The rice was a little chewy but that lamb. Could've used more white sauce but again that lamb. Their red sauce is hot and thick like it should be. I hate red sauce that's just hot sauce. The location is the location so don't expect it to be fancy inside. The service is great and the guy at the window is friendly.

Unfortunately the above sentence is a lie, and in fact this is just a lower-to-mid-price convenience store on a corner in one of the most run-down, underfunded neighbourhoods in the entire Western world. I think I was the only white person not just on this day at this time, but ever, from some of the looks I got, to enter this little mini mart. I got a soda (semi-decent selection, low-to-mid prices), because it was freaking hot. I was exploring the entire neighbourhood where the recent riots were. Police helicopters circled overhead. Lots of suspicious looks and nervous comments. Very sad. But this is a nice little beacon of normalcy and friendliness in the middle of the hood. If the products were slightly more affordable for the mostly-unemployed locals around here, I'd even give it a 5. You'd think Kanye would be able to give the groceries away, but alas.

The second positive is that they sell all kinds of stuff including a few cold non-alcoholic drinks which really hit the spot on a Mid-Atlantic summer day. The third positive is that I couldn't believe some of the knock-down prices they have on other stuff that is way, way more expensive out in the rich suburbs. If you happen to be in East Baltimore it's worth coming by to give them a try. The negative, I guess, is that you often have to slip past beggars and panhandlers to get into the store, which isn't really a negative for the store itself, but for Baltimore. It's just sad and we collectively have enough money to take care of the problem. Have you been out to Towson and seen some of the luxury on display in Bel Air, just down the road? I was going to say that Bayview is in a bad part of town but then I realized I only need to say "it's in Baltimore." I'm just kidding. I love Baltimore, and there are lots of lovely parts of Baltimore, but what is clear from knowing this city quite well, is that it needs a lot more love, a lot more understanding, a lot gentler policing, and a hell of a lot of money poured into it. The other good thing about this place is they have the small bags of the best chips in the world, Kettle Chips - salt and pepper of course (Don't argue, they just are the best). The sandwiches are fairly sizable and in my opinion definitely big enough for a hungry person at lunchtime. The cost of this sandwich, a measly $5.50. In and out in around 5 minutes with a fresh made sandwich = top notch.
