I understand why stores have security. I work a large retail store, but having people watch you from the time you walk in and have supposed security keep checking on you posing as customers is taking this to extremes. This review is for Ross internal process. Not sure if it's new or not but they now have you show your receipt to loss prevention (store security) prior to leaving. The way the this store is set-up, security is literally right in front of the cashiers while your items are being checked out. This process they have implemented is more annoying than effective for identifying stolen or missed scanned items. read more

We visited on a Friday mid morning, parking was easy and the store was not crowded at all. There was plenty of women's clothes to check out but I was kind of disappointed with the kids section, specifically the girls section. There was not too much to look at but I get Ross is either going to be hit or miss spot. The site itself was clean and well organized! Even the toy section! The bathrooms are disgusting. According to the lady at the dressing room she said they have someone that comes in every day. While I was talking to her the manager came by and I tried to speak to the manager.. She said the mess that was in that bathroom was from today and when I said no that that bathroom floor was dirty and had not been mopped in some time she acted like she was too busy to listen and walk away. I have a cleaning service and I know when a bathroom has been cleaned or not you look around the store it is very dirty and if they have someone coming in daily they should fire them and get someone else. Wow has this store in Manteca gone downhill. It's so sad as it is obvious it's terrible management. I even talked to 3 employees that admitted how bad it was and that it was the new management. Also that they were short staffed, but I saw several people doing busy work instead of checking out customers when there were empty cashier lanes with lights on and no one manning them. Yet they were collecting some hangers. Stock is messy and all over the place. No sizing where it should be. I will go nextdoor to Marshall's or over to Burlington from now on. It's okay, as long as you don't trust too much. Someone told me in the past that every piece of clothing that they sell is irregular. If that's the case, it should be marked as such. It is not. I seem to remember data breaches to their credit card systems way back before it was big business to steal. I pay cash when I shop at the stores, as with Marshalls and TJ Maxx. You will find one-of-a-kind merchandise, not because it was a designer's only piece, but because these are leftovers and closeouts. You need to shop the store weekly to find the values. It's even more inconsistent than Big Lots. Even at the discounted prices, it feels as though many items are still expensive, considering the effort in finding them. You might as well go to the thrift store. I wonder how the prices compare to Saks Off-Fifth or Nordstrom Rack. I was always too casual at this kind of shopping to keep track. read more

On the outside of the facade it looks big. Once you walk into the place it's so small. It's like the feeling on Christmas Day. You open up you're gift and you get a piece of coal. But you've been very good all year. That's how I feel about this place. I'm disappointed. The employees are friendly and the store is shop-able. The size and there's not much merchandise to shop around. I only bought from this place only one time. That was all because I needed variety I needed more. The organization of the checkout line is what really impressed me the most. Although the line was halfway through the store it went really fast due to the organization. Now don't get me wrong the rest of the entire store was a bit disorganized as are most Ross Department stors. I did love that they had such a large selection of luggage and I even found a nice big suitcase that i've been searching for!! First off, I love Ross! But this one in particular, not so much. They ALWAYS have 1 to 2 checkers. ALWAYS! There could be 15-20 people in line and management will not call someone else to come and help. Also, I absolutely HATE this new thing they have In place at this and other Rosses where the employees have the customer take the clothes they are purchasing off the hangers while waiting in line and then the customer has to rip their own receipt when purchase has been completed. I couldn't find a particular size pant at the local JCPenny's, so I went here and low and behold, I found it!!! At a ROSS for goodness sake too! I walked out of this store extremely disappointed today! A little girl had fallen because she tripped over a hanger that was on the floor. Luckily she did not get hurt. Her father had caught her before her head hit the floor. With seeing that, I walked over to a manager named Victoria and asked her if there was anyone that can clean up the isles by the shoes. I told her that a little girl had fallen and mentioned that, that could have been a law suit. I even pointed out who the girl was. Victoria was not very happy when I mentioned this to her. She was rather annoyed. She followed me to the shoe isle and she started throwing shoes on the shelves off the floor. I showed her which hanger it was because the father kicked it under the shelves. I am extremely bothered because Victoria as a manager did not even approach the family to see if the little girl was hurt. She completely ignored them. She did not have any compassion or decency to check on them. They didn't even get an apology. It was very frustrating to see that it was handled poorly. After I paid for my purchase, I saw the family still outside and I went over to them to see if the little girl was ok. Her dad said she was fine and thanked me for checking. It is absolutely unacceptable for Victoria not to do her job properly as a manager. I called back after I got home to speak to her manager and the employees their could not comprehend anything I was saying. When I asked for corporates phone # for customer service while I was there, I was given a card with a balance inquiry phone #. CONS: False Advertisement, Incredibly rude staff = Manager arguing with Wallace. loss prevention was threatening upon entrance and exist. Ross is pretty great. I mean especially if you want a good deal on some pretty good products. I usually go here for random gifts for my friends. The front is nice and organized and they're pretty quick to get you in and out if you want to. I just bought a bunch of themed glasses from there. You know, drinking glasses with Luke Skywalker or Spock on them? Yeah..I'm cool like that. I had a great experience and I love finding stuff to spend money I don't have on, and this is that kind of place. This store is always very clean compared to other Ross stores that I've been to. The staff are friendly. I've never had any issues.

So last night, I went up in here with my 6 year old niece! I decided to stop by, because it was a new store. So I broused through my size and then my 16 year old size for a coat. Then my niece ask can she go look at her size clothes. I guide her to her size and go look at the coats for teenager. Well I didn't get to stay long because my niece who is 6 YEARS OLD that was just suppose to be looking at clothes in her size had her hands full of Hannah Montanah, High school musical, Camp Rock shirts, and she did not stop there because she had some cute little pants that she wanted to rock with her disney shirts. I had to get the hell up out of there because that was a "AUNTIE" with puppy dog eyes trap! I feel sorry for the people who have to work here.. not sure who's to blame but there is never enough cashiers! 2 cashiers on a weekend and it's always like that at this location. I usually wait and go to other stores like Modesto or Livermore. Most of the cashiers are usually nice even though they have to deal with the irritated customers after waiting 10 to 15 minutes in line. I go to Ross for the good deals. That's about it. I think a lot of people feel the same way. I live very close to this Ross so I go quite a bit. Every single time, I have had horrible service. The ladies there are VERY rude. I bought a huge cart full of items recently and as the girl was checking me out she said with a dirty look "you know you can't take that stuff out with our cart right?". I couldn't believe it. I said "well, I guess I need to set some stuff aside and take a few at a time to my car." She said "I guess". And DIDNT HELP ME! I can see if it was super busy or something, but it wasn't! How rude! I love shopping. I love shopping here because if you really look you can score some great finds! I came last night to look for some shoes and a new dress for my upcoming Vegas trip and I hit the jackpot. I also found a new purse which is a guilty pleasure of mine. The prices are so great that you can always buy a little extra coming here. The customer service is ok. Nothing extra but nothing lacking either. You can get rung up pretty quick. I have worked in retail and I do realize that working there can probably be a bit stressful considering how busy they get and how messy the store gets. Ill elaborate on that next. The only major downfall is the place is a wreck. People tear through there and just tear things up! If are going shopping there be prepared to start digging. The deals you find are worth it though. I spent about $120 last night and I walked out with a shirt, a dress, shoes, a clutch (Guess brand), and a purse (Guess brand). Don't know too many places where you can get all that for that price. This is a large store with a lot of good stuff and I highly recommend giving it a try. read more

I actually like this ROSS. I took my mom here and she loved it because there were a lot of nice, decent looking clothes to choose from. A lot better than other ROSS' that we go to. Prices are the same as others which is great. I bought a pair of FUBU jeans for my nephew, normal price is 49.99 and I got them for 9.99 which is pretty bad ass. The first time i went into this store was a few months ago and i was shocked to see how clean and easy to shop this location was.The line was a bit long but the cashiers were very friendly , the two male supervisors brennan and ken were so polite and a giant change from the dirty grumpy employees youd expect to find at a ross , and the store manager Justin was very friendly and even helped me pick out a pair of gucci sun glasses that i snagged at a bargain for 60 dollars!At that point i wouldve recomended this location over any other ross and the TJ MAXX in town . Now onto the reality check , i went back into this store with a couple friends a few days ago because i was hoping to find some shoes and a new pair of sun glasses.To my disappointment from the moment I walked in i felt like i was in a disgusting mexican flea market .THe secuirty guard just stared at us and didnt even bother to say hello , the store was a complete mess , and the employees didnt seem to even be working .If i had been alone i would have just left but i was with friends so i decided to tough it out and hopefully id find what i came in for .I found a sexy red dress and some heels so i took them to the fittingroom , just to be harassed by the old hag who was the fitting room attendant.I didnt realize shoes couldnt be taken into the fittingroom but she sure let me know by following me into my stall and ripping them out of my hands!When i asked to speak to the store manager she told me the store manager was busy and could not be bothered with my "little" complaint.I got passed around thropugh 4 different employees all of which had no clue who was in charge , or who the manager available was.Amazing customer service right ? I finaly spoke with a very sweet young lady who told me that evidently the great male managers id spoken with before had ALL left for better job offers , but she would be happy to get her store manager penny to handle my complaint.This explained why the store had gone from such a great suprise into a disgusting hell hole that id expect from ross , to be honest id rather shop at the good will then go back into this place.And if by chance their store manager ever reads this , if this is how you run a business no wonder the only 3 employees who seem to have any sense of customer service , made the decision to quit!
