I've been here many times and there's always something new to try. This visit I ordered the special Lovers Latte, with raspberry flavors. It was not overly sweet but just right. Still a good espresso base with just a touch of flavor. The vibe is friendly and easy going here. You can get in and out quick or stay to study, as many do. It's clean, parking is fairly easy and there's seating indoors and outside. They even have a coffee bag vending machine out front now. That's pretty cool.

I am a pour over junkie and look for coffee shops that have it and also brew pour over had home daily. These are the best beans around. I will often drive 20 minutes to Wake Forest just to get some. Whether you're wanting a great cup of coffee at their cafe or want to brew your own at home, it doesn't get any better than this! I recently bought a bag of Esteban Zamora and it was one of the most amazing cups of coffee I've ever brewed. Imagine a great cup of coffee with hints of cinnamon and apple pie but without being sweet and beautifully enhancing that warm, roasted goodness. I love the downtown Raleigh location too. They have a great courtyard patio to hang out and enjoy a cup of coffee when the weather is nice.

Playa Bowls is designed so well. It feels like a tiki bar on the inside. The staff were all super friendly and welcoming. I came in during the soft opening, unbeknownst that they were giving free bowls and smoothies between a certain time. I was shocked when my total was $0 and asked why. When I was told, I looked around for a tip jar. There was no tip jar! This place was HOPPING with people, all enjoying their free açaí bowls and smoothies...and no tip jar. Come on Wake Forest...do better! So, they created a tip jar and I gave them $20 because I was not prepared to come in and get free açaí bowls. Plus, they were working super hard and were all very kind. Now, these açaí bowls are DELICIOUS. My husband had the 8th Avenue with blueberry added and I had the Pura Vida with goji berries added. You guys. Playa Bowls is where it's at!!! The bowls are fairly large, not overly sweet, and I feel like I'm making a healthier decision over fast food. No other place nearby has goji berries, which is an obsession of mine. Huge bonus points! Playa Bowls is now my go-to. So happy this place opened!

When we arrived, we were seated right away and asked to choose our tea flavor. I loved that each person gets their own full pot of tea. It made the experience feel extra special. The food was absolutely delicious! We started with a fresh salad, followed by a beautiful three tier tray filled with sandwiches and desserts. From the scones to the bonbons and mini cakes, everything was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared. The staff were incredibly attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit. It truly felt like a full experience, not just a meal. If you are looking for something fun and a little different, I highly recommend trying the tea experience. And if that is not your thing, they also operate as a café where you can stop in and enjoy a treat without committing to the full tea service. Either way, it is definitely worth a visit!

Vlad here with another downtown Wake Forest eatery review!…read more White Story Cafe is on the corner of South White & East Wait Streets, sharing a bright, airy space with The Burger Shop, a separate eatery I will review in coming weeks. (For those of you familiar with the area, another eatery called The Lemon Tree used to occupy this space.) Women-owned, White Story offers fresh takes on standard cafe items - paninis, sandwiches, salad, soups and a variety of breakfast options. (See menu pics for more details and pricing). In the very relaxing ambience with bright and cozy seating, we enjoyed excellent service from Apple, one of the owners. Paul and I both had the Morning Waffle Special: a tender tasty waffle with a deliciously crispy crust, topped with a fresh egg as you like it, crispy smoked bacon and fresh avocado slices - let's just say both our plates were clean! The sweet Thai tea was fresh and paired perfectly with our meals. The hours are varied, check the website (or menu pic) and prepare to enjoy light and refreshing fare in a welcoming space - leisurely catching up with friends over the fresh-baked treats and coffee or noshing with a current read. Y'all know me now - I like the smaller, intimate places off the beaten path yet close to everything - this place is a gem for you to try!

It's a fairly extensive menu for breakfast. Time from order to service about 10 minutes. Food is good! Tried chicken and waffle. It's a plate-sized waffle, freshly made, topped with breaded chicken. Chicken is tender but a little dry. Nothing that a nice helping of maple syrup didn't fix. Also tried the morning waffle special. This is a waffle, topped with an egg, bacon and avocado slices. Served piping hot, freshly cooked and a sizable portion. Always good to have more quality dining choices in town. I'll be back!
