She quickly brought out our drink order along with chips and salsa, which was very tasty with a little kick. The kid's plate was plentiful and good for our granddaughter. Our daughter ordered the enchiladas suiza which she stated were very good. My husband chose the special which he really enjoyed. I chose a bowl of menudo, which was good but not the best I have had in RGV. We will be back to try something else on the menu!

I had the barbacoa breakfast plate, which comes with barbacoa, two eggs your way, beans, and tortillas. The barbacoa was so tender and delicious, while the beans and eggs were cooked perfectly, full of flavor. Our corn tortillas were also on point. We felt like we had gone back in time due to the prices and portion sizes. I believe my meal was $6.99, and it was one of the more expensive breakfast selections. All six of us ate well for around $50. The service was also excellent and the setting was just right. Kinda old school in there - and it was easy to see why it was full of locals.

But what's funny is that it's a cafeteria kind of situation instead and it works well for the style and flavor they've developed. This spot is a one woman operation (as far as I can tell) with 10 types of tortilla fillings. They include a myriad of flavahs, from carne guisada to asada, puerco verde to chicharon. You choose what you want, for under $5, and are served your tacos piping hot with salsa on the table for extra hawtness. I'm not sure that I'll make a big effort to head back here but really the food is richly flavored, inexpensive and authentic. Just make sure you've got a spanish speaker with you!

If you're not looking for this place or haven't been here, you may not find it because it is somewhat hidden from the road. Outside you wonder if it's a restaurant. Inside - different story. It's a bit small but very comfortable both in size and atmosphere. We tried their breakfast taco plate which actually has 3 tacos and beans or potatoes. The tortillas are phenomenal - some of the best we've ever eaten! The tacos are much larger than most breakfast tacos and they come like a taco - not the traditional south Texas breakfast taco that others think is a burrito. We tried potato egg and cheese, bacon egg and cheese and sausage egg and cheese. All of them were very good and you can tell everything is made fresh. The refried beans were good - some decent flavor - not the best I've had, but way better than a lot that I've had. The salsa was good - not very 'spicy' but not bad either. Both the quality and the freshness - and definitely the tortillas - will have U.S. coming back again!
