Awesome experience. We were vacationing in the area. It was the first time riding for my two kids (8 and 11), the staff was VERY patient getting them up on their horses. It was an amazing 1 1/2 hour ride through trails in the woods. The guides were great and made the ride a memorable experience for everyone. The horses are well cared for and very gentle. There were about a dozen (max) riders with two trail guides ( one in the front and one in the back). Would highly recommend. Hope to be back soon. They do sell out the 2 or 3 rides that they have each day, so reserve as early in advance as possible. read more

[937] 6/21/2019 We were visiting Luray and decided to go horseback riding and due to positive reviews we used Jordan Hollow Stables. I suggest the private ride as it's not much more expensive and you get a more personalized experience. The ranch is located off a main road so it's easy I find. The owner Lisa is SOOOO friendly and helpful when booking, when we arrived and when we were done. She is a people person and makes you feel like you have known her forever. Easy parking. We went out for about 1 1/2 hours and it was just enough. Our guide was Eleanor. She is a friendly young lady. We went down numerous trails and you can tell she loved the horses and riding. She also was happy to answer all of my 10 year old sons questions. We saw deer on our tour but missed the bear and her cub. I lost my shades and Lisa immediately went back and found my shades. Made me happy as I thought they were lost forever. The horses are mostly rescue and beautiful. We totally enjoyed our trip and would definitely go back Be prepared to tip your guide 20%. This is the best horse riding place I know of. Even as a government employee, who's not loaded, I absolutely will go further to go here. Yep the gas prices are not fun, but Lisa and her entire staff here, are what make this place special. People of all backgrounds are cherished and loved here, and if you have a child for a first time ride, here's the place to go. Horse riding as a child bolstered my self esteem, and now as an adult, riding the beautiful trails here is a way to recalibrate stress and more. Jordan Hollow is very reasonably priced, and the horses here, are extraordinarily well taken care of. There are other places, that sadly this is not the case. The owner Lisa rescues horses, and guess who will be your horse to go walk or trot with? Yep and it's beautiful in every way. This charming place really is a dream come true. For years this establishment has been supportive of public safety people, Boy Scouts, and other community organizations. That is rare but it comes from Lisa and staffs hearts. They are so kind, cheerful, and humorous. If you or your child is a bit apprehensive about riding, they'll have you feel right at home. I miss Tonto, but my son loves Josie, and I just smile thinking of Harmony. She's a character, but a absolutely gentle and noble creature. The long trot walk is the best, and the guides know the terrain well. Also they are patient with new riders, and easy going as well. All of our family loves it here, along with our scout troop. 3.5/4 Stars Make sure to reserve your spot on a day where there will be no history of rain 24 hours before or on the actual day of your ride because they will cancel it even if there's lower than a 50% chance of rain forecasted as the conditions of the trail could get rough and muddy (which means they care about their horses and that's a good thing). We did the walk/trot package with a group. Our guide was great and everyone was very nice. I was a little disappointed as you don't really "trot" very fast or for very long during the ride. It's mostly about 10 second intervals every 10 minutes or so. I guess I was expecting more of a 50/50 balanced experience. If you're looking for more of a relaxing pleasant ride through luscious greenery then this is for you. If you want a more fun, energetic "cowboy" ride, maybe this one's not for you. read more

We just finished a Boy Scout horsemanship merit badge program at this stable. It was extraordinary. I was heavily involved with horses as a teen, and I am now counting my many years as a scout mom. First off, they have a spot for campers if you are bringing a group. It's quite nice and spacious. Primarily, the people who work with the horses are amazing. They did an extremely thorough lesson with the Scouts on the care of horses, the tack, the grooming, the whole shebang. And the kids got the experience of truly grooming and tacking horses. This is invaluable. They don't just stick you on a horse and say go. You get to experience a horse. Because they are wonderful creatures, and it should always be more than just sitting on the saddle and riding. All of the people who work here- Molly, Becca, Kelly (forgive me if I've gotten a name wrong, because you were all amazing!) have worked here for years. And Lisa, the owner of the stable, is a truly accommodating and wonderful woman. These horses are her babies. And that means a lot to me. Because I want to go ride horses that are loved and cared for. Not tired horses who are mistreated. Thanks to Lisa and the gang. You are doing it right!!! I will be back with my kids. The owner and employees at this stable are amazing. My 9 year old daughter was nervous to get on the horse (to the point she started crying) one of the employees came over and started comforting her, introduced her to the "calmest", "best" horse they had that she would be riding. They calmed her fears and she ended up having the best time. Meanwhile my 3 year old who isn't old enough to ride the trails stayed back at the stable with her dad and while we were out riding the owner took her around and introduced her to all of the animals and even let her get on a horse for a few minutes. I have been taking riding lessons and doing trails for 12 years and this was the nicest stable I've ever been to for a trail! SO CLEAN. Horses were clean and looked VERY healthy, feet looked good, tack was well kept. Even the Porta-potty was very clean! Trail guide was very nice, trail was lovely. I did the 1 1/2 hour walk ride which was great but there was no lookout point to take a nice picture with a view. We got our picture taken at the end when we got back to the stable. Everyone at Jordan Hollow was pleasant and made us feel very welcome! You don't need experience to go riding here. They are very experienced in making the rides safe for both the horses and riders from the order they place the horses in (so they get along :-) to pairing the horses and riders. Make sure to wear long pants, ideally jeans - because while the trails are generally clear, there are thorns on the sides and the horses sometimes get into them. Our ride took about 1.5 hours through the woods. We did use bug spray prior but we probably didn't need to. The horses are beautiful and well cared for. She took us through a woodland trail, cool from the sun. She also kept us entertained with stories, teaching us about the horses. We also got to take the horses into a faster trot several times which was exciting. I reserved a trail ride here after reading excellent reviews, and when I spoke with Lisa to schedule our adventure, she was so friendly I knew it would be a good time. Despite it being about an hour from where we were vacationing, I thought it was well-worth the drive! When we arrived we were quickly signed in, and our horses were ready soon after. We hit the trail just after the scheduled time of 10am, led by our friendly and experienced guide, Megan. The horses were beautiful and well cared for--I had no idea that my mare, Rose, was 20 years old or that my boyfriend's gelding, Zip, was 17. I chose the two-hour private walk/trot trail ride, and it was just about the perfect length; Walking across the fields before reaching the woods takes half an hour each way, so this allowed us to have an hour of real trail time. It wasn't so long that our butts hurt too badly the next day either! Unless you are very nervous around horses, I suggest going with the walk/trot option instead of just walking! It's exhilarating to trot for a short distance on the flat stretches of the trail. I snapped some photos of my boyfriend during the walking parts of the ride, and on the way back Megan was kind enough to stop at a scenic point and take photos of both of us. Our experience - beginning to end - was awesome. The owners truly love what they do and it shows. They are hospitable and respectful. Lots to say here, but I will start by saying that some of their horses are rescued and some are rehabilitated. This shows how much they love horses and how caring they are. They put extra effort to pair the right person to the right horse so that everyone has a great riding experience. The riding trails are great and very scenic.
