First time trying Trinidadian food!! The restaurant has plenty of indoor seating and very clean. We stopped here between our drive from Philly to Asbury Park. My friend introduced us to this place and the menu was a bit overwhelming at first because many items looked enticing. It was difficult to pick what I wanted to settle on ordering. There were plenty of items that I've never tried before. We ended up with: 1. Curry chicken with Dhalpuri 2. Shrimp Doubles 3. Phaloree 4. Side of Callalo 5. Cassava Pone I didn't realize that Trinidadian cuisine is heavily influenced by Indian cuisine! (Which I'm also not familiar with). The curry chicken was so tender and tasted more like a stew than a creamy curry which I really enjoyed. I wasn't a big fan of the doubles since they didn't put that many shrimp in there (2-4 small shrimps total). I was definitely overloaded with carbs after this meal. My favorite item was the phaloree. They were these seasoned dough fried to perfection and you dip them in this sauce - guilty but addicting! I also love cassava and the cassava pone is delicious. The texture is hard to describe but it's like ... a grainy dense pound cake. Can't wait to stop by again and try other items on their extensive menu! Tips: Their online website has great descriptions of each dishes in the menu section if you're not familiar with the items!

The day before my birthday and all I could think of is the peppery bite of a Roti Plus doubles with extra pepper... The heft and savory chicken curry of their dahl puri roti and the cool crunch of a bake and shark. All I can say is that Roti Plus never disappoints and even with a big dinner planned this is the highlight of my birthday weekend....

It felt like home. And I'm not even from Trinidad. But, boy oh boy, you want to be when you taste the goodness of the food that is prepared and served with love at Roti Plus! Upon entrance, it stands out that the place is very open and clean, inviting feeling for me. Visited on a Sunday, late afternoon, and it was the right amount of people where you didn't feel like you had to wait forever to eat or that no one wanted to be up in here lol. The service was really friendly and fast. As a family, we ordered curry goat with sides of callaloo, macaroni pie, rice and peas, with cabbage... a curry goat roti with pumpkin added, a shrimp doubles and a chicken doubles.. to wash it down with mauby. Man oh man.. started off with the doubles and it was magnificently tasty and filling. That could be a meal in and of itself.. the bara was perfect.. just the right amount of sweet and chew to offset the savoriness off the protein, chickpeas, and sauce. I could eat one daily. The curry goat was flavorful and juicy.. macaroni pie was good. Callaloo... I could eat a whole bowl by myself. It was just all the right amount of tastiness. My husband said that the mauby was just perfect. I've made it myself at home and I like that I'll have this as a model from now on. We live about 40 minutes away, but our plan is to visit 2x a month.. the food is that good.

My first review was on the conservative side. I wasn't familiar with this specific cuisine but loved it from the start. I think I contemplated updating this a few times but amnesia occurred. After my recent visit I knew it was high time to do just that. I think my fav entree is the curry chicken, bone in or bone off for slightly more. The chicken is never over cooked and literally soaked in the spices. I kind of prefer the white rice over the rice and beans, it's buttery and not like Asian rice. I just tried the chicken curry aloo pie. This was a large fry bread with chicken and potatoes and just enough curry sauce. Anything wrapped in this would be great, but that curry combo is bomb. I also really like the currant rolls, and they've gotten to be a very nice size. I regret that I have yet to try the bake and shark or the duck, I seem to keep missing Daffy. Key to this 5 star review is the friendly and patient customer service. Regardless of who waits on you. There is ample space to eat in but it seems to get more takeout. To me this might be my favorite casual takeout place in Hamilton. The portions are huge and prices are reasonable. But the food itself is what I'll come back for.

The best Trinidadian food I have had in a long time. It was worth the 45min drive. The food was great and they give good portions. We will be back!!

My husband and I found this place by accident. If you're looking for authentic Trinidadian food, this is it! We had doubles, aloopie, stew chicken and channa and aloo with buss up shot, pholourie, and seamoss! Nothing was disappointing! So so good!

The food was ok, the service not so ok The lady gave me wrinkled forehead mood while she was making my order (when you squint to make a mad face and your forehead wrinkles) yup the whole time. I got a shrimp roti, I asked for extra shrimp 2 times and she kept saying huh, huh. (No extra shrimp) My son ordered Curry chicken with vegetable fried rice and spinach, her response was huh, huh? I don't think people usually order fried rice but that's what he wanted and that's what I was paying for. Next thing you know a gentleman comes out greets me with a smile and continues to complete my order. Unfortunately by that time I was way turned off. I was so happy that I found this roti shop after having a not so pleasant experience at another roti spot. Ambience, service and food hits the spot. I had doubles, aloo pie, and some roti skins. I also noticed that they had some Bertie's pepper sauce on the counter (iykyk) and grabbed a bottle. This Roti shop is worth the trip! read more

I've been googling places for months to find Buss Up Roti and the fact that they have Bake&Shark everyday, I decided to try. Made my bff go with me, she doesn't know much about this type of food but was willing. The place was super clean, the lady at the counter was nice. We ordered ALOT of take out. When we heard the front counter lady call out our order to MOM our eyes lit up, we knew then it was going to be good and it was. We enjoyed EVERYTHING we got. Worth the 50min drive. A family run business that deserves to thrive and prosper. Stopped by and picked up some doubles and an Aloo Pie for lunch. So good!!! Ordered a bunch more to go. The owner was so friendly and kind. When I mentioned I was going to store the food for a while and was gonna to pick up ice across the way, he offered a small bag of ice to keep my food fresh. So excited to try this restaurant. Our go to place in Scotch Plains closed and we haven't had real Trini food in years. Prices are reasonable as well. read more

One of the best Doubles, aloo-pie, daalpuri that you will get without crossing the Hudson. Have been there only once as the location is but far for me. I liked the daal puri the best and that goes well with any curry, where the popular ones are chicken, ox tail or curry goat. read more

This is, honestly, our new favorite place to eat. The Caribbean cuisine is very influenced by Southern Indian food and it's very well-made here. Great experience dining in and with takeout, the Bake and Shark was fabulously good. Perfectly spiced, lightly breaded and fried shark meat on a fry bread sandwich with delicious condiments, every bit as good if not better than in Trinidad. We also had the chicken and goat roti as well, delicious curry and excellently made dhalpurie. The chicken and shrimp aloo pies were so good. The service was great, will definitely be back again. A must visit in the Hamilton area or from anywhere. It is just that good! read more

This place is so good. Got the doubles with a little hot sauce and the mango salsa. INCREDIBLE. And the people who work here are super nice. I lived in Bedstuy Brooklyn for a bit and ate a lot of Trinidadian food there. I was back in my hometown of Hamilton for a few weeks and wanted to see what was up with the spots around here. We love the food at Roti Plus. We did a large order of doubles, roti, aloo pies, dhal puri with chicken, roti skins and bake and shark. We called ahead to place our order. Samantha and owner were very pleasant on the phone. When we finally arrived, we received a warm welcome and paid for our order. We enjoyed the food and we shared some with a Trini friend who doesn't live too far from us. Everything tasted great, my 80 year old Trini mom loved the bake and shark and the aloo pies. My son and I enjoyed the doubles and roti. My friend's face lit up seeing the food. Just wanted the owner and team to know that we appreciate you and all the love you put into your food. The food here is delicious. Going AGAIN today. Bake $ Shark, great. Bake and Salmon, wonderful. Buss up shut, layers and layers of buttery goodness. Doubles with duck, off the chain. It's a relatively unassuming space; we went during the week, so it wasn't super crowded, but we had a good time there together. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Roti Plus, a fantastic Trinidad restaurant, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! We tried the shark and bake, oxtail, doubles, and stew chicken. Every dish was authentically prepared and incredibly fresh. The flavors were outstanding, truly capturing the essence of Trinidadian cuisine. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, adding to the wonderful dining experience. The food was great when it comes to flavor and the buss up shut was soft and tasty. I give 3 stars because i ordered a beef buss up shut and got stew beef with curry potato. Never in my 54 years of curry i ever heard of this being a beef buss up shut. And the stew beef was tough and chewy! When i called about this the person just non-chalantly told me its on their menu. Well i called to order and should have been made aware at that point that its not a "regular" buss up shut. Its just courtesy. Who would pick that up? The communication wasnt the best. Visited roti plus while I was in the Trenton, NJ area. The location it self was easy to find and there's a good amount of parking spots in the plaza. The roti shop was clean and there's seating to eat inside. The food was delicious! The doubles and the roti was tasty. There was only 2-3 people working but the food was served in decent time. The staff was friendly and warm. All in all I had a good experience. I will definitely return and recommend to others. read more
