Please check out the photo captions with all the food and the receipt information. 20% discount was supposed to be until 11:00am, but ate at this restaurant after 12:00pm and the head manager surprisingly gave us 10%! On the table, there was a promotional advertisement if going to this restaurant often. Translating Chinese to English, purchase a $300 or $500 gift card, the restaurant would offer a $20.00 savings. Grub: Prawn Dumpling The usual. Got to have EVERY TIME for Dim Sum. REPEAT PLEASE Pork & Shrimp Shiu Mai The usual. Got to have EVERY TIME for Dim Sum. REPEAT PLEASE Steamed Beef Ball This is a classic dish of beef balls. An old-fashioned dish REPEAT on my list. Beef Tendon I like eating dish once a whole. They say the tendons help our own tendons. Sticky Rice with Lotus After eating the dice beef noodle, I realized we over order. Just ordering the beef noodle, there's no no need for more carbs. The Sticky rice is very good and smooth texture that gives a nice taste on the tongue. Bean Curd with Fish Paste This rice roll with fish paste inside is my first time ordering. If you like fish paste in middle of things, you will like this one. Veggie with Tofu Skin This has goji berries in soup. This is a nice balanced healthy dish. I recommend this as a REPEAT. Dice Beef Noodle Wow! These dish is quite big. And has a nice display. Please refer to the photo and caption for identification. Tasty and fulfilling! I recommend this dish at least once. If going with a big group, then a REPEAT on the list. Mini Egg Tarts I LOVE egg tarts. I found these quite small. Honestly I would go somewhere else for egg tarts. Thirst: Tea Apparently it's becoming more common for restaurants to charge for tea, in this case $4.50. I recommend this restaurant if looking for quality and convenience.

There are lots of different dim sum restaurants across town but we like to try different places - which explains how we wound up at Royal Seafood Restaurant in Richmond. It's located on the 2nd floor of the Garden City Shopping Centre mini mall located at the corner of Blundell and Garden City Road. When we arrived on an early Sunday morning, there were plenty of tables available but they did fill later on (still not a huge line-up tho'). Most items that we tried on this visit were $7.45 (except for the dessert dish that turned out to be $4.35). The first dish to arrive was the Spicy Beef Tripe. The honeycomb tripe was fairly tender but we didn't notice the spiciness until afterwards when the chili sauce hits the back of your throat. Next was the steamed Shrimp and Pea Tips dumplings which is a nice departure from the regular har gow. I found that the Beef Rice Rolls were a bit basic but satisfying. For dessert, we ordered the Mango Pudding - which was a fairly firm incarnation. The presentation could use a bit of an upgrade from the 4 blocks of pudding that we received (a very utilitarian display). The last dish to arrive at our table was the Baked BBQ Pork Buns with a pineapple crust topping. These came out freshly baked and had a soft and warm bbq pork filling. The cute turtle shape didn't detract me from eating it. Overall, most of the dim sum dishes here were pretty good so we decided to return for a visit in late September to try more of their dim sum dishes. The Deep Fried Shrimp Spring Rolls (L) came out hot and had a nice crispy bite to them. As if we didn't need more fried foods, we ordered the Deep-Fried Silver Thread Buns. I felt like these came out a bit dense and not as light and airy as it should be on the inside. Next were the Chicken Feet in Spicy Sauce (M). Followed by the Coconut Osmanthus Pudding (S). I really like how this came out (a bit more decorative appeal compared to their mango pudding). Actually, I really liked this - especially mixing the flavours together in one bite. But we weren't done yet... We also ordered the Special Rice Roll with Fish Paste and Bean Curd. It's funny because I've only just started noticing this rice roll dish being served at more dim sum places recently. While the fish paste filling in the middle was quite nice, I thought the bean curd wrap that encased it wasn't crispy enough. Lastly, we finished things off with an order of Steamed Beef Balls. These were a bit basic and lacking in flavour.

Food Quality: 1/5 - Inedible Service: 1/5 - Dismissive and at times rude Ambience: 3/5 - Festive.. in the Chinese sense if you could call it that. It's Sunday morning, which naturally means Dim Sum time for the typical Chinese person living in Richmond. Vic and I venture off to the nearest dim sum hang out, Royal Seafood Restaurant 粤海山庄 in Blundell Plaza in Richmond. We've been here once in the past but the experience was utterly unmemorable, so we decided to refresh our memories. This second experience was unforgettable. Fried egg tofu, as we know it, should be gently fried on the outside but silky smooth on the inside, a gift from the heavens. This egg tofu was scorched from the fires of Mordor. The texture of the outside layer is so rough that you'd think you're eating fried chicken. As for the Chinese donut in rice roll, the pictures say it all. After eating away the end pieces, we revealed the hollow rock-hard inner pieces that were literally inedible. They were also fried to a crisp brittle colour of brown, which alludes to the level of chaffing that the top of my mouth suffered as I chomped down. It still hurts as f. At this point, we waved down a waitress, who promptly responded curtly in Cantonese "What do you want?" We explained that the Chinese donut rice roll was inedible and she proceeded to explain that "this is how it is meant to be". We insisted that this is an unacceptable standard of service and after some grumbling, the waitress gave us a 10% off our bill. As for the others: Chrysanthemum and goji berry jello: very low on the flavour. It tasted like slightly sweetened gelatinous goo. Golden seafood shrimp dumpling with "con" (corn?): Not good.. The taste of green onion in the dumplings were over powering. Generally you would not find green onion in steamed shrimp dumplings. Shrimp and pea tip dumpling: This was the only saving grace of the meal. The dumpling skin was the right elasticity and the shrimp tasted fresh and bouncy. At $2 a piece, I would've expected as much. The damage was done and our lesson is learned. We wouldn't be coming back. Full review on my blog: http://darnhonestopinions.blogspot.ca/2017/02/royal-seafood-restaurant-never-again.html

*Disclaimer: I'm white. This is important in the Dim Sum world bc 99.9% of patrons are Cantonese and their opinion of this place is respectably of more value. I have married into a Chinese family and have been going to a variety of Dim Sum restaurants for the past 7 years so I have some, albeit limited, street cred. Ambiance: Actually quite clean and new for a Dim Sum restaurant. Typical Dim Sum experience: loud, crowded, 99% Asian patrons. Missing the Dim Sum carts though. Food: Excellent Dim Sum for the price. All the typical Dim Sum favorites are on the menu. My family says the Har Kow is excellent. Price: You can't beat $2.88 a dish! Service: Typical Dim Sum routine of flagging down waiters although the service here is a bit more friendly than I'm used too. Overalls: A great, clean Dim Sum with an excellent price point.

4 stars for ambience, decor & parking. It's considered out in the boonies for Richmond, away from the DT core. Surprisingly, quite busy. But didn't wait more than 5 min to get a seat. Typical, crammed tight. Indeed a gorgeous restaurant by today's standards, wedding banquet material. For the dim sum, just above average, nothing to knock your feet off but good value. Ordered the usual as per pics. 3 private rooms, one of which prob fits 12 easily with a few sofas to rest around. Good service. Located in big plaza, Blundell/Garden City. Accept cards. Possible repeat.

Our family ventured into this restaurant for dim sum on Sunday. It's been quite a while since the last visit & we were pleasantly surprised at the service. The renovations (completed a couple of years) made the place very bright. Food was good- only one thing we ordered didn't get delivered. For 5 people the bill came to $90+. There is a choice of tea - Jasmine goes great with everything. Service was good- very efficient - an empty dish was quickly taken away as soon as the dish was finished. Recommend going back here again.

The Dim Sum of this restaurant was not bad, I think it was better than the medium level. We ordered some Dim Sum made by shrimps, they were fresh. The waitress was friendly and smiling all the time! Have a 10% off of Dim Sum with a VIP card. Have a 20% off before 11am. $17/person.

I had my banquet wedding reception here yesterday. I must say the service was exceptional! I got my refills when I wanted. The dishes served promptly and according to schedule. My guests were very happy with the service as well, they got their drinks at the bar when they asked for it, and overall great service. They hire top waiters and waitresses I've seen before at top restaurants. The layout of the restaurant was perfect! very spacious, enough to fit all my guests. Very good lighting and Audio Visual. They have hard wood so I was able to have a dance floor with my own custom playlist! The place was so nice I didn't even had to do bring or setup my own decor. Food was top notch. I was able to modify my set menu to what I wanted. Every dish that came out was extremely delicious and unique. My guests told me how they loved the food so much. I would highly recommend this place to others for their wedding reception.

She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. Yes come on a date or impress business clients/boss or family celebrations.

I have many Chinese friends in Vancouver, and my last visit to Kirin Richmond was in July 2024…read more This time, it was my birthday, and my friends insisted on treating me to Kirin Richmond once again. On a typical Sunday evening, the restaurant is usually fully occupied, but my friend had thoughtfully made a reservation a week in advance, so our table for five was ready upon arrival. As always, the restaurant was clean and well maintained, with good airflow thanks to the wide-open front entrance facing the parkade. The front desk receptionist greeted us cordially, and we were escorted to a cozy table in a comfortable location -- not too close to the washrooms, which I appreciated. Our meal began with the Kirin Special Assorted Cold Appetizer, followed by Crab Meat, Dried Scallops, and Fish Maw Soup. The soup arrived piping hot and was delicious, with a generous portion that could easily have served eight people. We also enjoyed Pea Tips Braised with Bean Curd and Assorted Mushrooms in Consommé, Marinated Free-Range Crispy Skin Chicken, Fillet of Cod Sautéed with Seasonal Vegetables, and Live Crab in Consommé with Ginger and Green Onion, served with E-fu Noodles. Overall, the quality and taste of every entrée were excellent. Service was top-notch -- tea and hot water were refilled constantly, bones and used plates were replaced promptly, and the servers were friendly and engaging throughout the evening. My friend and his family have apparently been regulars at this location for over two decades, which likely contributed to the exceptional attentiveness we received. However, one aspect of the experience genuinely disturbed me. All servers, including the captains, continued to wear masks at all times. While this practice was understandable two years ago, now -- five years after the onset of the pandemic, with COVID-19 managed similarly to other seasonal respiratory illnesses -- the continued universal masking in a fine-dining environment feels unnecessary and detracts from the overall guest experience. Fine dining, in my view as an avid foodie, is built on human connection, hospitality, and personal interaction. Masks create a more impersonal, almost clinical atmosphere. In a well-ventilated space like this, the environmental risk does not seem to justify the visual and social trade-off. Rather than providing reassurance, the persistent masking may unintentionally signal that the environment is unsafe or that management is out of step with current provincial health guidelines, where masking is now a personal choice rather than a mandate. Final verdict: Food & Service: 5/5 Ambience: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 -- as the current aesthetic feels more like a relic of 2020 than a leader in 2026 hospitality.

May be it's because we are all in "food coma" by the end of dinner! This visit was for dinner - and we were outside the door waiting even before they opened at 5:30. On a Tuesday. And we were already second in line. Celebrating a birthday, we had cold jellyfish starter, lobster fried e-fu mein, braised pomelo skin with seafood, and beef fried kai lan. The lobster was perfectly cooked. Even slight over-cooking can make the lobster meat tough. However, every piece was perfectly cooked. Including the large claws. Cooked with ginger and scallions, the lobster gravy coated each strand of e-fu noodles to umami yumminess. The braised pomelo skin was a special seasonal dish. I have not had this dish in many decades, and when I saw this in the special seasonal menu, I had to get it. The bittersweet braised pomelo skin complemented perfectly the fresh seafood, and topped a bed of Chinese spinach. It was the first time for the other members of my family and they literally sucked it all down. The beef with kai lan was another standout. Beef slices were tender and delicious and that perfectly complemented the well seared gai lan - great evidence of wok hei. Service is exemplary. Not just for a Chinese restaurant, but for any restaurant. The servers are constantly on the alert, and Everytime they see a plate filled with lobster shells, they would whip it away and replace it with a clean plate. They made sure that tea cups were filled and kept us updated with the delivery of the next dish. And at the end of the meal, dessert (Tong Shui) was complimentary... and they added a wonderfully light and flaky walnut cookie and piece of mochi for each of us.

We dropped by Chef Tony's not for dim sum this time, but for a dinner that turned into a delightful adventure. And let me tell you, the dinner menu is every bit as much of a superstar as their famous dim sum spread. We started with their elegant truffle chicken, which came out like a work of art--shredded truffle and all. The fish dishes were equally impressive: a delicate stir-fried fillet with snow peas that was light yet flavorful, and a crispy, salty fish dish that had us all nodding in appreciation. Add in a glass noodle dish with cabbage that felt like a cozy hug, and a plate of garlicky greens to keep things balanced. And yes, someone slipped in a sweet and sour pork for that old-school comfort. The ambience was a notch above your typical Cantonese joint--think upscale decor and a lively, bustling dining room that still felt welcoming. And the service? Well, it came with a side of comedy. We had one waiter who was so gruff and hurried that he turned our group photo attempt into a running joke for the night. We ended up laughing about it and getting a nicer waitress to take a proper photo, but honestly, it just added to the charm. So if you're looking for a dinner spot that combines top-notch Cantonese flavors with a bit of unfiltered, authentic personality, Chef Tony's is your place. We'll definitely be back--maybe next time for the dim sum brunch!
