If you need a quick salad they offer salad buffet. It's the easiest way for picky eaters to fix their salad correctly.

Anytime I visit my grandmother, I make a point to go to Rouses to see if I can find items that remind me of foods I used to eat when I would visit these grandparents or the others that lived in New Orleans when they were alive. This time, Rouses seemed a little....what's the word....untidy. It had a weird funk inside that was not food related. I went to the salad bar to make a salad for lunch, and it was disappointing- the lettuce was wilty, the cheeses were hard from sitting out so long, the pasta salads looked close to having dysentery. Everything looked old, like it was at the very end of the time it should be on the table, so I decided against the salad and wound up buying a whole muffuletta to share with my mom and sister. That was just ok, I found it to be very dry. I perused the aisles and bought a few things I cannot get back home in south Florida, including some Hubig's pies for the family, especially my dad who said he loved those as a kid. I was sticker shocked to see that they were almost $3 each! Seems a lot of the prices at Rouses are astronomical compared to Walmart, Aldi and Winn Dixie. The cashier that checked me out was a younger guy who was not pleasant at all. He just stared blankly at me as I tried to greet him. He didn't even offer a "thank you" or "have a nice day." Really disappointing because 99% of the time when I am in Mississippi, people are very friendly, as opposed to south Florida where they're all cranky. Would I go back next time I visit? Probably. Would I buy a lot of stuff? Maybe. Would I visit the salad bar again? Definitely not. read more

I'm not sure who doesn't think this is the best supermarket for quality or service because they have always been way better than Walmart, Aldi, or the late Winn Dixie. Are their prices higher than Walmart or Aldi? Definitely, but I shop them for their sales as well as Aldi's and I can tell you that I have never bought meat from Aldi or Walmart. Top notch market. In from out of town and wanted to grab some essentials and other items I just can't get back in Michigan. The wall of Cajun spices was impressive! I know I will be back to grab more before we leave. Lots of options for seafood which is huge for us. We love fresh seafood. I also bought a king cake and it was badass!!! Friendly and helpful people work here! The sushi chef made a special order for me and was so gracious to do so. The folks who work the deli are also very open to special requests and work hard keeping the various grab and go stations fully stocked. When I enter the store through the floral department, I can't help but improve my outlook with all of nature's beauty there to admire. My only wish would be more overhead lighting in some areas that are rather dark. read more

A bit of a drive, but reminds me of Jewel - Osco which was our local higher end grocery store in Chicago. Known elsewhere as Albertson's. One thing I love about Rouse's is their support for small businesses and a lot of locally made food items on their shelves. Which for a guy formerly from Chicago, now living in MS, allows you to get a taste for the local area. Also, everything is of decent or above decent quality. They have great steam bags with a nice spring veggie mix, that taste great and are seasoned enough. Great selection of PRIME meat cuts and I usually make it a habit to try to visit it 1x a month even though it's about 30-45 minutes away. The store is always clean and well faced as well. A little dark inside, but everything is in a logical spot and I got used to the location of items quickly. Also the meat guy was patient and answered my questions about the more unique and colloquial items they had on offer, like what is Boudin, and that's it. That was the only alien thing in the display case. I don't recommend it, regretted getting it. It's clearly like GRITS, you either grew up with them and like them, or didn't grow up with them and can't acclimate to them. This is a great store, priced a little high, but the quality of items on offer is a lot higher too. Like I got concentrated coffee made in Mississippi that tasted AMAZING, every flavor I got, was great. Used them to make a pitcher of "STARBUCKS" ENERGY COFFEE/Protein Drink. It's nice going to a store that rotates their fruits and veggies enough that you're not running into moldy items like I have in my neighborhood store of Jerry Lee's now Ramey's. Thanks to Rouse's I discovered a quirky side of my shelter dog, Zelda. Bought a foam cooler and ice to put my refrigerated and frozen stuff in for the long car ride back home in the Mississippi summer, I live on the coast, meaning it gets hot. Got home, got the food inside, and was about to waste the ice, but decided I'd fill it with water and let the dogs enjoy ice water while I work outside. I hear a weird sound and see my girl jumping into the ice chest with her two front paws and just diving her head under the ice and pulling out an ice chunk. She's a Dutch/Mal/Lab/Pit mix about 60lbs. So not a tiny girl. Since then, when I work outside during the summer, I make sure to get a bag of ice, and swapped out the foam cooler for an igloo one, to great success. read more

I only needed a few things on my way in from a day of running around... what a cool store! So very well displayed from floral to the Bakery. I resisted in the floral department. I can go overboard with plants! I did impulse by at the bakery. I bought the best carrot cake. I'm frugal on groceries because I'm responsible for our health. But this is a splurge store for me! I haven't visited the Deli, but when the time comes I will. The store is very clean. The seafood was mostly seasoned or marinated which is not my preference when buying fish or seafood. The produce was beautiful! Bright, full very inviting. I hate having to buy pre bagged produce. This store solved that problem for me. The customer service was efficient, not particularly friendly. They efficiently get the job done, however not a happy looking crew on this particular day. I do look forward to returning this week and getting fresh produce! read more

I noted that this location needed refreshing in my previous review, and I found a bright, shiny refreshed store on my next visit, two years later. The did a great job, must have thrown some serious money into this remodeling. Dang, I spent money at the deli, and just had fun roaming this store, it looks so good ! Some prices are competitive with Wally World, many are not, but mostly, I'm not in the mood for a hassle, so I come here when I am visiting Ocean Springs. I'm never disappointed. read more

Really good store, especially when compared to other nearby options. They have a beautiful produce section that has many organic options. The flower section is right up front when you walk in. Paired with all the beautiful produce, it makes for a very enticing entry. They have a very good selection of non-dairy milks and a couple of vegan cheese choices. There is a pretty extensive selection of freezer vegetarians and vegan (& gluten free) meals. Much more than I can usually find in grocery stores in this region. The highlight, for me, is definitely in the sections I've mentioned. The store is well lit and has a nice clean feel to it when you're inside. From the outside, it looks a little lacking. I passed this store many times because of that, but I wish I had gone in sooner. read more

My husband and I relocated to the area in April of this year, and we have shopped at both the Ocean Springs and Gulfport locations. The Gulfport store definitely has a wider selection of items, but I prefer the layout of the OS store. We are HUGE fans of Publix and knew it would be difficult to find that type of service elsewhere, but for the most part we have been pleased with our experiences at Rouses. That said, I had an experience at the Ocean Springs location that both shocked and disappointed me. I needed 1 1/2 lbs ground beef but all the packaged ground beef was right at 1 lb. So I asked the young man if he could package up the amount I needed. He looked at me with a straight face and said, "Oh no, I can't do that." At first I thought he was kidding, but then he went on to explain that they had packaged up everything they had and the only meat available was that which was packaged up. Then he went on to say something truly ridiculous: "Just buy 2 lbs and use it; it'll be around 1.5 lbs by the time you finish." (He obviously doesn't know much about cooking or following recipes). I was truly flabbergasted & told him so. He didn't seem to care one bit that he had disappointed a customer. Publix they are NOT...not even close. Had I been in Publix and asked for that amount and they had no more meat to package, they would have opened up two of those 1 lb packages and repackaged 1.5 lbs for me...in a heartbeat! Looks like I might have to make regular Publix runs to Mobile to get the kind of service I'm used to. read more

I have always bought my meat at Rouse's, I am very picky and they have the best quality. I have driven from two towns over for years, just to shop here. Rouses in Gulfport much, much better than Ocean Springs. The closer you get to New Orleans the better Rouses seems to be better quality. I just bought a half Muffuletta in Ocean Springs. I could not finish eating the muffuletta. The bottom breading was very soggy, ham tasted off and old, and the olive salad dry. A waste of money $7.49. Never again. Somebody does not know how to make this Muffuletta. Needs a trip to New Orleans if this person continues to make this NOLA sandwich. And reading a previous remark, Publix is way better than Ocean Springs Rouses. read more

I've shopped here for the last time. Not accepting returns of any type is laziness, not a covid virus response. Sealed products are no more dangerous than your "sanitized" shopping carts. The only place in Mississippi where I have been able to find Sapporo and Asahi beer. Rouse's is great if you need to make a necessities run. The prices are great, the people are great and everything is easy to find. I've never gone here and found a checkout lane with more than five people in it, and I've gone during peak shopping times. read more

I've been a fan of Rouse's since they opened in Houma. I was very pleased when they opened in Ocean Springs bringing with them all the Louisiana fare that I grew up loving. Items I couldnt find anywhere in Mississippi! Great Satsumas, Mirlitons, Angelo Brocoto cookies, Fischer Wieser products, and my all time favorite Natchitoches meat pies! Even some of John Folse's soups , gumbo's and red beans. One thing I wish they carried is Creole Cream Cheese Ice Cream although they do have some in pints from New Orleans Ice Cream Company. Their prices are also very reasonable on lotsa products but Ive found their soda pricey. I also wish they carried New Orleans Nectar Soda. read more

Don't get the boiled or steamed blue crabs, meat was mushy and deviled eggs stunk, I brought them back and got refunded.

They have a pretty good selection of items you can't find in other grocery stores, like seasonings, cheeses, and such. They offer a salad bar where you can get what you like and pay by the pound. There seafood department always has something tasty and sells sushi to go as well. The floral department will make a special arrangement for you and always smells so good when you walk by. Bakery department has awesome customer service and even better cakes. We ordered the white almond butter cake for my Mom's 50th Birthday party and it was delicious! The staff is always friendly. They can be a little pricey on somethings and they do not have price guns to come around the counter and scan heavy items, those would be nice for them to have. read more

As far as grocery stores go, I really like this chain. We come from Texas, the land of HEB, and are on the lookout for something equally worthy here in town. Now, HEB they are not (you have to experience HEB to understand this...especially a mega HEB, if you can), but they are our favorite so far here. I just wish they had a location between this one and the Gulfport one. That being said, I prefer this one to the Gulfport one. It just seems nicer to me. Anyway, they are your typical grocery store. They have everything we need plus some local stuff that is new to us (helloooo almond petit fours!!). The employees have all been very nice. Prices are good, selection is good. The store has so much potential. It can be beautiful but without good customer service, it's nothing. Now, more than ever, they should be specializing in it to keep loyal customers. With "the big guy" monopolizing everything, they should be trying harder. This is the reason i dont shop there much. They never fail to make you feel like a bother to them. I love Rouses. It always has food like beer and cheese I can't find anywhere else. They always have the best cut of ox tail I have seen anywhere else and just recently the have had local organic grass fed beef! The only thing I am missing there is one gallon organic whole milk and they always seem to be out of cilantro. One would think they would order more cilantro. read more

Went in recently and was reminded why I go to Walmart instead. There were many people waiting in line to get checked out in only about four checkout lanes. I had only TWO items, yet there's no self check out or 10 items or less. This one girl was checking out one customer, but her light was not on. I figured she was about to close, so I got in the back of a long line. A lady came up and asked is she was open and she said yes and the lady got in line with her cart full off items. HINT...if your line is open, TURN ON YOUR f@%^&ng LIGHT. I should not have to guess as a customer. Anyway, I put my ice cream up on a shelf and walked out.
