Tricky tricky... They change the buffet over at 3pm and if you arrived earlier then you are supposed to have ALL the lunch items memorized and take only the lunch items. They also put "Dinner Only". On multiple items that are always lunch items...so be aware! They then remove the dinner signs. If you mess up and get an item that you can't know is dinner then they force you to pay Dinner price if you only got 1 "dinner" item. Never refilled drinks. read more

Second, the lunch hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., which makes it even more confusing that dinner starts exactly at 3 p.m. I arrived at 3:05 p.m. and asked whether my order would be considered lunch or dinner. The server clearly told me it would be lunch. However, when I finished and paid, the receipt showed the dinner price. I brought this up to the server, but he insisted that he had said "dinner," not "lunch." Readers can judge the situation for themselves, but it is not easy to confuse "lunch" with "dinner." Seriously think this place is a scam. We came for lunch and when we checked out at 310pm they charged us for dinner and insisted rudely that we ate the dinner food. It was really crazy. There's no signs saying what food is lunch and what is dinner. We are supposed to know which is which. We intentionally did not eat the crab legs because we knew they were putting them out for dinner. They also charge $6 for 2 drinks without telling you this isnt included. My husband and I are not big eaters so we felt this was really unfair. What should have been $28 was $47. Buyer beware. Had we known we were being charged $20 more we would've gone somewhere else. read more

ADA Violations: Service Dog I have previously read yelp reviews about service dog handlers having issues at Royal Grill & Buffet, leading me to stay away from this restaurant entirely. Today how ever it was requested by my employment that we come here to eat so I gave it a shot. Upon entry I had no issues and staff seemed very friendly and even complimented how good my dog was. We were taken to our table and we ordered our drinks. Once we got up to go get our food I was stopped and asked to leave my dog at the table. I explained that I am legally not able to leave my dog unattended at the table and legally she was required to be allowed everywhere in the restaurant that anyone else would be. She tried to argue and refused to let me get my food. She did offer to bring it to me or have the person with me get my food. While I appreciate the attempt to accommodate I did not accept due to the principle of them infringing on my legal rights. I informed her that I would continue this conversation with her shortly and returned to our table to pull up ADA law. A different woman approached and I explained that I would not be eating or supporting their business so long as I could not be treated as any other patron. I informed her that even as a buffet style restaurant the only places that can refuse or restrict access of my service dog is a medical facility where a sterile environment is required. That restaurant policies do not trump the laws. She acknowledged me and walked away. I do not eat nor pay. At check out I spoke to the original woman who start the access violation and she tried to continue to tell me I was not allowed to take my service dog in the buffet area. She stated that the health department had told her this. I reiterated that she had been misinformed and stated the law again. Other than that interaction, the restaurant was clean and the food "looked" good. The person with me said it was delicious. I will be following up this review with a report to the ADA of the access violation. Manager said her name was Cindy but I was not able to confirm if that was true as she became very hostile during check out. read more

Been a few years and found myself back at the Royal. The food quality is still outstanding. I still would not dare try sushi at a buffet. The dumplings were excellent. I ate a lot of broccoli from the beef/broccoli. Great sauce. All the various breaded chicken (rose, general, salt&pepper) were delicious in their own ways. Egg rolls still very good. Not the prettiest place, but if you care only about good quality American-Chinese food, this is a great spot. read more

I have been here many times before, today though after not coming here for quite a while (A year at least). I went through getting my usual, having had done competitive eating in the past I can put away about ten plates uncomfortably, five plates comfortably.... not today though. The sushi was so bad that for the first time in my life I have ended up leaving it on my plate. The rice tastes cheap and lacks that sweet slightly vinegary flavor, the fish has a weird texture like the proteins started breaking down and the flavor was not done right either. Not sure if they ran out of the right ingredients or something is spoiled. Not sure what happened, but the quality went way downhill and getting my usual resulted in almost two plates of food that I found to be so unpalletable that I wouldn't even consider taking it home for free. The sad thing is, these plates were of food that I was able to genuinely enjoy last time I was here, they are NOT the same thing and yet a lady working here tried to gaslight me into thinking otherwise. The chicken tasted like it contained play dough flavoring, really weird and my instincts told me to stop eating it, like something bad was in it or perhaps maybe spoiled? The string beans, chicken tenders, s and shrimp were all good and the black pepper chicken did not have the same problem as the roast chicken did. The roast chicken was so bad I decided the entire plate it was on might be wise to consider contaminated. The deserts are fine, the foods that taste contaminated are generally foods people will tend to want to gorge themselves on or foods where the base ingredients cost a little more than what is normal. Anyhow, on top of not enjoying the majority of the food, I got berated by a lady working here for leaving food on the plates (The same lady who did the gaslighting). I never once thought I would ever have sushi that could make me regret eating it. Honestly, I suspect that I will soon get food poisoning..... read more

We really like this place to come and have a meal with family when you don't feel like cooking and have a gang to feed. They have both booths and tables. There are many choices and we all have favorites among them. The egg drop and hot and sour soups are good. Fresh made sushi is available, as well as a grill where they will cook up the items you choose. It is a little bit pricey, but not too crazy. Handicap accessablity is a plus for our group. read more

This is a good place to eat if you both hate food and hate yourself. Half of the buffet is empty. Although, given the bad quality of food that is available, maybe it is better this way. Fish that is allegedly baked is raw. Seafood that has clearly been sitting out for hours. My child described the pudding as "stale". The furniture was run down beyond repair. Bathrooms made the furniture seem nice Service was fine. The food is irredeemably disgusting. I've never felt the emotion of feeling ashamed for bringing my family to a restaurant before. read more

This place took over the location of a previous buffet, Teppanyaki (last I saw about a month ago, they still had "Teppanyaki" emblazoned on the bar). The former place was absolutely abysmal, what with dirty dishes, cold/stale food, dirty premises, and so forth. I am somewhat pleased to say, though, that the Royal Grill and Buffet is a step up from the old establishment -- out with the abysmal, in with the mediocre. The plates and glasses were clean, the buffet had mostly warm and decent-tasting food, but a relatively small selection. Nothing to really wow you, but at least the food is edible and won't give you food poisoning, unlike the old buffet. Maybe give it a chance if you have a big appetite and are a fan of buffets. read more

We came here about 2 years ago and were not impressed. We gave it another try today and were pleasantly surprised. They have redone the whole buffet with fresh food. Sushi is good. Good mix of both Chinese and American. And, my personal measuring stick is the crab Rangoon which are a thumbs up here. A little pricey for Lafayette at $12.99 for lunch, but it was worth an early Saturday fill up. read more

They told us we cannot bring her in (she is a task trained service animal) and after we left, I called to speak with a manager and while talking to her about this experience she started talking about how the Health Department said that animals aren't allowed inside and when I started to tell her about the ADA and how service animals work she proceeded to hang up on me. When I called back a few minutes later and spoke to the same manager, i started to tell her what a service animal can be removed for and when. She then continued with the Health Department conversation and stated that since they have customers in there and have had problems in the past with customers making complaints about animals being in there, they decided they would not allow them anymore, and then she hung up on me AGAIN. read more

Was hungry for Chinese and saw 3 1/2 stars so gave it a try. Unfortunately I was really disappointed. Very limited selection and lacked flavor. Sushi was fishy and not fresh. The desserts were a joke. Dry, no flavor and fake looking. No almond cookies! Ice cream was in prepackaged cups with artificial flavors. For $16.50 each, we felt cheated. My favoriate resturant. My wife is not a big fan, but i really enjoy it. The food is good. The waitress's are amazing, they have different types of foods, and theyre not that pricey.
