Food is fresh and flavorful. Service is great and fast. There are lots of families and kids playing around. I got stuffed with 4 plates of food for $18.99. What more to expect!

Asian buffet and grill, a little bit better quality than usual for such places. Has a sushi bar and grill to go along with the buffet. Staff was friendly and attentive.

    Restaurant Store Front

ADA Violations: Service Dog I have previously read yelp reviews about service dog handlers having issues at Royal Grill & Buffet, leading me to stay away from this restaurant entirely. Today how ever it was requested by my employment that we come here to eat so I gave it a shot. Upon entry I had no issues and staff seemed very friendly and even complimented how good my dog was. We were taken to our table and we ordered our drinks. Once we got up to go get our food I was stopped and asked to leave my dog at the table. I explained that I am legally not able to leave my dog unattended at the table and legally she was required to be allowed everywhere in the restaurant that anyone else would be. She tried to argue and refused to let me get my food. She did offer to bring it to me or have the person with me get my food. While I appreciate the attempt to accommodate I did not accept due to the principle of them infringing on my legal rights. I informed her that I would continue this conversation with her shortly and returned to our table to pull up ADA law. A different woman approached and I explained that I would not be eating or supporting their business so long as I could not be treated as any other patron. I informed her that even as a buffet style restaurant the only places that can refuse or restrict access of my service dog is a medical facility where a sterile environment is required. That restaurant policies do not trump the laws. She acknowledged me and walked away. I do not eat nor pay. At check out I spoke to the original woman who start the access violation and she tried to continue to tell me I was not allowed to take my service dog in the buffet area. She stated that the health department had told her this. I reiterated that she had been misinformed and stated the law again. Other than that interaction, the restaurant was clean and the food "looked" good. The person with me said it was delicious. I will be following up this review with a report to the ADA of the access violation. Manager said her name was Cindy but I was not able to confirm if that was true as she became very hostile during check out.

On the left a plate I designated as contaminated, the right the sushi

I have been here many times before, today though after not coming here for quite a while (A year at least). I went through getting my usual, having had done competitive eating in the past I can put away about ten plates uncomfortably, five plates comfortably.... not today though. The sushi was so bad that for the first time in my life I have ended up leaving it on my plate. The rice tastes cheap and lacks that sweet slightly vinegary flavor, the fish has a weird texture like the proteins started breaking down and the flavor was not done right either. Not sure if they ran out of the right ingredients or something is spoiled. Not sure what happened, but the quality went way downhill and getting my usual resulted in almost two plates of food that I found to be so unpalletable that I wouldn't even consider taking it home for free. The sad thing is, these plates were of food that I was able to genuinely enjoy last time I was here, they are NOT the same thing and yet a lady working here tried to gaslight me into thinking otherwise. The chicken tasted like it contained play dough flavoring, really weird and my instincts told me to stop eating it, like something bad was in it or perhaps maybe spoiled? The string beans, chicken tenders, s and shrimp were all good and the black pepper chicken did not have the same problem as the roast chicken did. The roast chicken was so bad I decided the entire plate it was on might be wise to consider contaminated. The deserts are fine, the foods that taste contaminated are generally foods people will tend to want to gorge themselves on or foods where the base ingredients cost a little more than what is normal. Anyhow, on top of not enjoying the majority of the food, I got berated by a lady working here for leaving food on the plates (The same lady who did the gaslighting). I never once thought I would ever have sushi that could make me regret eating it. Honestly, I suspect that I will soon get food poisoning.....

This has been a favorite of my families' eating places in Lafayette for years. Rated #2. The staff has been in place for years so the consistency is tremendous‼

I was excited for the green onion pancakes but they were extremely greasy and chewy with little taste. The spring rolls and egg rolls were ok, but nothing special. The crab Rangoon was terribly chewy. General Tso chicken was ok, again nothing special. Garlic pork was actually pretty good but on the whole I don't eat pork so I limited myself to a bite. I also don't eat lamb but did try the Mongolian lamb and I thought it was soft and not super flavorful but other people at my table raved about it. We also had fried rice with veggies and fried rice with tofu. Neither were terribly flavorful. All this to say, I think I was the only one who did not enjoy the dinner.

In general the entire experience was mid. The menu is extensive. The food was OK, but nothing that we ordered tasted fabulous. It all seemed to be regular Chinese food, nothing was terrible or disappointing. So if that is what you are looking for, then Taste will be fine. My friend said they had large rooms in the back so if you have a large group, that would be a plus.

I rate my Chinese food against an old favorite, CHINA LANE, which closed after Covid, and against…read moresome fine Chinese American restaurants in Chicago, so that bar is pretty high. Thus far no Chinese restaurant in Lafayette has remotely met those standards. The atmosphere was quaint. Nice cozy amount of indoor seating. Nice and clean tables. You have to go to the counter to order. They have no fountain beverages only canned, and no water unless you want to buy bottled. We all chose the water from a cooler freezer, which was not very cold. 3 orders for 3 people which we all planned to mix and match. Orders were pork egg foo young, pork chop suey, and sweet and sour chicken. We then went and sat down at our booth. Our food was done very quickly. All were brought to the booth in brown paper bags. Hmmm do they not want you to eat in? So we opened the bags and pulled out our food trying to share from the plastic trays. The silverware was the very cheapest plasticware that they could have bought. My fork broke leaving tines in my egg foo young. The egg foo young was good but very average they forgot the gravy. I think they overheard us saying we never had it without because she brought some to the table, the gravy was good but nowhere near my Chicago or China Lanes. The sweet and sour chicken was excellent. Very crispy yet soft white meat and the sweet and sour was good. I would highly recommend it. The chop suey was one of the most disappointing dishes, I have eaten at many and this dish was tasty but to call it chop suey was a mistake. They had large chopped hard carrots, nothing like what is in normal chop suey, they did not use bean sprouts in anything that we had. This was in no way a chop suey. That being said except for the large uncooked carrots it was very tasty. Maybe rename. I spoke to someone who eats there periodically and they said they use the same combination for a variety of dishes and just change the meat and name. We also had crab raggoons, these were some of the best I have ever had soft, crispy with a soft yummy center. The rice was excellent, the egg roll was ok, I have bought frozen ones from Sam's that are better. Sad if not for having no table service and the cheapest plasticware I would give the food a 4. I know there is a second Resturant with the same name and their food is the same. Not sure if this one was to be a better one for eating in or not. More. Hands on if so. I hope they step it up some and work on their inside sales more. Would recommend just not to sit eat and expect any customer service. Nice people but they need to work on their inside customer service. One of the better Chinese American foods, they just need to step it up a notch to be a great success. Will eat here again and update this restaurant, they have potential.
