Poor Furr's Buffet on San Mateo closed down, who knows if it was the pandemic ... now this place is a Chinese restaurant buffet. I am impressed the food was delicious and out did other local buffets. The place was clean and also greeted right away and waiter refilled water. The price is acceptable and I will visit when I crave Chinese. Lastly the salmon sushi was very delicious.

A good assortment from the buffet 1-18-25

It's a buffet with a fair variety of many types of foods. Some really tasty items: the fried chicken wings, BBQ Ribs (usually very tender) cheese Mussels, egg rolls, fried fish, poached white fish, Tofu sushi pockets, even the enchiladas are reasonable. Also some good ice cream (I like to add some peach juice to my strawberry ice cream It's a buffet under $16 - even on a Sunday night. I couldn't figure out where I wanted to go for dinner - I was able to have many different cuisines. Some are better than places that specialize in certain styles. A good meal at a reasonable price - and NO DISHES!! 2-23-25 (photos taken over several visits)

This Asian style buffet was barely ok. The cost for food was reasonable. The quality of the food was pretty questionable. I am unable to eat chicken. I was not able to eat potstickers without taking one, breaking it open, and checking the inside. (Which seemed to be pork). There were very few labels on the food. The food temp was probably borderline. There were "crab Rangoons" that had been dunked in the fryer, but had not been crisped up. Someone posted much of this is pre-prepped Frozen and canned food. I agree. Hubby and I question if the employees are the same as Buffet King.

Given 5 Stars because: - Service was wonderful filling drinks (5 times) & removing dirty plates - 4, 45 foot rows of food or 8 lanes to serve from - Clean glass doors, restroom urinals & toilets as I wash my hands each time I dish out - Healthy selection of seafood, beef dishes and chicken dishes. Not sire if pork is offered as dishes do not have name tags. - At $15.99 for adults, a senior citizen discount and $2.49 drinks, you can say it is affordable. - I spiced up my dishes with their chili oil, and imported Sriracha sauce. - large groups of ten or more will have the option of the private dining room or tables that seat 13. - Vegan options. - Desserts galore. - Ice cream station offering 4 flavors; cherry, vanilla, chocolate & mint chocolate chip. - tappen grill. Do not know if attendant understood English, just Mandarin. - The buffet was beautifully arranged, should have snapped my photos then but....hungry The three of us came out full at $52.

This was actually a very pleasant surprise. We originally drove all the way to Hong Kong on the west side but my daughter had some anxiety because of how packed it was. We found this place on Yelp and said it was good for people who liked Hong Kong and to our pleasant surprise it was VERY similar. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same ownership. They had a lot of similar menu items and setup. We went when they offered a father's day special buffet so it was more expensive than usual but still a great value. I don't know if some of the items we had available would be there on a typical day. We had a great meal and the staff was very friendly and attentive to our drinks refills and removing of our dirty plates. Would definitely come back.

I am shocked that this is the first review! We drove by and thought Furr's was open again, but noticed the sign Royal Buffet Grill. We decided to stop and eat since we were on the go and a buffet is a great place for everyone to ve satisfied wnd find exactly what they want. We were all surprised to see this was an asian buffet! My daughter and I had been in the mood for sushi, so it worked perfect. They had at least 6 different rolls to choose from, a grill for fresh cooked food, and lots of traditional dishes. The waiter was so fast with beverages and taking our plates. He was nice and accommodating when we asked if he could point us in the right direction of some sauces for our rolls. The music was really pleasant. The only real downside was that the decor was all left over from Furr's, including pictures of dishes that were not being served. There were also signs above dishes that were not being served. BBQ Pork, Italian Pasta, etc. I am not sure if they were misplaced or signs from the last Furr's dishes. Worth a stop if you're hungry, enjoy a variety of asian food, and want to try a new buffet!!

04/13/26 First of…read moreall, don't let the other reviews of a "sketchy" area deter you from visiting Vick's Vittles. The area looks old and poor, but near the restaurant, we didn't see anything sketchy. When we were leaving, we did see some homeless people at the main intersection, but we didn't see anything we'd describe as sketchy. We did notice there is a mobile home park behind the restaurant, but there is a wall between the mobile home park and the restaurant parking lot. Even if there were police surrounding the mobile home park, we'd still venture inside to eat. The food is that good. We shared the cowboy breakfast burrito and the Santa Fe pancakes. Both were filling and ridiculously good. The Santa Fe pancakes made with blue corn, roasted piñons, green chili, and cheddar jack cheese were different than anything else we've ever had. I'll admit I didn't love my first bite or two, but the more I ate, the more I wanted. The pancakes are dry, but if you drizzle some syrup, it's the perfect match. The accompanying eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. The cowboy breakfast burrito is massive, filling, and worth every calorie. Even though we were stuffed, we had to get the peach with green chile turnover. We asked if the turnover is served warm and our waitress replied that she could warm it up for is. I'm not sure that it is normally served warm, but I highly recommend it. The turnover flaky, the glaze was silky once warmed up and the peach with green chile was unique and delicious. Five star service and food. I highly recommend Vick's Vittles and hope that I'm in the area again so I can try more of this delicious food.

Placed our order, had to correct the waitress several time on our order. Waited quite awhile, long enough to need more coffee. None was coming so had to call out to another waitress to get more. Our waitress did come back to bring the coffee. Before she got there we were discussing the fact that the entire staff was new. She must have overheard us and took it as some kind of slight to her. Two minutes later the manager came over to inform us that we were being rude to her server and that she would be taking over our service. After some discussion my wife said, "this is ridiculous, guess we won't be coming here again" the manager said "well I'll cancel your order and you can leave now". We said we didnt want her to cancel our order and she just said have a nice day. So we left. Sooo not the Vicks Vittles of the past.

Yesterday we popped in on a whim and found it was one of the evenings that Curry Leaf does a buffet. One of the things that's really wonderful about this restaurant is - not only is the food wonderfully flavorful and of top quality; these folks can COOK - you find many dishes here you don't run across in most of the "cater to the lowest common denominator" Indian restaurants. At Curry Leaf, you'll find both northern and southern dishes. And if you go when there's a buffet, you'll find the dishes actually _change_ - and there are a variety of them, and they're cerebral. (Ever see aamrakhand on a buffet before? I never have - and this mango/saffron pudding is haunting my taste buds' memory this morning.) Yes, you'll find the classics well represented, but I've never seen goat chettinad on a buffet anywhere else in the US. I'm past the age of eat-until-I-can't-move, but the buffet at Curry Leaf was so good that it's the next morning and I already have a hankering to return. Oh! And I forgot to add that the tiny fried green chile for the sandwiches was the tastiest green chile this New Mexican has had so far this year! Ah, and the dosas are just wonderful - quite a variety - and included with the buffet (so are the naan). Curry Leaf also has a good variety of beers and some wines. Service is polite and friendly and omnipresent without being intrusive in a comfortable room where a group, a couple or a few friends can always find seating. If you've not tried Curry Leaf, you're missing out.

The quality of the food is great and everything is always aesthetically pleasing as well. I had their avocado bomb on my last visit and I was delightfully surprised with it. I like avocado in most cases, but sometimes, it can be a lot at one. I thought this was going to be like that when I saw it, but I was wrong. I look forward to getting one of these on my next visit! On my last visit my friend and I saved room for a dessert, one that we saw rotating on their screens that they have in the restaurant showcasing some of the menu items. It was a take on a bananas foster. It looked delicious but alas, we'll see if we can manage to get it next time. Note to self, have dessert first on next visit?
