I visited this place when it first opened and got a roti. Haven't been here in quite a while. My cousin wanted to stop to get food from here. I decided to get something as well. I ended up getting rice and peas with stew chicken. The medium container is $13. I think that's a fair deal. It came with a side of steamed vegetables and plantains. Overall it was tasty. Not overly salty like a lot of places. I feel it was a good portion. I am 61 about 190 lb. It filled me up. I do know they also have a lunch special we can get a meal at a cheaper price. They are located within feet of a high school. I'm sure that really helps with business. The sorrol drink was sweet with a nice amount of ginger I may have found a new place. On a side note, I am becoming more health conscious about portion sizes. I think I'll try this small next time to see how filling it is. read more

I really hate to leave these type of reviews but I stay true to providing an honest and accurate review. I ordered a beef roti and it was literally disgusting! The curry was so watery with no taste and the beef was hard. I remember when they first opened, it tasted better. I haven't been here in months and decided to go there because I had a taste for a roti. I was so disappointed. After about 3 bites, i threw it in the garbage. Total waste of money and it's not cheap either!!! Not sure if I'll give it another try, that's honestly how bad it was. I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The customer service is truly awful--especially from one staff member in particular. A shorter woman, who claimed she's been there the longest, was shockingly rude and dismissive. Even her coworkers quietly admitted she can be difficult and often acts like she's in charge. When I brought up an issue about a stale item I received, she refused to offer a refund and walked away without so much as an apology. She then called over a man--presumably to help--but when he came out, he told me he was just the cook and couldn't do anything. So why was he called in the first place? At that point, it was clear they were just playing games with a customer. Both of them were rude and completely unprofessional. The food didn't make up for it either. The roti skins were dripping with oil, and the curry was bland and flavorless. If you're looking for good roti and curry, I highly recommend Trincity in Queens. Not only is the food much better, the staff is also respectful and welcoming--unlike the experience I had at Royal Roti Shop on Grand Ave in Baldwin, NY. Save yourself the time and frustration. Disclosure, Im no expert in Roti. I just know to order some doubles and whatever else looks good. Ordered delivery, goat and chicken doubles, plus an aloo pie with chana. I can say the curry flavor with the roti was delicious - to me. The aloo pie didn't travel well, but nothing the air fryer couldn't fix up. Everything here is terrible. From the tasteless chow mein, the rotten chicken that they try to pass off as fresh, over priced drinks, tough meats (duck, oxtail, pepper pot, goat), I will never step foot in here again. I gave them 3 chances over the course of a year. The curry chicken that they put in the chicken doubles was slimy and rotten. I couldn't believe my tastebuds when I ate my lunch. Disgusting. This place should be reported to the board of health. The goat and oxtail were so tough. Baldwin has a new Trinidad restaurant. Located in the busy shopping center will surely increase their visibility. First on my list to try is a double with pepper sauce. The bake is just what I expected- light, fluffy and delicious. The chickpeas were perfectly prepared with the texture I'm very familiar with. The pepper sauce was not blazing hot and flavorful. I can't complain at all. I ordered a curry goat roti for the husband to try. I'm sure he will be pleased. Yes, I am already planning my next visit. I will never go back to this establishment.... After many years of going there for doubles I will take my business elsewhere. I usually ask for my doubles deconstructed so they don't get soggy. Everytime they mention that they can do it they just have to charge me extra for the containers andI always say that's fine. Today, I waited in line for 20 mins just for me to get to the front and the lady tells me that they don't do that and have never don't that. I explained that I've done this many times and had no problem. She then asked me to name the people who give me my doubles like that and I think that is highly unacceptable considering multiple employees have accommodated my request. Just came back from this place got an eggball and a few other items. I'm a regular customer since they opened and honestly the food has never been 100% but I've been try to support a local Caribbean place. NOW TODAY WAS THE WORSE EXPERIENCE!! I bought an eggball and a few other items, non were great as usual but the egg was not cooked in the eggball. It literally spilled when we cut the eggball open. I called to let them know, they transferred me to 3 different people to repeat the thing. When I was getting transferred to the 4th person I said why are you asking me what's wrong again I just told 3 people. And I know you heard becasue someone yelled something like "it's the eggball issue again" Clearly it's an issue someone else reported today. This place had me phone wasting time, laughing, lying, and not even offering any solutions or apologies. I was going to go show them the eggball but for $3 its not even worth it. First off, those who know West Indian food would never consider this the best. I came here because I'm am too lazy to drive to queens. But after my last visit, I'm never coming back. On my first visit, I tried the duck curry and roti. The duck tasted like pure garam masala. My second visit, I didn't get much. I was craving West Indian breakfast... I showed up at 9AM for doubles. The girl who worked there said nothing was ready. My third visit, again craving curry , I went around 10AM. Got the chicken roti...I thought, wow, what an improvement! It's must of been a different chef because the chicken was tasty, and everything was just right. It could be because it just came out, who knows. MY FINAL VISIT - I was craving that chicken roti...when I got there, they had no type of roti left, only rice. So I got the chicken curry and rice, with some potatoes. Now I sit here. Feeling like crap. The chicken was super dry, and the rice was stale. Let's not forget, the potato was spoiled!!!!!!!!!!! I took my coworker who lives in Richmond hill to this place and we both agreed, this is the worst chicken curry and rice ever. Royal is a reminder of how West Indian food SHOULD NOT taste like. I could have easily chosen to order Italian, Chinese or some chicken fast food and $ much less, but I wanted to support BOC (Business of Color). Even if that meant paying 20 percent more for a rice and meat meal. I placed an order with royal it was a simple order of Oxtail Rice and peas, stew chicken with rice and peas, and a double order of roti. I paid a hefty $$$$$ plus a tip to receive mushy inedible rice without the peas which had a spoiled smell and taste, Oxtails which were literally bones with a sauce NO MEAT ON THE BONE. The stewed chicken consisted of dried cut-up chicken legs which tasted spoiled and had the same inedible mushy wet rice NO PEAS, ONE BUTTER BEAN which was cold. And instead of the double roti they sent 1. Where is the pride in serving the public? This is how you treat the community that want to see you grow? Zero star!!! I drove all the way from the east end in horrible traffic all excited to try this place. However much disappointed by the young lady at the counter who was extremely unfriendly and annoyed with me asking questions about their menu and entrees which they have a huge selection of. I certainly was not treated professionally as she kept rolling her eyes at me and as if she did not want to be bothered by questions about their food on display which I wanted to pick out and which of course did not have any signs on them!!! I ended up ordering duck curry and goat curry. Goat was was blend and too salty. I love this place. Like most things nowadays it's not exactly inexpensive, but I feel they give you large enough portions that you get value for your money. Their jerk chicken is well seasoned, and ALL their roti fillings are on point! Their roti skins are always fresh made and delicious. You know when they say "some people hand got seasoning in them"? Well that's this place. And I like that you can go in and see all the food behind glass in front of you. It can help with deciding what you want. There's too many items on the menu. A mistake more restaurants make. Roti is never available after 12 noon. The staff is okay but they can be better. There's one black lady there, she's really sweet. Other than that, everyone is very stand off-ish. No one greets you. There's some food that unidentifiable, they should put signs next to the food so customers know what they buying. I went to this place a week after their grand opening and I was disappointed. I want a veggie bowl however they don't have green veggies to choose from like spinach or okra. Since I was very hungry I order what they had under the showcase. 1. The dal was cold......this can lead to possible food poisoning. 2. They only had white rice, and the woman gave me too much after I told her little rice. She remove half the rice and apologized which was fine. 3. Their Channa did not look as though it was season and no gravy. It look plain so I decided to skip it. 4. The curry potatoes and pumpkin did not have enough flavor. 5. Pay attention to the cashier screen as the woman almost charge me for an item I did not purchase. She was able to correct it after I pointed out to her. I went there for the first time, and I asked a lady for a chicken double with potato upon me, reminding her that I wanted that she interrupted and asked me what sauce when I asked for the potato and Domingo she refused to give it to me because she needed to make space but I asked for it prior and she cut me off.
