Today was my first experience paddle boarding and my first time coming here. It was my parents, two siblings, and I. My sister is very shy and small so I asked if if she could ride with me on the board and the lady at entrance said yes but once I got to the cashier he confirmed that we could not share paddle boards and every one must ride individually so my sister ended up on the nalu (I think that's what it's called). I was fine with this but it made me a bit frustrated that there was a bit of miscommunication between the workers and I saw people sharing a nalu on the water. I was not told I could do this or I would have done so, so my sister wouldn't have had to ride alone. Regardless it was fine because she ended up having a blast. Once we got to the dock I was expecting the person explaining the rules to give me tips on how to ride it as it was my first time and he knew. He just explained the rules and once I was in the water I met up with my family and they had all been given a little tutorial except for me. I know it was Labor Day weekend so it was pretty packed but I would have given 5 stars if the workers were a bit more consistent. About a month ago, I took my kids (15, 13, and 8) to The Rowing Dock. They each brought a friend. We had a great time! The staff was very customer friendly. This was the first time we had been paddle boarding. We loved how they are located outside of the Zilker/Barton Springs Pool area. Shortly after our visit, we were planning our son's 9th birthday party and he decided to have his party at The Rowing Dock. I really wasn't sure what to expect but I visited their website and discovered that they do support parties. I am thoroughly pleased by the entire event. They contacted me personally to set up the event. Followed up the day prior to make sure everything was still okay and see if I needed anything (usually I have to make the follow up call). We were assigned a person who set up the reserved picnic area with decorations and had a beach ball for the boys to play with while waiting. Several staff members got the kids in life jackets and on their paddle boards. We paddle boarded and then headed to the reserved picnic area to celebrate the birthday with food/cake/drinks (which we provided). My son and his friends had a great time! (Update) I did return to this location and again the good things about it were still good. I did my best to abide by the rules that aren't listed anywhere in regards to an animal or in this case dog. The staff seemed eager to talk about how accommodating they are to pets. It's nice to know the manager addressed the issue quickly. While my pup was on a leash a bunch of the staff came up to say hi and pet her. There were about 5 other dogs not tied down running around having a great time this time too. I loved it. Adding to the quality of this place, there was a line of about 20 people going up the hill just to go out for the day and they had me on a boat in a minute. They handled their line with haste and greeted each person with a smile and still offered conversation to get you excited to spend some time on the water. I did have a conversation with the manager and she was not the person who was originally rude to me. She was very professional and very quick to address my concerns. Knowing how accommodating they are I would have addressed them originally. (Old) Normally I would have given this place 5 stars. The prices are great, the location is easy to get to. The fun little snow cone place is great for dates and the picnic area is very relaxing. The boats and paddle boards are good quality, they even have some clear bottom boats so you can occasionally see the turtles and fish hanging out underneath. This last visit was not ok though. There was a woman who I swear you will recognize working there. She looks kinda like a stressed out chicken. She decided to get mad at me and my dog when I was getting out of a kayak because my dog ran up the dock. None of the staff dared to say anything about her tirade so I assume she was a manager. That wasn't the end of it. She went back behind the paddle boards and started talking negatively about the two other dogs there who did happen to be on a leash and commenting negatively about the plus size woman who owned a big dog. Everybody here staff wise is great they love on my puppy, they help you get in and out of your rental if you need it, they will coach you if you need it, they have waters and everything. But that manager if she isn't the owner has to go. You just can't talk about your customers that way let alone in an outside setting where everyone can hear you. read more

I truly appreciate the accomodations that they made for me to have a wonderful experience kayaking. Went in, filled out some forms, showed my ID, and being a beginner, they helped me made kayaking so easy. At such an affordable price and at such a great location where I could see downtown Austin and close to the nearby trails, I definitely got my money's worth. I went there twice. The first day was a breeze that in between I could relax and enjoy the atmosphere. It was harder to row away from the dock due to the wind blowing me back. The next day it was windier which made rowing back to the dock a challenge that I almost tipped myself over, lol. I rowed through a lake where there were trees below and paddles got caught in them, lol. For those who are interested, please be sure to bring your ID, check or cash. My first hand at SUP was through the Rowing Dock, and we had a really fun experience. Brought a 2 for 2 hours Groupon, no muss or fuss. Took us about 10 minutes to get the paperwork finished, stash our stuff, and onto boards. I have approximately zero grace or skill when it comes to balance, and even I managed to be perfectly comfortable on my SUP. It's a lot of fun, a great leisurely way to see the lake. Very casually paddling down to the South 1st bridge and back, we killed 2 hours perfectly. Kudos for secure storage and parking lot. We'll definitely be back! read more

We arrived and the lady attending the stand was amazingly friendly and knowledgeable. For one hour, at $15 we managed to ride around. When you're up for some summer fun on the water, Rowing Dock's your place to go. They rent out pretty much every imaginable boat, kayak, or board. They take credit cards, have a place to store your flip flops, and will store your valuables behind their desk, so nothing will get stolen. Overall, a well-thought-out business. So you don't have to worry about anything and just enjoy your time as Pocahontas. P.S. They also had a mobile truck serving ice cones with different flavors. [June 2020 Review]: A great place to rent anything from a kayak, stand up paddle board, or a double kayak for you love birds. Prices are very reasonable and based by the hour or the full day. They are taking Covid-19 precautions by requiring everyone to wear a face mask and stand at a distance from one another while waiting in line. When we arrived the line was long and the wait was about 40 mins. Staff was friendly by making sure every rider had their release agreement, I.D., and what they were wanting to rent out. Saw lots of dogs as well, so looks like they are pet friendly! (always recommend having your pet wear a life jacket!!) When we got to the counter, staff was friendly and moved us along quick. They have open cubbies for riders to place personal items and they also sell water bags/waterproof cell phone bags. The only downside of this experience was the lack of parking and wait time. If you are going back and forth on the commitment of buying yourself your own kayak/paddle board, I recommend stopping here to rent and see how you feel about it! read more

When I came to dock they told me to put one on so I told them I would just get my stuff and stand aside, another lady then told me to put one on or she can charge me for another one in a snarky tone. The only thing was that I forgot my ID at their office! So I simply called them and they offered to mail me my ID to my home in Berkeley. Rowing Dock is a great place to rent Kayaks and Paddle Boards. I personally love to paddle board since it's a little bit better work out, but I've rented the kayaks as well and they're great! The service is always wonderful and the prices are more than fair. The only negative I can think of is that they don't pro-rate, so if you decide to stay out for another 30 minutes, they charge for an extra hour. It personally doesn't bother me, since I stay out for 2 hours and that's it, but I just figured some people would want to know :). Other than that, definitely use Rowing Dock. :) read more

It was a beeeautiful Sunday afternoon which we took advantage of by going kayaking!! I was slightly as it was my first time but the kayak is more stable than I thought it was going to be and someone held it still against the dock for me to get in. Don't bring valuables and leave them out of sight in your car if you do. Do bring water and small snacks. There are cubbies to store shoes and non valuables. Service was extremely slow but polite. You can also rent/buy clear plastic sleeves for wallets/phones and buy water/gatorade. My friend and I opted for a 1 hour 2 person kayak which was more than enough time considering we were actively paddling the entire time ($20 weekend price). Of the two routes city vs. scenic trees and house we chose the latter. It was a peaceful hour, my arms got a workout, and we were able to catch up/soak in some sun. read more

Found this place on accident, was looking for a different boat rental place. Staff was very friendly and we got a 3-man kayak right away (4:00 on a Tuesday in June). Prices are competitive, boats and life-vests all seemed to be in good, safe condition. They also rent paddle boards, canoes and paddle boats. This is my second time renting a kayak on lady bird lake. This was a way better company to go with. The price is better and the staff was way more helpful and seemed like they actually enjoyed their job. The last company I won't mention a name just took our money and said pick a kayak no help getting in or out. They offer discounts throughout the week for bringing your dog on certain days and being a student on certain days. They also have a military discount which was very appreciated. This place was great! I rented a single Kayak for 2 hrs & it only cost me $20! Friendly staff & you seriously can't beat their prices!

Go-to spot whenever I kayak in Austin! I love how easy they make it to check-in and check-out. The prices are pretty reasonable too, and staff is always so friendly and helpful (esp. the ones that help you get in/out of the kayak). Trust me, it's requires some balancing skills! Offers single/double kayaks, SUP (stand up paddle boards), and canoes. The prices go up over the weekends. The board lists prices by the hour but they charge by the half-hour. Make sure you have a card and ID whenever you check in, and they offer to hold your keys too! They do have open cubbies you can place your stuff in at your own risk. Port-a-potties on the side of the entrance. The parking lot is basically gravel and kind of small, but I've seen cars parked on the side of the streets when it gets packed. I like going to the left of the river from the dock because it's more calm and less people as you go up. I haven't been to other renting places, and I don't think I would ever thanks to the awesome experiences I've had at Rowig Dock :) read more

Went on holiday weekend so there were tons of people but it was still very enjoyable. We spent 2.5 hours on the water. If you plan on staying out for awhile some snacks wouldn't hurt. They were very flexible and easy to communicate with. We were able to work out a group discount and accommodate for a group of 70 people on the water at peak time (12pm-ish) on ACL weekend! Getting on and off the water was easy and our experience was even better because we could hear the music from the concerts on the water.
