Erging since 10/21 and ~1.5 million meters into my RH journey. I do not like exercising and if left to my own devices, it will get blown off without a second thought. I can keep an appointment though and that's where my intro to group fitness started. The RH staff are really wonderful for a number of different reasons that all share the common characteristic of wanting the crew to meet their goals, make progress, and have fun. I'm doing all those things as I approach 250 classes. Your fellow rowers will be all ages, sizes, and abilities and when you see a full class all in swing (all hitting catch & finish in unison), it feels good and is motivating in an unexpected way. My favorite things are: hitting my meter goal for class, celebrating a milestone for someone in the class (I'm primal scream loud), and making new friends with the dogs that sometimes show up. Come in and get addicted to munching meters!!

Great fitness experience with an excellent staff and equipment. Highly recommended. Forty-five minutes of total workout time, with a high yield on return.

Coach Susan and me, celebrating my first 50k!

Wonderful staff, and a very fun and challenging experience... But only challenging at the level to which you want to take it. Ideal!

When I arrived I was told to set up for class with the same equipment the instructor set out and found a cozy spot near the door. The class wasn't full (which is apparently rare) so I had plenty of room to embarrass myself. Now I'm not an out of shape person, I do cardio 3 times a week at the gym and eat very well. But Miranda's barre class kicked my entire ass (in a good way!) Afterwards I did feel sore as expected of a rigorous hour long workout, but I still felt amazing. I slept like an actual baby and woke up still feeling great. Everyone at the studio itself was very friendly and Miranda was great. The flow of the class focuses on exhausting specific parts and muscles of the body one by one so you definitely get your moneys worth for a full body work out- not that $25 for the first week is unreasonable at all! I'll definitely be back, but note to self: Be sure to stretch a bit more next time!

I started in December and as a beginner rider, I appreciated the instruction that was given by 3 different instructors in 3 different classes that I took. Before I got on a bike, I was helped with seat position, and was helped in setting up my bike for my body frame. As we got ready to start, instructors explained hand positions, what we would be doing and most importantly they explained that we needed to go at our own pace. Of course my first class was difficult, but once I got the hang of it, I got a pretty sweaty workout. I also like that the room is dark and candlelit cause it really does help me zone out of my day and get a great workout in. Everyone, from the girls at the front desk, to instructors are very friendly and already know my name only after a few classes. Classes need to be reserved in advance, which sometimes is a not a good thing if your aren't sure if you can make the class, but for me, I have found that reserving ahead of time keeps me accountable and coming back for more! Theme classes are fun and I always leave sweaty and ugly!

For kids, you can expect games and activities that both keep the kids engaged and teach them Capoeira movements at the same time. Jen often sets up an obstacle course so the kids can practice sequences of cartwheels, handstands, jumps, kicks, and stretches. At first it seems like just fun and games but as the kids get older and more experienced the focus shifts to partner work, sparring, and improving specific movements. The kids class is excellent for kids who need to get their energy out, and for improving their health and athleticism. My son is noticeably more muscular after a year of instruction, even at his young age. For adults, one does not need to have any previous martial arts or athletic experience to learn here. I can tell Jen sets an objective for students for each class session, such as conditioning, improving a specific movement, or working on how students conduct the Capoeira "dialogue" with each other. Jen makes sure to break down each technique into the essential parts to match each student's skill levels. A whole range of movements and techniques are taught that emphasize both the martial and the art of Capoeira; from compact defensive movements to impressive acrobatic movements. After some time here you will find that you can do movements that you never thought you could before. We also spend time learning about Brazilian culture, Capoeira history, and the specific musical instruments and songs for Capoeira. The atmosphere of the class is welcoming, friendly, and supportive. There is no toxic competitiveness that you sometimes find at martial arts schools. No one is made to feel inferior because of their skill or fitness level. The training room is enormous for the class; there's always plenty of room for everyone to move, and plenty of mirrors to help students check their form. Jen is clearly passionate about Capoeira and it's a huge part of her life. This group has solid connections to Capoeira groups and mestres in Brazil and around the world. By being part of this group you get the opportunity to be exposed to the Capoeira community as a whole.

I had been waiting for three years to join another group before I took a chance on Candeias, and I haven't looked back ever since. Instrutora Agua-Víva (Jen Hobbs) brings a wealth of martial arts experience and fitness knowledge to her instruction, which supports the advancement of her students. The rigor is very high yet the atmosphere is uplifting, inspiring and fun. Instruction is differentiated for all types of students and there's a lot of opportunity for extra classes and events at the main academy. I'm pretty fortunate to have found my second family here at Candeias!

With the vague goal of "getting in shape"; I have had great results at Fitness Together. I now have better balance, can stoop, bend and lift things I forgot I was once able to do. Watching what I ate I steadily dropped 20 pounds. The exercise was the key. I am glad the trainers at FT know what they are doing. It has worked for me. The exercises always vary and don't rely on machines so I can add my own workouts. After a hard workout I am never sore for more than one day. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. I just show up. Charlie and Brad are always enthusiastic - even on days when I'm not. There is never more than one other client working out at a time and it is very clean with good changing rooms. Yes, it is costly, but how much have I paid in car maintenance over a lifetime? I am now backpacking in Europe and not sightseeing from a bus - thank goodness. I've made attempts in the past of awkwardly shuffling around 24-Hour Fitness trying to mimic what I saw in YouTube videos, but ultimately never felt like I understood how to actually lift weights and get any results. Hence, I joined Fitness Together with the goal of learning how to properly and safely lift weights. And I have to say that all the trainers at this location were fantastic. They listened to my goals, created a plan, kept me accountable, and answered by constant questions. In ~14 months of once-per-week sessions, I went from barely knowing what a barbell was to deadlifting and squatting with ease. As of today I have dropped ~1-2% body fat and gained ~8lbs of lean mass since I first started. Not bad! It is pricey, yes. But for me, I feel it was worth it as a way to learn the correct form and habits that I can use in the future. I always felt welcome and encouraged at this location, so I heartily recommend it if you want some help in getting fit but find it difficult to get started.
