I used to not like going here, but it seems things have changed for the better. Its really relaxed, nice bartenders, fun sports crowd and new beers being thrown into the rotation often. Pretty nice little place here. It feels dive-y, but doesn't really feature any of the inconvenient nuances of most dives. The drinks were pretty cheap, the service prompt, and there was a pretty friendly atmosphere in general. I suspect that I was the only one that wasn't a local, and there was a decent amount of banter between the obvious regulars that was nice to see. They had a couple sports games running, along with a dog show (???), but there are also some arcade games and things like pool/shuffleboard. They don't serve any food at all here, which would be the icing on the cake for a 5-star review, but you still have the option of ordering from a nearby place and apparently they'll run it over for you (didn't try it though). Route 92 - Sports Bars Near Me - San Mateo, California

Boyfriend and I seek out any watering hole that we can walk to from my place... so last week we ended up in Route 92. He was in a suit, and didn't bring jeans and a tee shirt to change into so we went to a dive bar like that. ;) The bartender poured really strong drinks and they were cheap. Also they don't have a minimum for credit cards like some of our other local dives which is nice. The bartender was nice. The place was fairly busy but not over crowded. We will go back. read more

This is such a great local's bar, that I hate to even make it known how great it is and risk the tech/douchebag crowd dropping by and ruining the vibe. I came here last night for the first with two friends (one who is tight with the owner), and what a night it was. There was a pool table and shuffleboard, clean bathrooms, and homemade rigatoni in a buffet server for the customers! Who could ask for anything more? The clientele are good, honest, salt of the earth people: no pretentiousness, no fronting, no high-maintenance peeps ruining the vibe with pinkie finger raised. The owner Matt will take good care of you, and the craft beers on tap are second to none. I wish this bar was in SF so I could visit it more, because it made me feel right at home. LOVE this place! New owner as of last year! The place has cleaned up a lot. The bartenders are super nice and fun to talk to. This is pretty much a regulars bar (but what bar isn't?). I've gone here many times by myself (cause that's just what I do :) ), and I always end up striking up an interesting conversation with one of the locals. My favorite time to come here is for sporting events. They often have free food out for people to enjoy while watching the game. I would especially recommend coming here for Sharks games. There are not many bars on the peninsula that have a big Sharks fan base. The owner Matt in a big sharks fan! Besides sports and people, they have a pool table, shuffle board, and dart board. (might have one of those golf machines too, but I don't remember). If you're looking for a place that's not some fancy lounge shit, or not a big hole-in-the-wall, this is a great place. My favorite thing about this bar is when you first walk in; you need a couple minutes to adjust to the darkness of the room, but in those few minutes of blindness, you can still feel all the eyes of the patrons on you...wishing you were dead. So stumbled into this "dive bar" although I wouldn't call it a dive bar as it was much cleaner the most I have seen in the city of sf. Me and a friend were going to go to The Great Entertainer to shoot some pool but realize they didn't serve any alcohol but beer so we recalled parking by this bar and decided to hop in! Seems like a "local" hang out but I found the bartender (black hair mohawk) and some randoms in there really friendly!! Had some random locals spark up some conversation which was a great time killer and had a good time before we bounced out of there! Music played was great, some nice R&B, hiphop I heard a few times. My sister-in-law and I were thrilled to find this little dive bar off El Camino. The biggest perk is it's walking distance from where we live, so we plan on frequenting the place a fair amount. We went on a random Wednesday night, and there were actually a handful of people there given we got there at around 12:30. The bartender, Jeannette, was great-- mixing us different specialties of her own and really hooking us up. I can't remember the drinks that she gave us-- but she was awesome, because when we told her the drink was maybe a bit too sour for our liking, she totally sweetened it up for us. It's actually a Michigan bar, so I imagine it'd be fun to go on a Saturday and watch a game there. The one thing I remember is that they did have sweet tea vodka-- which is awesome. What a great bar! Stopped in during game 2 of the World Series. Great beer selection( well almost great, they do have three beers on tap that are similar) and a great staff. Happy hour ends at 8 PM and that is a huge plus with 3 dollar beers (Micro brews) and other drink specials. The place is funky as all get out which is what I like. I am sick of the "decor/FooFoo" bars, this one is old and funky. makes you want to hang around. They even have shuffleboard! And people play it! The owner, Jim, is a great guy and he is a HUGE Michigan fan. The pool table felt is Michigan, and there is a huge bunch of Michigan memorabilia all over. The rest of the staff is fun and and funny too. Bridget is great. One of the best bartenders ever. There is a covered outside patio area for smokers (no alcohol though). I never really went to Teddy B's......only a few times over the years I guess, but it just wasn't my type of crowd. I stumbled upon Route 92 sort of by accident. When I first went in I was greeted by an amazing bartender who made me feel comfortable right away, I decided to come back several days later and that same bartender not only remembered my name but what I drank. Nice! It didn't take long for me to tell my friends about the place and I guess you can say the rest is history! The new owner sure did clean the place up from what I remember of the previous place. This is a friendly neighborhood bar! It doesn't matter what time you go, there are always friendly people to chat, play pool, darts and share a drink with.....and isn't that what a neighborhood bar is all about? The new owner and amazing (and beautiful) bartenders make sure to keep the music/party going...whether it be the internet jukebox or whatever.....the place is all about fun!!! What a great SPORTS BAR, not dive bar! The owner, Jim is great as is his right hand woman, Bridget. It's a fun place to chill out -shoot a game of pool, darts, or play shuffleboard. There is always something going on, from the 3-game tournaments to Fantasy Football leagues. Superbowl Sunday parties and World Series nights! LOTS of good food at these events. I came here for the first time to meet my girlfriend's friends for a beer and some trivia. I offered my ID to the female bartender and she immediately was outwardly suspicious, and investigated it thoroughly. I will say, the black band on the back is pretty worn off, but I have never had a problem with it anywhere, and had honestly never noticed! After a full minute of looking at my ID with a flashlight and all, she came back and said that the bar wouldn't accept a "damaged" ID. This is my local bar and have to say I am a fan! Yeah, some of the people there a little drunk and annoying, but you can say that about any dive bar. They have a really solid selection of tap beers. Bear Republic, Olmmegang, etc. They don't rotate taps much but at least I have somewhere in San Mateo that services craft beer regularly (I like Sierra Nevada as much as the next guy but it gets boring). Happy hour is great too, you can't beat $3.00 pints of Racer 5 (4pm to 8pm). read more
