I purchased a Local Flavor certificate for this establishment. They would not honor it during the holidays and they would not honor it after the holidays either. I paid $12.50 for $25.00 worth of bakery items. Now the $25.00 is expired but the $12.50 is still valid but they will not honor it. I have never had a problem with Local Flavor before. Royal Bakery should not have contracted with them if they can't honor the deal. Very disappointing. read more

I am giving you the worst rating ever! Got the sunshine cake for Christmas, and it was dry and stale. So again, I figured we will try again. So for New Year's we got a blueberry pie. Let me tell you it sucked, in plain English. The crust was old, the blueberries were sour, and it was terrible. Never-ever will we buy from Royal Bake again. I will spread the word too. "SUCKS". About a month ago I bought 18 cupcakes and although they were beautiful, they were very stale. These cost a pretty penny so I called to complain. They sent me a gift certificate. I went back and bought brownies and a muffin and a few other things and I'm sorry to say, everything was also very stale. I'm very disappointed as this bakery is very close to me and convenient. Everything is beautifully made but beware, maybe stale. So disappointed. I won't be calling to complain because I won't ever go again. So sad read more

Ordered cookies this year for Christmas and they must have changed the recipe. The pepper cookies were inedible. I threw them away! The ricotta cookies were more like a cake and not a cookie. Not the traditional Italian cookies they used to make in the past. Very pricey and not good! read more

I don't know what happened to this bakery but it's certainly gone downhill! For many years we bought many delicious cakes and pastries from them. Recently we bought pepper cookies, ricotta cookies and several pastries and they were awful! Everything was dry, tasteless and very poor quality. Don't know if they have a different baker but something is wrong their product was terrible. It all tasted as if everything was made from the same poor quality mix. We ended up throwing away $30. worth of pastries and cookies that were uneatable. Last visit to this place! If you want good baked goods visit Minooka Pastry Shop they're phenomenal! read more

We placed an order in early December to be picked up December 23rd, at 12 noon. Anticipating a long waiting line (as is the case at this place every time we order). I showed up at 11 a.m. and I was third in line. I was told at that time my order wasn't ready because the pickup time was 12 noon. At this time there was no mention that the cinnamon bread wouldn't be part of the order. It wasn't even noted on the order the woman brought out to show me the order pickup time was 12 noon. Surely they should have know by then, the bread wasn't available. Maybe not though since no one called to tell us it wouldn't be available during the holidays. (This makes me DOUBT the cinnamon bread not be made during the holidays season story!) I came back at 12 noon. The line was out the door and into the parking lot. I had to wait outside in the cold in a line of people who also had orders to pick up. I eventually got inside the building around 12:40pm. I finally got to the register at 12:55pm and I was told my order was incomplete. I asked why and the woman at the counter told me that she did not have the cinnamon bread. (We ordered three loaves in addition to 5 pounds of cookies). I asked why they didn't have the cinnamon bread and she said I don't know I'll go find out. She came back a minute or so later and said that the guy doesn't make it during the holidays. When I asked why no one told us this when we placed the order almost a month ago, she said I don't know, and told me I'd have to talk to the owner. I asked if he was on site and she said he was, he was in the back baking. I asked to speak with him, and was told he won't do that. I asked "why, doesn't he care about his customers opinion?" She said that he did, but he was too busy, and then mentioned she only worked there on Sundays. I can understand that he is busy, it is 2 days before Christmas. WE'RE ALL BUSY. It's also the reason we placed the order so far in advance! We also know the place is busy and wanted to be sure we ordered far enough in advance to be sure what we ordered would be ready when we wanted it. Since we have been buying and ordering from here for decades I find it hard to believe that no one called, or even told us when placing the order that the cinnamon bread wouldn't be made during the holiday season. So if you're going to order from Royal Bakery, make sure that the owner will fulfill the order when you call to place the order, otherwise, you may be serving something other that what you planned because the owner may not care enough to tell you he won't be making what you want to order. Lastly, if I was the owner, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss my customer's. Businesses cannot survive on reputation alone in the new economy! read more
