides. We also always add the candied yams (OMG SO GOOD), corn pudding and mac n cheese. We want to try more of the menu but it's hard when these things are just always reliably delicious! We wish there was a little more order to the pandemic pick-up process, as we feel there's no clear line or way of waiting outside, so you end up with folks jumping ahead of you... which is frustrating when you've been waiting a while. read more

I'm never getting Caribbean food from anywhere else again! Hands down the best, most authentic tasting food on this side of Philly. As I ate my juicy oxtails I swore I started hearing a steel pan playing in the background. It took me back to Jamaica lol you won't be disappointed. Great portions, impeccably seasoned authentic Caribbean cuisine. *insert chef kiss read more

I am NEVER disappointed with this place. As soon as we walked in, we were pleasantly greeted with a beautiful smile. We ordered two platters of the same thing (oxtails, mac & cheese & yams) with cornbread pudding. I normally try the mango salmon which is amazing, but we wanted to try something different. We waited about 8-10 minutes for our food and this was around 1:30pm on a Saturday (not bad at all). The portions were just right for two large platters @ $26. Well worth it as the food was properly seasoned, the oxtails had a nice amount of meat on them and the cornbread was yummy. The place was clean and not too crowded. I will definitely return and I have to try out what appeared to be their Alaskan crab leg platter that was on the electronic menu. read more

I moved into the area a year ago and was ecstatic to find 2 West Indian spots next door to each other. Seafood is my go-to and the mango jerk salmon is good. I've had that several times. My Jamaican palate does compel me to savor some oxtails and curry goat every now and again. They do both well. The oxtails, especially, were cooked to perfection - thick meaty chunks with beans and tons of rich, flavorful gravy over rice and peas. I will never forget that meal (lol). Chicken, however, does not seem to be their strong suit. Or maybe I just don't have any luck when ordering it. I had some white-meat jerk chicken about a month ago and the quality of the meat was icky. Very trashy and red/brown, weird looking, on the inside. I had to pick at the parts that were edible. Didn't enjoy it at all. I figured it might just be a fluke since I hadn't been disappointed in a meal to that point. So, last night I ordered a curry chicken platter. Unfortunately, I was really bummed when I got home and started digging in. The flavor was there but the insides of the chicken pieces were mostly red and undercooked. I had to pick off only the top layers that looked okay, which was pretty unsatisfying. I really like this spot. It's very well-run, with cheerful and professional staff, and the owner is hands-on/personable. I will just stay away from the chicken, moving forward. read more

This business is pickup/take out only, with the pricing significantly higher than on the menu. Ordered a large curry goat platter (on menu at $11 actual price $18; small ox tail platter on menu at $11 actual price $20). The curry goat platter consisted of dried out beans/peas and rice, 80% meatless bones, and an extremely small portion of gravy. Unacceptable, at best. Fist impressions can be the most lasting. I will not return again, nor recommend Royal's. read more

The food here is delicious and so many options for your platter. They give first time customers an option to try a small sampler platter to try out all the sides before making your decision. I love this concept but it also makes it tougher because all the sides are sooo good. I went with the seafood salad (amazing macaroni style salad) and rice. My main dish was the jerk wings, which almost fell off the bones. Seasoning was perfect and nothing tasted bland at all. I want to go there and try out all the entrees now. read more

I have to admit. I'm a Jamaican D fan...FOR LIFE. So my review may be a bit biased. To me the food here is just ok. This place is kind of hit or miss. Some days they are closed during the posted Hours or Operations and some days they're open when they're supposed to be. I happended to venture past on a day they decided to be open and probably should have kept going to Jamaican D's. I got a platter with jerk chicken, rice and peas and potato salad (I know, I know. Two starches...YES!) and was......Underwhelmed. The chicken seemed dry but that likely is because I'm used to the jerk sauce Jamaican D's put on their platters. Also, the sides were just okay. I will say that the staff deserves 6 stars. I got my order to go but they seemed pretty popular cause the place was packed in the small dining area with a lot of the after church crowd on a Sunday. read more

The restaurant has undergone a total renovation! It looks really beautiful inside. The staff was super helpful. I order oxtail, collard greens, rice and beans. Since we were first time customers, we were given samples of Mac and cheese, cabbage and yams. The cabbage was so good, I changed my order. I washed all the food down with a kola champagne and was in heaven. The hilarious thing is, the restaurant only has one menu. This truly a takeout restaurant, although it has accommodations for sitting to eat. Before leaving, the staff person, John, informed me of he wide selection of vegetarian dishes and that the desserts are only $2! Can't beat that. Please go and support this business. Nice people and good food. read more

I apologize Royal's. I apologize for my previous review because I warned people about the neighborhood. This restaurant is WORTH visiting. The interior is so modern and much more inviting and welcoming. But what is this new place inviting you to? The food. The food is still cooked with much love. Every since Royal's closed it's doors a year ago, I have visited many Jamaican places around the area and none (I repeat NONE) have ever filled in that void that Royal's has made in my stomach. The food is full of flavor and doesn't overpower you to a sleep coma. I love every item on their menu and more. This hidden secret gem is worth taking all of your out of town friends there. In the year Royal's was closed, Angela has never forgotten that it was all about the food and you can certainly tell she loves what she does. And you will too! read more

I first entered this restaurant after driving by. My friend is a vegetarian and very picky about what he eats. We entered and the ambiance is vibrant with a cool and friendly vibe. We were greeted by the staff..which is always a plus! We were told about all the vegetarian choices and even given samples of the sides. Which is unheard of in a typical west Indian restaurant. I loved it. The guy...I didn't ask his name...I know shame..was proud of the restaurant proud of the food they served. I like people who take pride in food...it shows that they work on perfection. My friend ordered stew king fish with rice and peas which came with cabbage and some vegetables. It tasted great. The fish was just right. It wasn't soaked with gravy, but had some on top. It was well seasoned. When return, this is where we are heading for lunch and or dinner. read more

Pretty good experience, got my monies worth. Usually I order from jamaican d's, but decided to let yelp find a "new" spot. called Royals, placed my order -large oxtail, beans and rice, cabbage and a side of Mac and cheese. the pleasant young lady said it would be 10 mins..yes.. that quick! Score! Walked into Royals, which looks newly renovated..very clean,welcoming...the young lady showed me my food before bagging it, nice touch..I had apprehensions about the mac and cheese by the appearance but decided to give it a shot.. Oxtails were succulent and meaty as advertised Cabbage was sooooo yummy, very well seasoned Rice and beans were ok Mac and cheese was not good imo, it lacked flavor and the most important thing: cheese! For the $16 I paid plus $2 for a ginger ale, I wasn't disappointed but I know to skip the mac next time read more

To have a person wait over 45 min for food is pathetic! They lost me! I really wanted to give them a good review, but I just couldn't. I thought they were back there killing the chicken. I typically go to Talk of town but on Sundays they are. closed. I was told to try them totally my mistake, let's say lesson learned! I came in with other people they came left and a new group came left and I am still waiting I walked in at 4: 51 pm and as of 5:40 pm I am still waiting on food! I received my food at 5:46 pm!! I couldn't call ahead because I didn't know the menu! Let's talk about the food - The stew chicken a bunch of baby chicken legs no meat on most of the legs but didn't see meat in food! For 9.00 I expected meat, not bones! Thank God I also ordered jerk chicken white, I have tasted better bland food to have to wait almost an hour I am pure disgusted!!
