One of the worst experiences I had with a staffing company in my entire life, and for the following reasons:
All Executives Interviewing Me Were Non-POC: Their website keeps pushing diversity, yet all the people that had interviewed me were non-POC. I found them to be quite hypocritical given I interviewed with 5 non-POC individuals and meanwhile, I was the only diverse woman of color. All of the people interviewing me also appeared threatened by my experience. Their mannerisms and behavior did not exhibit excitement or a welcoming disposition. On the contrary, some or most of them appeared threatened that I had so much experience.
Extremely Questionable Hiring Practices: They made me go through 5, 1 hour interviews, a personality test, a cultural assessment, a long online Q&A. All of this took a very, very long time. I basically was told that I got the position and that all I needed to do was go for a 6th interview with the VP. 1 hour before the interview to congratulate and welcome me into the company they called and said, "Oops, we changed our minds. We're going to now change the position to a more junior-level position." Who does that? No company should put a candidate through this. I've spoken to several human resource experts and they all said that this was unethical.
I Was Asked Questions About My Ethnicity During The Interview: I was asked by one of the people, "What's it like to be, you know, a person of color." This question had nothing to do with the job role. This question had nothing to do with how well I could perform the job, or anything. The person tried to claim that they had loved ones with a diverse background, but that still didn't make me feel more comfortable. This type of question is illegal and it shouldn't be asked during an interview. The person claimed that the question was meant to simply provide a POC an opportunity to share their story. But, I still found it to be highly inappropriate.
The only positive experience was that the initial recruiter that found me and asked me to apply was very nice and meant well. The initial recruiter was pretty surprised by the internal team's decision to not only put me through so many interviews, but to take it so far only to "change their minds." For all of the above reasons, Roth Staffing was one of the worst experiences. This was for an internal position at their company. I do not recommend or trust this company to put their candidate's wellbeing first. I do not trust this company to utilize a humanized, ethical approach to the hiring process. There should be absolutely no reason to put a candidate through 5, 1-hour interviews, a personality test, a cultural assessment, a long online, fill-in-the-blank Q&A, tell them they got the job, schedule them for yet another 6th interview, and then change your mind. No one should be dehumanized like this.
Note: I stand by my experience. I have a right to share my experience here on Yelp. I had a previous *approved* post that was somehow removed because the company had taken down their page and started a new account in order to bury my review or get rid of my experience. This company is literally trying to throw my experience in the trash. When this is what happened to me. I have a master's and 20+ certifications. I am a woman of color, and the above hiring practices should be known to all candidates looking for a job. Staffing companies like this prey on vulnerable job seekers. Job seekers have a right to know the positive reviews along with the negative reviews. read more
