Thursday 5/2/2024 It's been a while but I have finally visited a new Maryland Dutch market. I spent around 2 hours shopping inside the market as I made sure to visit nearly all the vendors and get all the items I was interested in trying for the first time. First stop was the candy vendor where I got a quarter pound of cookies n cream fudge $3.98. Then the Bakery vendor where I got a carrot cake (whole) $21, cream cheese cinnamon buns $7.59, white icing cinnamon buns $7.59, pumpkin roll (whole) $10, and a carrot cake roll (whole) $9. Then I went to the donut vendor where I got a dozen assorted donuts $15 but I only had a glazed, chocolate Oreo, fruity pebble, Dutch crumb filled, and s'more. Then the fresh produce & juices vendor where I got an orange juice half gallon $14, strawberry lemonade $10, and blackberry lemonade $10. Then the pizza vendor where I got a slice of their bbq chicken pizza $4.55. Then Ben's bbq where I spent $43.68 and got less than half a pound (.40) of their bbq ribs, a quarter pound beef brisket, stuffed chicken breast meal with 2 sides (smoked Mac n cheese & mashed potatoes), and 14x assorted wings (bbq, smoked, Cajun, honey bbq, old bay, seasoned, and bourbon). Then the log & pretzel vendor where I got a Cajun crab log $7, beef brisket log $8, cinnamon sugar pretzel $4, and a side of white icing 0.75$. Then Verna's sub shop where I got an 8 inch steak n cheese sub $12.49 and large boardwalk fries $7. Then the farmer's cookhouse where I spent $23.82 and got a 3pc dark meal with 2 sides of wedges, 1 fried chicken breast, and a pulled pork sandwich. Finally, I stopped at the pig roast vendor (special pig roast event) where I got a pig roast sandwich $9. On today, 1 July, 2026, I visited Royal Pawn Brokers, in Hagerstown, MD. I'm retired Navy and a Vietnam veteran! My original purpose was to buy a EGO 57 battery; the battery was gone, so I browsed the items on the shelves and in the cabinets looking for a bargain. An automatic pistol caught my eye and I inquired about it... The woman behind the counter briefed me as the make and model of the pistol. She than asked if I had a HQL, to which I replied... Yes! I have a copy on my cellphone. In reply, the woman said: Oh we don't accept that, you're have to give us the original because I have to fully identify you. My reply: OK, you can print it from my phone! She refused to print a copy of my HQL, insisting that she has to verify my HQL before she can sell me the pistol! In Maryland, you have to attend classes and be certified in firearm safety prior to purchasing a firearm. Upon completion, you are issued a form that verifies that you have met all qualification to buy a firearm. In addition, there is a thirty day wait before you can actually pay for the firearm! The wait is to give you a chance to cool down, if you are buying the firearm to use in the commission of a felony! Did I say I was retired Navy? Did I say that I was a Vietnam veteran? Oh, again, I'm retired... eighty-two years old as well! All my income comes from a federal source, meaning the mere purchase of a firearm in the State of Maryland under false pretense is a felony! My pensions and SSA vanish the moment I falsify a document, especially without the properly credentials! The lady said: She had to call in my HQL to even think about selling me the pistol! This is what she didn't do: ¹ Asked to see my ID. With my ID, she should could have verified my HQL was legit, made that call using the HQL stored on my phone. She refused ask or to look at my IDs. ² I originally qualified to possess a firearm in 2013. I had my expired copy of my HQL, and the new one dated 2023! A preliminary check would have given her all of the information she needed to make that call... She didn't! As an after thought, she said she thought the pistol was 1250! That was her third attempt to persuade me that the price alone would make me back off the thought of purchasing the firearm! By my avatar, you can understand how I took her denial! I can't say that it was an act of prejudice, but the reasons you used to not verify me insinuate as much! You are duty bound to certify that I am a valid candidate to buy a firearm that you have prominently displayed as an item for sale! She said that herself! Businesses that interface with me are supposed to give me the same opportunity to buy products displayed to whomever makes an offer to buy... It didn't happen! read more

At first I only came here to buy cheese, butter and snacks. Then I ate at one of the stands. Now I want to eat here every time I visit. Bonus for coming on Thursday or Friday. It's not as busy- still busy, but not unmanageable. I love this place with every fiber of my being! read more

This was a nice place to visit. The wonderful smells when we walked in of the baked goods, the sight of the fresh fruits and vegetables. Most importantly the helpfulness of all the employees to locate different items. I wish they had more or longer hours! Amazing Everything. Come in the door, go left and left again--the pretzels (Old Bay, Cinnamon, etc.) fresh and great. Continue around the corner to the right---the bakery has Quiche's and Cheesecake and Pies (All Amazing) the cheesecake is to die for....I mean the best. Pepper Cabbage (vinegar cole slaw) pretty amazing, and then the ribs are as well. You cannot go wrong with this place. A fun place to go with family. They have everything you could possibly want. Cheeses, meats, donuts, bulk candy, pickles, gifts, whoopie pies, pies, sandwiches, pizza, cold cuts, furniture, produce, sheds, a small eating area. It's always crowded but the lines move fast. Be aware that each "vendor" is separate and you have to pay at each place. The service is always friendly, everyone has a smile and the prices are pretty good too. read more

BEN'S BBQ-I was standing next to a gentleman that was ordering a chicken to be freshly butchered. I was the next in line. I was standing there with my daughter. No one else was around. My daughter left. Some other people came up to where the bell was. After a 15 minute wait the service lady said who was next (even though I know she saw me twice as she turned around while butchering the chicken, and when she and went back to go talk to somebody in the back, then came back and started butchering the chicken again. She took forever to butcher one chicken... ). I said "I am." And then this woman, who was apart of the other group of people- who came up waiting at least 5 minutes after me, raised hell! Said that she was here "the whole time;" butt in front of me, said that she wants some pot pie and waived cash in her hand.. The poor woman behind the counter was so afraid of her with that obnoxious, loud, and rude behavior, that she decided to just take her first. I took up for myself and tried to plead my case kindly, but after the group got loud and ignorant, I just walked away. This is the Pennsylvania Dutch market we're talking about. I've never had anything so crazy happen to me in all my years here in Hagerstown, but that's what Hagerstown is turning into, the people keep flooding in. Manners are no more. It's not that I don't understand a busy Saturday... this went beyond that. There was no acknowledgement of "I'll be right with you" or "sorry about the wait" or even acknowledging that she had another customer. This was the BBQ's service lady's complete disregard of her soundings and inability to say anything to that obnoxious, rude woman, and the Ben's BBQ team working together... Waiting 10-15 minutes as the second person in line waiting is ridiculous enough... but to ignore a patiently waiting customer to serve another customer who's quite literally being obnoxious or rude or loud, is enough for me to never return. Because if your staff tolerate it, by all means be treated like that; as for me- I won't." read more

This is a small Dutch Market that has everything you could ever want like fresh produce, home made baked goods, fried chicken (this is sooo good), even hand crafted wood furniture and bird houses. They even carried table linens, soaps and home decor. Your eyes will go crazy and your tummy will rumble so enter with caution! Preferably with a full stomach. We bought produce and a variety of salads, breads, and cakes. So far everything was fresh and had a homemade taste. We will make the 40 minute drive back to purchase more products. It was that good. However, I'm just wondering (this is no way a complaint), what happens to all the perishable food left over Saturday evening until the store reopens the following Thursday morning? There was a significant amount of food remaining at closing Saturday evening that may exceed its shelf life by the time they reopen Thursday morning. I learned about the place when I was visiting my friend in Hagerstown. She recommended Pennsylvania Dutch Market so we went there together. I got some fruit pizza & other foods. I loved their fruit pizza! We went back again the next day to grab more. They are only open during the weekends. I always stop by to get my fruit pizza! Really delicious! The Dutch market is amazing!! I love the store with the pretzel dogs. There is truly something for everyone in the market. It is a great place to stop and grab lunch (there are tons of options), or you can grab things to bring home. The pie market is delicious and has extremely helpful employees. I also grabbed some pizza dough from the pizza store to make my own pizza at home. In my optioning the dough was the best in the area! The market has a large selection of venders with a variety of products. Must eat a slice of the homemade pizza and shop the bulk sections.

We use this place to get locally sourced dairy products. Its a lot better than a trip down to Fredneck or up to Chambersburg to get the same thing. The place is always busy & crowded. I don't like crowded but if thats what it takes to keep a place open.... The home made pies are kinda expensive & with no ingrediant list on them. Not worth the risk. read more

Simplicity in a modern world is hard to find. Here, simple, hard-working folks gather together to sell fresh prepared foods, quality butcher meats, several restaurants, baked goods, homemade candy, and well-made country furnishings. What's not to love about local goods? After the first visit, we returned two more times in less than a month... and we brought friends. Baked goods: I'm an apple fritter connoisseur and their fritters are the real deal. While I've yet to enjoy their other baked goods, they are stocked with fresh baked treats to put any nearby grocery stores and bakeries to shame. Restaurants: There are a small handful of options, but I've only visited their BBQ joint. The rotisserie chicken was cooked well, their pulled chicken sandwich was tasty, the mashed potatoes were reminiscent of grandma's cookin', the BBQ carrots were surprisingly flavorful and their iced tea was fresh-made. Not the best BBQ I've ever had, but the fresh quality and homemade-style options make it one of the best food options in Hagerstown. Candy store: simply put: the fudge was fudge-tastic! Why is there so much chicken, how is there so much chicken, and what do they do with it all when they are closed? Yeah the doughnuts are pretty tasty and the pretzels are too. I could probably spend all day here. What I love: This market is an experience for your senses, especially your nose! From the moment you walk in, the enticing smell of baked goods overwhelms you in the most delicious way. As you make your way around the abundant and colorful produce and cheese counter, the smell of rustic wax melts and candles waft delicately through the primitive section (my favorite)! And then.. the food stands. Oh my. Such delicious smells!! From homemade southern style cooking booths, to the gourmet donuts, danishes and pastry booth, to the bbq booth, the pretzel booth, the ice cream booth, the meat market where they make a variety of sausages daily by hand and expertly carve various meats, and back around to the front where you find the old fashioned candy isle and desserts, and finally a pizza booth where the freshly rolled dough and pizzas cooking in the oven will make you hungry no matter how full you are! There is no easy choosing, this place has it all! I absolutely love the hand crafted furniture (both outside and inside.) I saw the table of my dreams here, a gorgeous live edge tree slab with picnic style bench and chairs. Also noticed in that area were hand carved/crafted items such as high chairs, hutches, cabinets, bedroom sets, chests, rocking horses (and a rocking motorcycle for the future Harley enthusiast!) A large consortium of Danish/Amish nic-nacs, pastries, foods, and woods goods (oh how I want one of those $400 rocking chairs). So what else is here? Full blown meat/butcher counter, cheese tasting counter, and my favorite, the candy/fudge counter. Get ready to call your self Amos, because your going to get into the spirit when you come in here. The people are extremely friendly and were going over the top to help out with questions. I was having a 'I feel like being a fatty day' and ended up with six donuts, sticky buns, a loaf of wheat bread, and vanilla icing container for $15. And you know what - best sticky buns I've had. Each one must have weighed over a pound. Don't come here expecting a hipster haven of $22 hamburgers and fixed gear bicycles. Do come here if you want to walk around, sample, and get your Amish on. Don't be fooled by the run-down shopping center...once you are inside, the PA Dutch Market is pretty cool. There are about 10 vendors spread throughout the market, and you pay at each individual booth (be careful about this...I caught myself walking off with items I hadn't paid for a few times, and the vendors were too nice to say anything! Easy to do, because you are walking around with your cart...). There is a candy area up front, dried goods, a bakery, a pizza/pretzel/ice cream shop, a meat counter, a produce counter, a BBQ place, a sub shop, a fresh dairy and salads area, and Amish furniture and quilts. There are several places to buy food and tables where you can sit and eat. Plenty of vegetarian options at the sub shop (and also pizza). They even had asparagus fries! Prices are good. My parents love the potato salad...fresh fruit salad also looked very good. I really liked the bakery--outstanding selection of pies! Hours are very limited, so plan accordingly.
