This was the first time I tried Round Table pizza in Menlo Park. I ordered a pizza and some boneless chicken wings. I went to pick up and it was promised to be ready when they said , when I arrived it was ready. Took the food home and the pizza taste was about average. No one in the family really liked the boneless chicken wings. They were more like chicken McNuggets, but they tasted like spoiled fish with a a very mushy texture. We tried two pieces and felt this was not acceptable, not enough time to bring back that night , so I planned to bring back the next day. I brought it back and spoke to the manager , and I asked for a credit or store credit because the food did not taste good. I told him I had better things to do than to bring back something for $15 , It was more of the principle , and letting them Know the food was bad. But all he could say was he could not do anything about it. He said why I didn't I bring it back that same night ? it was late and I wasn't going to do that and eat my pizza cold when I got back. It was terrible customer service , and he didn't offer any apology and just turned around and left. Obviously he has no experience being a manager and he doesn't know anything about customer service. I told him that I would never come back and that he lost a Local Customer. End of story , if you go , you need to know what kind of people you are dealing with. The customer should always be happy !! Sometimes I set unrealistic expectations. I expect situations to go a certain way. I expect people to do or say certain things. I know it's not healthy, but I can't help it sometimes. So when I started to set my expectations for Round Table Pizza, I knew it wasn't good. What if it didn't taste how I expected? What if it didn't make me feel how I was expecting to feel? Was I setting myself up for disappointment? Maybe I was putting this pizza on a pedestal that it could never live up to. I could have been imagining a pizza that didn't even exist. It wouldn't have been the pizza's fault for not meeting my expectations, it would be my fault for expecting any pizza to make me feel like that. This used to be my favorite pizza growing up in the 80s and 90s...but all the stores have become run-down. The pizza isn't any less expensive but the stores and staff have gone downhill. The pizza itself is fine, but I wouldn't recommend eating in any of the locations--just get delivery. read more

ATTN: Strangest dine in experience My kids and I decided to dine in at this location to have lunch and study since it's generally quiet, calm and not crowded here. We sat in the furthest room in the back corner where no other customers were dining. Granted it was closest to the arcade and we didn't consider it might get noisy if kids came to play. Anyhow- since our table was filled with computers, notebooks and text books we used the nearest table for our pizza once it arrived. We were generally undisturbed, until things started getting weird. Kids playing hide and seek crawled under our table to hide- we laughed and kept working since they didn't stay long. Then a toddler boy came with his dad and played a few games- once they were done he cried and cried since he wanted to play more but his dad didn't allow it. This same toddler came back to the arcade without his parents and he was approached by a man I thought was his relative. He appeared to be playing with the toddler and then hugged him in a long embrace on two separate occasions. The toddler stared at him confused and did not hug him back. It was then I realized he didn't know this man at all, I stood up to tell the man something, when finally the toddlers father came and the strange man walked back to his table. The father looked concerned and I told him what happened but he didn't seemed phased by it. He may not have completely understood since he may have not spoken English. Despite the fact that I felt uneasy about what I just witnessed I kept eating and studying with my kids. When all of a sudden my daughter yells "hey!" When a teenage kid wondered out of the arcade just after grabbing two slices of our pizza. I stood up to see what the hell was going on and he was picking toppings out of the salad bar and placing them on top of the pizza as he is recording from his iPhone! At first I felt bad because I thought maybe the kid walked in from the street just hungry and short on cash so I was going to let it go. But the iPhone proved different! I told the cashier what he had done and he compensated us with a free small pizza. I honestly wasn't looking for free pizza but I was so pissed that our study session was so rudely interrupted in the strangest way. Not even at a busy, chaotic restaurant would I expect this type of dine in experience. Being that so many things were going on at once my family and I just packed up and left! However, since our visit I have called the manager and expressed my concern about the weird encounter between the man and the toddler. He seemed genuinely concerned and said he'd keep an eye out if he returns again in the future. The purpose of this review isn't to throw shade on the establishment (staff is very nice and pizza was great) but to bring awareness to a potential threat in the area. Before Domino's Pizza, California Pizza Kitchen, and Papa John's, there was Round Table Pizza. Did you know that the original Round Table Pizza was founded in Menlo Park along El Camino Real by one person in 1959? The founder, William Larson, came up with the RTP name when thinking of names for the restaurant over a redwood round table; thus the name Round Table Pizza Parlor. He wanted to create a place where families could go to relax, to experience a real sense of community, and to share a superb pizza. As one of the pioneers of pizza, I didn't get to meet him, but I am well acquainted with his son, Bob. He owns two locations; the original location in Menlo Park and another in Palo Alto. These two locations are still not franchised. I used to work right next door to his Menlo Park location and didn't even know this was the location where it all started. The current location is spacious with two separate dining rooms. Arcade and pinball games are located in the front room along with the ordering station. You can visibly see the pizza makers creating the pizzas by scratch while using fresh ingredients. The place still houses its original wood furniture and it smells like team spirit. If you like thin crust pizza, then this is the place for you. I'm sure everyone's heard of RTP and it has some stiff competition, but if you want to get a taste of RTP at it's finest then you best come to this location. Creative names such as Maui Zaui, Smokehouse Combo, and Wombo Combo still grace the menu's presence. I grew up with Round Table Pizza ever since childhood, and I know RTP is here to stay. RTP is one of those pizza joints that generations will learn to love and keep going to when they want to have a pizza that resembles close to home. We dropped in last night 6:15 pm and I was hungry for some good pizza. Call the owner. I'm sorry Yelpers; but this place short shifted our large $28.99 pizza. We ordered a simple pepperoni pizza. I saw 3 other people there when I got there. After a reasonable time, they brought us the pizza; it had hardly any sauce and some slices had no pepperoni on them. The crust tasted bland and the cheese too. The place had 3 people in the back area and they were nice enough. After we paid for the pizza; they didn't even think we might need cups for water! I write my 3 star review with very mixed feelings. Pizza is my favorite food in the world, I grew up in Menlo Park and so I am honored to have the original Round Table Pizza parlor located there, AND, I think Round Table Pizza is by far one of the best pizzerias on the planet. I'm sad to say that the salad bar at this location is a catastrophe. The salad bar cart seems to be a newer piece of equipment because it has frozen "ice" all over it. The problem is that the "ice" creeps into each of the topping dishes so everything is frozen to itself. Beets, FROZEN together. Eggs, FROZEN together. It was just gross. I powered through, pregnant and all, and still had a salad that was rather flavorless. The Pizza however, amazing. I would give it 10 stars if I could. The other reason for my 3 star review - the pin ball machine SUCKS. My husband and I played a few rounds and it lacks power. Its no fun if you can't get a high score. The management should think like a customer in there and make some minor improvements. Bathrooms clean, very clean but rather grungy. They could use a face lift. I heart round table. read more

A Round Table, is a Round Table, is a Round Table right? RT is the place you go after a weekend kids sports game or a birthday party. You go to have their lunch or family night buffet. I've been to RT all over - Bay Area, Sacramento, North Valley countless times. It's pretty cookie cutter, but until I moved here, I thought it was all a big faceless corporation. When I found out that RT was founded right in Menlo Park by a family, I was surprised. I knew I'd have to check it out. This was a take out order though, so I can't comment on the dine-in experience. We called and asked what their specials were. We decided on the $12 large chicken BBQ pizza. Great price considering that pizza is normally over $20. When we went to pick it up, the place was pretty quaint. Tons of pictures of the founders and the old decor. The pizza came up pretty fast considering we just called it in. We drove home (about 5-10 minutes) and were treated to a piping hot masterpiece. The amalgamation of a light, crispy, not too thick, not too thin crust with ooey gooey cheese, BBQ sauce (just enough, not overpowering) and bacon, green onions and chicken was heavenly! The 3 of us polished that off - they were not skimpy on the toppings. I hope my future pizzas from this location are just as good! read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. Let me see if I can break it down. I called in to have the pizza ready by the time I arrive because I was short on time. They said it'll be ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived 15 minutes later, they said it'll be ready in 15 minutes. Mmm the math didn't add up there; 20 minus 15 does not equal 15. Oh well. So me and my buddy is sitting there waiting for our pizza with a pitcher of Sierra Nevada. It was refreshing because they chilled the glasses too. 15 minutes later, they discover that our pizza was ready a while ago and it was sitting there getting cold!!! What a kick in the knutz. I grabbed a slice and asked them to reheat. The guy was very nice about it and apologetic. $24 for a large room temperature pizza was so-so. That flavor became so popular that they revolutionized to over 500 stores. The Menlo Park Round Table Pizza is the original store that started it all and still managed by the original family. We came here on a Tuesday night, and this location has 50% off all pizzas every Tuesday. We got 3 large Pizzas, Pineapple and ham, combination, and a bbq chicken. We also got 24 piece buffalo wings with some ranch dressing. The total came out to $57. A great pizza starts with the crust. The crust was light and crispy. The sauce was strong with a hint of tangy-ness. The cheese was not too strong and not too light. The food came out hot and tasty. The restaurant is a dated retro with some stained glass shield crest on the ceilings. They even have a large banquet room area with a fountain and pond. Too bad they didn't have actual round tables for dining. Everything turned out great except it took a very long time before the pizza was done (30+ minutes). If you are dining in, I would suggest calling in your order in advance. I think it was cool to dine and to have a taste of American Pizza history. read more

I love this pizza. The sauce and cheese blend is the best you are going to find from any pizzeria in this price range. When I want pizza I quite literally think Round Table. Sure, the price is more than a low cost (low value) pizza, but good god the quality of this place kicks the snot out of upscale pizza chains like Amici's or Blue Line. I used to take my college friends from out of state here to eat and nobody could believe that a) this was a chain and b) that they didn't have Round Tables where they were! As for this location specifically, I love it. The employees are always in a good mood and the quality of service is always spot on. Can't beat the lunch buffet special! Love going here on my lunch break during the weekdays. I think I might go there too much, however, because everybody recognizes me and knows exactly what kind of pizza I like, which they in turn make for me and let me know exactly when they put it out so I can get it nice and warm. The salad bar sometimes I feel could be a bit more fresh, but I do like that they have a good selection of fruits and veggies. And how could I forget to mention the cinnamon roll pizza crusts??? The ORIGINAL Round Table...much to my surprise, this location is the FIRST Round Table ever. From the food, you wouldn't be able to tell but the interior is definitely dated (which is a good and bad thing). The place is in major need of a remodel but it's a great place for parties/large groups due to the banquet room. New carpeting and general up-keep would really help. The reason for the five stars??? I purchased several pizza's for my daughter's birthday party. I called a few days before the event to place the order. I mentioned that I had coupon for 15% off, which they verbally applied to my order. The woman who took my order did not give the directive that I needed to physically bring the coupon with me when I picked up the order (or else I would have). When I arrived to pick up and pay for my order, the person at the registered said that I needed to bring it with me and wanted to charge me full price. When I told them that I was not asked to bring it with me and therefore didn't know to do it. The cashier then asked another employee who looked at me with no compassion for my situation and said no. I was then faced with not having food for my daughter's birthday party or paying full price. Needless to say, I opted to go with the former of the two options. I called back and spoke to the manager/owner and told him about my situation. He said he would refund the difference in the form of a check. It's been over a month and I have yet to receive anything. I guess it is one of the better take-out chains in the area....Actually some of their offerings are up to the "Apple W"'s offerings further up on El Camino. Like the convenience of just swinging by and their online ordering tools. Toppings are fresh, good quality and plenty. Of course, if you crave a pizza at rush hours, the quality can vary a little....but I guess that is anywhere in the area..same as the higher pricing for 'made to order' pizza. This is the original Round Table Pizza place and it shows (in a good way). I go in for the lunch buffet which includes a salad bar and selected pizza slices. The salad bar is decent. The greens are always fresh and clean and the additions are what you would expect. The salad dressings aren't great but they're not bad either. I'm very simple when it comes to pizza: pepperoni is all I need. They usually keep the pepperoni pizza pan fresh so I'm happy on that score. The pizza is pretty good. I like the crust. The sauce isn't too sweet and the cheese is definitely tasty. The pepperoni they use is the small ones that cup up a bit and crisp around the edges. I happen to like that. This is a great, inexpensive, lunch option in downtown Menlo Park. read more

I, Nolan M, am going to give the Round Table a 5 star rating. The service is quick. It takes about 20 or 35 minutes to make the pizza, but if you order it online it takes like 1 hour for the pizza to arrive. My favorite food to get is the cheese pizza and the BBQ chicken pizza. The prices are a little high example: the large BBQ chicken pizza is 23 dollars and a medium is 18 dollars. If you go inside, it is clean even though I don't really go inside. My Maui Zaui Pizza came in timeframe promised, reasonably warm, and was well made. my only comment....Holy cow Batman, $24 for a medium that I can almost eat myself in my spare 160 lbs. Quoted 45 minutes delivery, but took a little over an hour. Pizzas were warm. 30 hungry ppl... only half a pizza left. I had a slice of the South Style BBQ Chicken. Half of it was just plain cheese - a bit disappointed. But definitely tasty. The Gourmet Veggie was done well - generous amounts of zuchinni & artichokes. yum. Hawaiian was popular. Whether you order take out or eat in the restaurant one can't go wrong with Round Table Pizza. It's in the pricer range for pizza, but the taste and quality is spot on. This location has actually working machines which is a plus when you gone it's the kids. They also have sports on their large TV's when going with your sports fanatic. The ambience is in the loud side but everyone seems to have a great time. It definitely reminds me of the local pizza joint one goes to celebrate their team or going on their first middle school date. read more
