Ramon was happy to use after market rear air bags I bought on Amazon for $130 (not $3,700) and asked for $360 in labor to complete a job that took him less than two hours. I paid him $400, in labor instead. Why? I've been a professor at USC for 50 years and enjoy interacting with some of the brightest colleagues and students in America. Ramon is as smart and competent as the best of them. The only difference is he's a little more pleasant and honest. If he has a flaw, it is that he under charges for his high level of competence. Also, I was appreciative that he would use parts I provided (which no other shop I talked to do). As I left Ramon's shop he noticed my front tires (that had 27,000 miles) were bald on the inside and should be replaced. I purchased two new front tires from Firestone and had my Equus aligned that samed day. The alignment technician told me the extreme tire wear was caused by the 12-year-old worn from air struts on my Equus. My local Hyundai dealer wanted $10,000 to replace these ($7,600 parts, $1,500 in labor, and $800 in tax). I purchased a pair of new air struts on Amazon for $614 and scheduled a next day appointment to have Ramon install them. He charged me $450 in labor to replace both with an after market pair I bought on Amazon. As Ramon finished he suggested I keep the old front air struts should one of the new ones fail, as he was sure both were still usable. He politely pointed out the Firestone technician seemed not to understand air suspension systems nor alignment, because Ramon was pretty sure the front tire wear was caused by their poor alignment work, not the 12-year-old air struts. Ramon is a the best of the best! I've owned and had dozens of cars serviced in my 64 years of driving. I've never met a more competent and honest mechanic, and I'm pretty confident you haven't either. If you own a vehicle with air suspension, treat yourself and have Ramon service it.

Even though I do not live anywhere near the shop, it is worth it to me to drive the extra miles or have my truck shipped/towed to Powerlab because I know they will take care of me and in the long run, I end up saving. After a thorough inspection, they identified a leak upstream of the catalytic converter and another downstream before the muffler. The muffler itself was completely compromised by rust and required replacement. It would have a hard time to stay on when at a stop or red light. Tim (the carb specialist) was able to figure out why it was idling rough. Luis was great help in going into depth about what the problem was. The same day I went to pick up the Mustang, it began to misfire. They were able to identify a spark plug issue and switched out all 8 spark plugs. I no longer have a carb issue or misfire. She rides smooth. Had already spent $1,000 trying to resolve issue to no avail. Alex and I discussed issue and he determined problem was in the engine harness somewhere. While tracing the harness, he found a loose bolt holding the ground strap to the cylinder. The bolt had been crossed thread and was loose, probably from 20 years ago when the car was bought. A shop should stand behind the parts they use. Our…read morecatalytic was stolen. We took it to Vern at Sweeney's who replaced it. Insurance paid. We also bought his key-locked catalytic protection system for which we paid $500 cash. Shortly after, the check engine light came on. Took it to Auto Zone where they ran a test showing "00420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1". So (we thought) a bad cat was installed. ****EDIT: Not a bad cat... After taking it to other shops it looks as if it was not the new catalytic but a cheap and defective sensor. Make sure they use OEM sensors.**** And don't rush into a second costly cat replacement. It may be a cruddy sensor. A catalytic converter replacement should last tens of thousands of miles. Since this shop did not stand behind the work and the parts, we sadly cannot recommend it.
