Entering the parking lot, we noticed that this was a popular spot in town. When we entered, we were greeted by warm smiles. The atmosphere was very welcoming, clean, and gave lounge vibes. We were welcomed to seat ourselves after placing our order. Let me tell you about the FASTEST service I have ever received in my life. 2 minutes after we took our seats, they brought out our brisket and pulled pork, including our side dishes. The food was hot, very good and fresh in quality, and tasted amazing. The barbecue sauce was made in house and was also amazing. Placed a large carryout order for Friday night and when we got there, the parking lot was packed and so isthe inside. I was a little worried because they were so busy and there were four people in line before me, but they got them through that line quick and as soon as I told him my order they had it ready. While out cruising in our Jeep today we decided to stop and eat here. Prior to stopping I called and asked if the patio was dog friendly and was told that typically it's fine as long as we sit at the picnic tables on the far end. This is perfectly fine as our doodle is calm and couldn't really care less about people or food. However upon arrival I was then told that now there was a party playing cornhole, not using the picnic tables, and we can no longer sit there. Glad we waited out time, I climbed in and out of our jeep 2 weeks post total knee replacement to be treated like crap. Definitely will not ever return with or without our doodle. What a joke. Call ahead to make sure we can have our dog and the staff said we could. Drive an hour to visit the place only to be told that someone's graduation party just came so we are not allowed to sit on the patio because they took it all over. Stopped here on the way on our travels. Saw this restaurant and decided to have lunch because we enjoy BBQ, smoked food etc. esp chicken and brisket. The menu is on a wall board with a variety of smoked food choices. However the only chicken they had was smoked chicken breast or pulled chicken, no bbq or smoked chicken meals or parts which was unusual I thought. However there were an assortment of other menu choices. I ordered the black and blue brisket salad. Portions adequate and just a bit pricey in my opinion. My salad was $9.75 .The brisket had a lot of burnt bark which was so hard I couldn't chew it, otherwise parts of the meat were tasty. My dining mate enjoyed his pulled chicken sandwich, with a small side of smoked beans for , $6.95 . Chicken was tender and smokey but nothing exceptional. Only a sweet bbq sauce was on all the tables, no other choices available. Drinks such as soda and cold tea available around $3.00 a drink. The ambience was rustic, but not overly bright . Always delicious, but I will say several times I have been here the wings are fantastic when warm/hot. But whomever is reheating them must be microwaving because several are actually cold in the middle. Not lukewarm but actually cold. We like the Hot BBQ sauce on them. Perfect amount of heat and sweet. The atmosphere is very laid back and down home BBQ. Service is simple. I haven't visited Rowdy's for awhile, even though it's the only barbque restaurant in Jackson. So this evening the better half and I dropped in for some pork ribs. I've never been a fan of the decor in the dining area, it's not bad, it's just rough and shabby. As the food goes, most of the entrees and sides are decent tasting, I don't find anything exceptional tasting here. For my most recent dining I ordered a full rack of ribs, baked potato and a side of cole slaw. The service here is very typical of BBQ restaurant. Parking is adequate and off the street. The potato was done just fine, no special tricks to it. The cole slaw tasted ok, but was coarsely chopped (strange). The ribs was perhaps cooked to long, a bit dried out, rendered would be an appropriate word (no fat, nor natural juices left). I would not recommend ordering the ribs here. read more

We used to really like going to this restaurant even though it was out of the way and occasionally would order catering for groups. However, the last three times were so disappointing we decided we'd never go back. The baked potatoes were terrible last time -- dry inside, burned skin, sloppily made. They charged us full price for all the toppings but did not put pulled pork on them. We went up to the counter to ask and just got a shrug. The catering orders were never completely correct -- often they would forget rolls, or we would request plates and silverware for the takeout orders and they would forget. The amount of food you get you can take home and have for another meal. This is my go to place when I want barbecue and I'm visiting family. Rowdy's Smokehouse is so good they are only open 3 days a week. Don't be fooled...providing high quality and delicious smoked meats and sides takes a lot of time and work. The first time we went to Rowdy's was an early evening on a Saturday...their last night of the week. Nearly every item on the menu was sold out. I was offered a smoked chicken smothered Angus beef burger. It was amazing. One of the last things left was incredible. On subsequent visits we went earlier in the week and sampled the usual smoked pork, brisket, etc. Everything we tried was outstanding and fairly priced. The facility is rustic and a perfect setting for good barbecue. The staff are kind and helpful, especially Maria, who helped us with our selections. We love going to Rowdy's and will be there again soon when we visit Jackson Ohio. read more

We were just passing through and were very impressed with this local find. We did takeaway, but the place was nearly full inside with protections in place. I had a pulled pork sammy, delightful on a buttered bun. Wife had a brisket salad, very ambitious with more meat than greens. Sides included nice cornbread mini muffins and sweet Cole slaw. The only reason for the four stars was that I had to eat in the car, and not enough cutlery for both of us. Also the Mac n cheese was a cold brick of tasteless yellow stuff. What an amazing dinner. The staff at rowdies is phenomenal, they go so far out of the way to make your experience amazing it is beyond words. My family had two pulled pork sandwiches, I had pork nachos that were wonderful. We also tried some sides, Mac & cheese, coleslaw, and a side salad that was huge. I can't imagine being anywhere close to here and not stopping in. Do yourself a favor make sure that rowdies becomes a place that you want to go to over and over and over. My wife wants to add watch out for the hot sauce it will sneak up on you. Her other final comment as we were walking out the door she will never ever question the exuberance and energy of youth, if the kids working here are our future, we're going to be okay! Golden wings also very sweet. Cole slaw was regional style and very good. Priced a little high for the area. The platter was lean and looked good on the sandwich it was nothing but fat. The coleslaw was warm, the cornbread was raw and the pulled chicken was so dry it was crunchy. I know we're in the middle of nowhere, Ohio, but Rowdy's serves up some BBQ that can hang with any big metropolitan area. It's only a few minutes off the highway in BFE Ohio and while a chain was tempting, Rowdy's was more than worth the short diversion. The pulled chicken and pork sandwiches were amazing as was the brisket chili. Even though we were driving, it was tough to resist $2 beers. For $20 we stuffed our faces and were tempted to order more but figured it was time to move on. The service was also outstanding. While the people at the register seemed new, they checked on us a few times to make sure everything was good and invited us to stay as long as we liked despite the fact that they seemed to be closing up shop a bit. Rowdy's is a new BBQ restaurant. We visited on day 2 of their opening. Currently they are only going to be open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as they get underway with operations. Rowdy's is locally owned and operated. The current menu is limited, but only d/t the fact that this seems to be a soft opening. More items, including beer, is slated for introduction as time goes by. Rowdy's concept is very similar to most BBQ places. A casual atmosphere with rustic/primitive decor. The staff had some great alternative rock playing, but the music is not distracting or invasive. There are booths, tables, and some pretty neat looking high-tops that have some booth type seating. Nathan's crew has been working hard and soliciting critical feedback. Food was delivered to our table quickly and the service was excellent. Nathan and his staff have training on how to create great customer experiences and you can tell that this is important to the staff. Our food was prepared and delivered very promptly. I had pulled pork. My kids shared a 1/4 of a chicken. My kids are very picky but they both enjoyed the chicken very much. All of the dishes I tried had a great smokey flavor that really stays with you. There are two sauces available. A regular BBQ and a slightly more spicy version. I tried the spicier version and I was very pleased with the taste as well as the fact that I haven't tasted anything like it. Nathan's crew makes their sauces and uses some interesting techniques that make them different than other BBQ sauces. Very tasty. Overall, I was pleased with how fast our service was, the prices of the items, and the quality of the food. This will be a great casual place to get a fast meal with very good quality and taste. This has the potential to be a terrific alternative to the local chain restaurants. This is also owned by local residents who care about the customer's experience. Pros: Fast, friendly service. Affordable prices. Atmosphere, tasty sauces and pulled pork. Plenty of seating and various options. Great location and parking. Customer service oriented. Locally owned and operated. Cons: Very few for day 2 launch. Limited menu is understood. More items to come. Lack of french fries or some sort of friend potato option. Upgrades still on-going and more menu items to come as growing pains are worked out. Bottom Line: Tasty, fast BBQ that won't break the bank like some chain BBQ joints. I was very surprised with day 2 abilities and the services. Lots of upside to Rowdy's becoming a regular spot for many Jackson County residents. This is worth your time to try and judge for yourself. Best ribs around, pulled pork and brisket that will just melt in your mouth, and baked potatoes that are huge and tasty. Get them with cheese, butter, sour cream, and BBQ piled on top!! Visited here for dinner on a Friday night. Although it was busy the line to order wasn't too long, and we had our food is less than 10 minutes. I thought the pulled pork sandwich was good, but it needed some of the sauce added for flavor. Both the Sweet BBQ and Carolina Gold sauces were yummy. The mac & cheese was very creamy and had a rich, savory flavor. Country style green beans and cornbread muffins were also tasty. Three of us ate dinner for under $40, which I thought was an excellent deal. They also had three craft beers on draft.. I had the Stiff Arm, an IPA by Land Grant. I ordered carryout ahead of time last night and still had to wait on my order, one of servers said they had just started making it... I had placed my order more than 20 minutes prior to that. It gets worse, the pork was bland and overly greasy; the grease soaked through the bun, the wrapper, and the bag. Delicious! I ordered the sampler and hubby ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs, mac n cheese, and a side of beans. The sampler came with chicken, pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. I am normally not a brisket person, but these melted in your mouth! My favorite was the pork. Sauces were very good too. Mac n cheese was a little "processed", but kids liked it. Lots of great reviews made us excited to try this place. Definitely didn't live up to our expectations. The food was pretty good as BBQ goes (I have had better and I have had worse). Fairly limited selection for sides ( I usually get either greens or sweet potatoes when I go out for BBQ...this place doesn't have either of those). I ended up with a salad with pulled pork and asked for my dressing on the side. When I got to my seat and started to put the dressing on I thought it was super thick and then discovered it was sour cream instead of salad dressing. Luckily I tasted it before dumping it all on my salad so I was able to get it switched for dressing but if I I had done take out that would have been a bigger problem. My biggest gripe with this place was NO ICE TEA!! I have never heard of a BBQ place that didn't offer ice tea (sweet or unsweet). It was listed on the menu but they said they didn't have any (Friday around 1pm) water or soft drinks (or alcohol ) were the only options. I drank water and then stopped at McDonalds on my way out for an ice tea. Disappointing experience. read more
