What a fantastic experience at Royal Horseshoe Farm! The owner greeted us, was very friendly, and showed those of us with little experience how to maneuver our horses. Our trail guide was delightful, and the trails were beautiful, including streams, woods, and open fields! We had the opportunity to walk, trot, and canter our horses, and our experienced young teens had just as much fun as us inexperienced grown-ups! The farm was very nice, and the horses seemed well loved and cared for. We have gone on multiple other trail rides in different states and countries, and this one is definitely a favorite! read more

There were some issues that arose on my end and the owner, Rose ended up giving me her personal phone number to keep her up to date on changes! This place is great! We arrived a little late and weren't exactly sure where to go, but we still got our full 90 minute ride. AND we were the only ones who had registered, so we got a private tour (I was afraid they might cancel rides without enough people, but they do not!). Anna was friendly and knowledgeable. Our horses, Bud Light and Russo, may have been a little tired since we were the last ride of the day, but they were well-behaved. We had so much fun, and it was the perfect way to start out our long weekend vacation. Five stars for sure! read more

I hadn't been on a horse in 20yrs and my husband had never ridden one. Needless to say, with our excitement came a bit of nervousness. We arrived to the farm 30 minutes before our scheduled ride, stretched our legs after a long car ride and looked over the horses wondering which ones were ours. We walked down to the red barn and we're pleasantly greeted. After signing our waiver, we were fitted for helmets and taken to our horses. Our trail guide, Kerry, was awesome. She helped us learn the basics of horse handling in the corral before we headed out to the trails. Throughout our ride, she was attentive and gave us guidance on how we could improve our command of the horse. The trail was awesome. I was nervous sometimes on the steep bits but Kerry always gave us advance notice at tricky spots and told us which way to take the horses and how to lead them safely. We saw beautiful views. We did four water crossings. We saw a deer. We safely navigated around and over trees. We got to know our well behaved horses, Sadie and Razz. We got to experience something new together on a beautiful Seltember day. Thanks Kerry and Royal Horseshoe Farm! What a great way to start our vacation. read more

We booked a 1 hour trail ride and had an absolutely wonderful time! The staff are extremely friendly and helped 3 adults who had zero riding experience feel comfortable. The horses are gentle and the view is beautiful. We rode through a stream, woods, and meadow. It's definitely worth your time and money. I had a really nice trail ride yesterday. I am annoyed at myself because I forget our trail guides name, I think it was Claire. She was definitely the best part of the experience, not to knock Sadie, the horse I rode. The trail guide had a wealth of information about the horses here, and horses in general. It was really interesting and I feel like I learned so much. She also explained exactly why the balls of your feet should be in the stirrups(I might be using the wrong word) and that your posture should be relaxed, to hold the reign like cups of coffee, with a close grasp so the horse kind of knows your there(my interpretation of her words) to lean forward going up hill, your feet out a bit going downhill. She also knew the personalities of all the horses. You could tell she loves horses, but what really differentiated this trail ride from others, Is that she wasn't a casual instructor, she's educated in every aspect of equestrianism and was willing to educate us. I love that they are so serious about horses because I think the more they know horses the better they're treated, and even as a casual rider, it helps to understand the horses a bit more. read more

We loved our trip to Royal Horseshoe Farm. We had large party of 7 people and all of us were beginners and had never done this before. The trail guides were so friendly and showed us around the stables and paired us with their wonderful selection of horses. My horse, Rosy, was obviously my favorite but all of the other horses were also just so adorable and friendly! Once we were saddled up with instructions on how to steer the horses, we set off on a lovely trail ride which was scenic and peaceful. We passed through streams, climbed sloped hills and rode along some beautiful landscape. Riding on the horses was not only peaceful but also so interesting and educational. You get to know a lot about the personalities of these beautiful animals during the ride and we all just loved the experience. Since it had rained quite a bit the night before, the last half hour of our trail ride was inside which was really nice as we got a chance to do a small obstacle course as well as "trot" with our horses! I can safely say that we will be going to Royal Farms again. Once again, I would like to also give special credit to our trail guides who were extra patient with some of our group members who were a little apprehensive before the ride. Took a group of 8 adults and kids for a 1-hour trail ride. Really nice, clean stables and nice horses. I was very impressed that we got a lot of variety on just a 1-hour trail ride. Because of the kids, they don't recommend anything longer than 1-hour and very reasonable at $35/hr I was expecting a flat, boring trail, but we got lots of trotting through covered forest, up and down hills and then we got to put the horses away in the field. They don't talk a lot during the trail ride, but thats pretty nice so you can really enjoy the moment. I look forward to coming back without the kids! read more

What an amazing first-time equestrian experience!! A couple friends and I were vacationing in the Shenandoah Valley and were looking to go horseback riding for the first time. We wanted to have an authentic and fun experience, which is exactly what we got. Rita did an amazing job of teaching us about the farm, letting us get accommodated with our horses, and leading us during our 1 hour guided trail ride. She made sure to take her time with everything, making our experience a lot smoother than it would've been if we had been rushed in and out. The prices are amazing compared to other horseback riding farms in the area. It's a little difficult to find but well worth the trek! read more

We had a birthday party here for a group of 6 year olds. After a very abrupt greeting and then yelling (screaming) at my son three times about holding his reigns incorrectly, the natural beauty of the trail rides was actually nice. The area for swimming and eating though, is filthy. There is trash strewn everywhere upstairs and furniture crammed down below. The staff and family members will also also randomly come into the indoor facility and spend time upstairs during the party itself. read more

Disappointed.. I planned my daughter's birthday around this trail ride coming from over an hour away. We showed up early. They did tell us they were running a little behind. We waited patiently for an hour and 15 min being completely ignored. When we did ask what was going on they tell us our tour guide left to change and that he'd be back in another 15 min but that they wouldn't be able to take us on the trail because it was to dangerous. They had been doing rides all morning, my thing is why not get a hold of us at least a couple of hours before our ride at 2:30 to cancel and not waist our time. I explicitly requested a private tour so we could celebrate in a more intimate setting . The way the situation was handled was unprofessional and completely rude. I've been riding in NJ a few times and definitely enjoyed this experience the most. They gave us the option to ride through the river which I have never done before. Trail ride was great, terrain varies and is through a beautiful wooded hillside, meadows and stream crossings. no boredom on this ride. I didn't know what to expect when I signed up for a two hour trail ride here and I was pleasantly surprised. The ride had beautiful fall views of the mountains and took us through twisty rising and descending trails through the woods, a meadow and a small stream. Our guide was knowledgable about each of the horse's tendencies (including mine to be lazy, but I enjoyed riding her just the same) and the horses were obviously well cared for. My friends who had rode along with us had taken a three hour horse ride before that was just up a flat road and back that was $100 per person. Our two hour ride had a lot more to experience and a better deal, only being $50 per person. We will all make sure to go back next year for another fun trail ride! read more

Charlie and the rest of the staff at Royal Horseshoe Farm were great! My boyfriend and I scheduled a last minute one-hour trail ride on a Saturday. They were able to accommodate us and made us feel very welcome. This was my first time on a horse, and I received great instruction about what to expect and how to handle Liberty (my horse). We went onto the trails with a group of 4 others who were at a similar skill level. The views were beautiful and we even saw some deer relaxing in a few yards away. At then end of the ride, we were all feeling like we got the hang of it and were able to trot back to the stables, which my boyfriend loved because he was slightly more advanced than the rest of us. I appreciated the personal touch and the welcoming experience we had at this family owned and operated business! Had an amazing afternoon on a trail ride with my family. What a great experience.

My wife, daughter, and I thoroughly enjoyed our hour and half ride across a shallow creek, up and down the hilly shaded forest path, and through a hilltop meadow. Our horses usually let us steer and control their speed, and when they didn't I think it's because they were way smarter than us and knew what to do. As wonderful as our horses were, the absolute best part of RHF were the people - great customer service setting up the appointment, very helpful and nice getting us ready, and our guide was so patient with us and our daughter on the trail. I got the sense this was not just a business - they really enjoy seeing people connect with their horses and nature. There are closer trail riding options, and there are less expensive options, but we will go back here next time. I certify I was not asked or given any incentive to submit this review. read more

I've taken my 10 year old niece here twice this year for trail rides and, for her birthday, I'm getting her riding lessons. This is a fantastic farm and a great place to bring beginner riders....especially kids. The staff is phenomenal......incredibly friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. I've been riding off and on for years but my niece was a first timer. They answered all of her questions and let her walk around getting to know the horses. We took a 2 hour guided trail ride (the longest they offer) and the scenary was amazing! We saw lots of deer along the way, and most of it was shaded and cool! Very friendly staff. we were 4 inexperienced riders & they were very patient and instructive. Even found a pony the right size for my 7 year old (he used a lead rope to ensure no problems, but that pony was extremely gentle). My daughters loved this outing!!! At the end, when we realized my camera had fallen out of my jacket pocket along the way, he quickly rode back along the trail to retrieve it. Extremely friendly and patient staff at this family-owned and family-friendly stable. My husband and I went with our 7 year old for a one-hour trail ride and we were SO IMPRESSED by this farm, the horses and the staff/owners. Rita our guide was fantastic with our daughter and definitely a pro. The trail was beautiful (especially in the Fall colors of November) and engaging with inclines and streams to cross. It was exactly what we were hoping for. The owners had to reschedule due to poor weather on our ride day and they did so with grace and total accommodation for our schedule. Went for a trail ride with the gf and had an incredible time. The guide, Tina, was awesome. She taught you a quick lesson, and wasn't overbearing. The trail had streams and went through the mountain. We passed through nice views and meadows. I lost my wallet halfway through the trail and Tina was nice and vigilant enough to go back and find it!
