Stopped by Roy Rogers on a recent road trip. Visiting this place reminded me that my sister worked at Roy Rogers in our home town during high school. I ordered two chicken sammiches and my family ordered some food. My daughter decided to buy herself a latte from Starbuck's and skipped Roy Rogers. About 10 minutes later our food was ready. My wife handed my daughter my second chicken sammich. So I got back in line and waited another 10 minutes for a chicken sammich. The chicken sammiches were pathetic. They didn't have any seasoning or flavor and the chicken was tiny. An old Wendy's commercial came to mind while eating the lame sammich, "Where's the chicken?" Anyway, I'll skip Roy Rogers the next time I'm in this area.

This Roy Rogers restaurant is located in the food court of the North Somerset Travel Plaza on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. On my visit, they appeared to be adequately staffed but service was really slow. Employees seemed rather indifferent. I ordered a fried fish sandwich and fries. The sandwich didn't look or taste fresh and wasn't very good though I did appreciate the "Fixin's Bar" where I was able to add condiments. The fries were okay. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

After a long day of driving we we're famished when we arrived at the North Somerset Service Plaza. We hadn't eaten all day so we were extremely happy that Roy Rogers was open. Now, I don't expect much from food establishments in truck stops/service plazas. I think it's because I've had some sub par food over the years. Okay, back to Roy Rogers. The Hubby and I ordered a 3 piece fried chicken that came with a biscuit for $8.69. I ordered a small mac n cheese for $2.99 and he ordered a small baked beans for $2.99. The chicken was REALLY good. It was crunchy and moist. Although, the breast was slightly dry. The Mac was okay, it was a little on the watery side. The biscuit was the BEST part of the meal. It was hot, fresh and flaky. For two people we paid about $28 for two 3 piece fried chicken, 2 small sides and 2 extra biscuits. After we ordered we noticed that we could of paid $26 for a family meal that comes with 8 pieces of fried chicken, 2 large sides and 4 biscuits. It would of been great if the cashier brought this to our attention but she didn't. Oh well, now we know! If there's two of you the family meal is the way to go. We will definitely be back but I think I'll pass on the Mac next time and go for the baked beans.

Roy's brings back mixed childhood memories for me. On the one hand, I always looked forward to it when I was growing up... it was 4 blocks away in Arlington and we would frequently stop by in the summer for a shake and a cheeseburger. On the other hand, I remember when my heart sank when my favorite fast food restaurant locked the doors and boarded up the windows, along with all of the others nearby. Our closest one is now 35 minutes away. Needless to say, I will take every opportunity to stop by a Roy Rogers and grab a bite to eat. This particular location is my rest stop on my monthly trip home from Michigan... about two hours outside of DC, it is a convenient place to stop before the final leg of the trip. As with any rest area food joint, it looks beat up and worn out. If you go during the day, prepare to fight through traffic and long lines, especially during heavy travel days such as holidays. As I'm usually there at night, service is quick, although not very upbeat (fine by me... I'm not chipper at 1am either). The few things I've tried on the menu haven't been bad and they are exactly what I'm craving - a quick meal that will put keep me going for a few more hours on the road. Beware of tour busses! As this is the only restaurant at the plaza (unless you count Cinnabon), it gets all of the hungry tourists swarming it for a quick bite... wait times can be long.

Made a quick stop along the turnpike as we headed back to Pittsburgh and was looking for a quick bite, lucky for us Roy Rogers was there for us. I have heard of Roy Rogers of course from his T.V work and I do remember hearing something about the restaurants too, but I assumed they were long gone. Menu was very basic as fast food goes, much like my local fast food places there were burgers and chicken and even a fish sandwich. Service was good and quick and food was just o.k, nothing special here, exactly what you expect from fast food and the prices followed suit. The best thing was their special sauce, a kind of zesty BBQ, all and all it was O.K by me, Aloha

Roy oh roy....I have mixed feelings toward you. On the one hand, I had a SERIOUS craving for some fried chicken and biscuits, of the Kentucky Fried type, and given that the nearest KFC was nearly an hour away in all directions, I'm glad you were there to help satisfy. On the other hand...you don't taste too hot. Your chicken was not chicken, but rather a mass of fried dough. And the biscuit was unsatisfactory to say the least. I appreciate the effort Roy, but I'm not digging it.

How does this location not sell roast beef at all? That's the main thing people come here for. Come on, get it together.

Chicken tenders were full of grease and tough. Steak and cheese sandwich reaked of stale burnt grease. The meat itself had no flavor.

Clean, fast, and not too expensive. Better than what I expected from a stop on the Turnpike.

If you follow my reviews, you know I'm a fan of old-school diners, the classics, and honest home-cooked food. Summit hits all three marks, serving straightforward and delicious American standards since the 1960s. The three-egg omelet loaded with veggies and sausage was exactly the pre-ski power-up I needed. My son stuck with his go-to breakfast burrito, and my daughter went with the classic two eggs, bacon, and potatoes. Everything was spot on. They are perfectly polite, but they hold the line on proper behavior and will quickly put anyone in their place if they step out of line. It keeps the environment grounded and authentic. A few tips for your visit: * Seating: Expect to wait for a table in the lobby or outside during peak hours. * Payment: Bring your wallet--this is a cash-only establishment.

While traveling with my kid, we picked up a simple thing: a pepperoni pizza from stairs. When we walked in, the staff were arguing with each other about who wrote down what, who put the wrong toppings on which pizza, etc.It seemed that the oldest person in the group, I'm assuming an owner? Manager? Was being the hardest on the younger staff, which was difficult to watch. We left after picking up our pizza, And drove out towards our campsite. On the way, we had a couple of slices, rather, we each had one slice. The dough was "bready" and soft, pepperoni and cheese on top we're hardly cooked (the cheese was melted, but barely). The sauce was sugary sweet. Even though we were very hungry, we simply could not eat this pizza and ended up throwing it away. It was a very disappointing experience.

Seriously, my friend and I ordered two orders of fries, a hot dog, a hamburger and two diet cokes at 12:08 today. We were told "30-40 minutes." People who ordered after us got their pizza and sides before we got our food, which was the first red flag. The lady at the table next to us said, "They are losing tickets; you better go check on your food." I did; I was told everything was fine. I asked for our drinks. They were grudgingly given. At 12:50 (42 minutes after ordering), my friend went to check on our food. She was told "It's gonna be another 20-25 minutes!" At 1:13 we finally got our food when I went to the window and asked AGAIN. Two bags were basically tossed at me. "It just came up," the waitress said. I call BS on that! Everything was cold! My recent visit to Wendy's late at night left much to be desired. After ordering a simple chicken sandwich, I was instructed to pull up and wait for what was promised to be a brief 7 minutes. Little did I know, those 7 minutes would stretch into an excruciatingly long 37-minute wait. To their credit, the staff did attempt to compensate for the extended delay by offering me a complimentary large fries. However, no amount of fries could make up for the frustration of waiting nearly 40 minutes for a single sandwich. It's clear that Wendy's needs to improve their efficiency and preparation, ensuring that such lengthy delays are not a common occurrence. While the gesture of offering fries was appreciated, it's ultimately the timely service and quality of food that matter most. Hopefully, steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
